So Flouze... Hopefully things are still cool between us even though I privately commented to you about your overall negativity and cynicism (yes folks, it was me, mwa ha ha). Glad to see you're not dwelling on it at all.

Once again, great work putting this out. I can't fathom the time it would take to put it all together.

That being said, there is one comment that I think really strikes a personal nerve with me. And no, it isn't about any of my characters so I am not taking it personally. It is something that rubs me the wrong way though every time I see and hear it.

"So we’ll all keep an eye out for the next edition of SNR that is expected to come out next fall… Probably November, and December for hour two. We’ll all be looking forward to that card."

There have been a lot of jabs and poking fun at UWF's lateness... I am curious though, if we were to ask Mike, how many people offer to help out? How many people get their stuff in on time before deadlines? How many people offer to write a match to help get the show out? Even write matches that don't involve their characters whatsoever? Just something to help make progress? What is that expression... If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

If I were a fedhead, I have to wonder how motivating it would be to hear that all the time?

The way I look at it, Mike doesn't owe us a damn thing and we've all been very fortunate and very lucky to have had UWF going since 1996. There is a reason why we all handle here. Yes, it can be slow, but it has never closed up shop. That is something to be proud of. That is why I don't complain about the length of time it takes to get a card out... It is a personal pet peeve of mine to see so much negativity on this board, and I know I am not alone on that.

But hey, it is just a joke all in good fun. I shouldn't read so much into it... I will enjoy passively aggressively finding out how I am wrong about this.

I know for this last card, I dragged my heels getting stuff in so that's its own problem as well (well, not me specifically, but still...).

I offer to write matches all the time and Mike laughs at me.

The other night I offered to write an episode of Countdown and Mike noncommittally shrugged me off the way he usually does when I offer to help. Also offered to write a TNT, but that's Sonby territory. Anyway, I've learned offering or suggesting is often not enough with Beeby. You have to force him to let you write stuff, most usually via some form of blackmail.

He did let me write a match once, but I think he gave up on me when he saw how inept I am at writing summaries. But who knows, maybe I'll be given the chance to help out again one of these days.

The reason I (and others) dip into the "UWF has long delays" tank is because it's an enduring running gag (and therefore easy). If delays were such a huge issue, there would only be a couple of handlers left, but the fact there's always a healthy base of handlers in UWF speaks eloquently to the fact people are only teasing Mike about the delays instead of taking issues with 'em.
Besides, Beeby has some of the toughest skin around.

And if he wrote an email telling me to ease up on the tardiness jokes, I'd probably end up ignoring him to start the next podcast with a five minute bit on UWF's chronic lateness.

I kid around... but you didn't have to come out and say you're the guy who lodged a formal complaint about my incessant negativity. The bit wasn't aimed at you, I just need to remind peeps every once in a while that I'm not hating on them or anything. And yeah, I could use the same moment to tease you a little, but it's all in good fun.
Don't take my deadpan delivery too seriously. ;)

Making a 20 minute podcast isn't especially long or difficult. It would be if I tried to make a quality product, I imagine... but it's pretty clear I'm pretty clueless every time I ramble on.
As such, anyone who wants to make a sunshine-filled podcast can make one with a fair amount of ease, these days.

I think this is the crux of the issue here. Thick skin or not, an easy gag (and VERY overplayed) or not, it is really starting to come across as venomous and disrespectful. I won't speak for Steve but my opinion on the matter isn't just based on the podcast. I've had enough conversations with you where I've heard you go off on the delays (among other things) and saying its just your deadpan delivery doesn't explain it.

I don't believe its the treatment Mike needs or deserves.
Everything I learned about soccer, I learned from Dro.

You are to refer to Katie as "The Duchess of Der Basterdmusen" as of June 2014. She'll get angry if you don't. You've been warned.

To be fair, the issue goes way beyond this podcast. I said to myself the next time I see it, I am going to bring it up because it has been bothering me for a long while and so it just so happened to be here.

I agree with what Kyle said regarding it coming off as venomous and disrespectful. I think that is why it bothers me so. And I know for a fact that despite the"thick skin" that you depend on, it does indeed bother Mike. As I said before, I am not alone on this.

From previously speaking with Mike, one thing I think that might go a long way would be the timing of the offers of help. It's one thing to offer to write a match after a show is already a month late, but a whole other thing to offer the moment the update gets put out. Or the act of getting your stuff in on time. I imagine it is hard to build momentum to put out a show when you're waiting on segments that are past due.

The thing is, when you rebuff help, it gives one the impression, you don't need help.

Eventually, turned down enough times, people that asked before are just going to stop asking altogether.

Okay, weighing in a little here.

Ultimately the big issue here isn't as much help with writing as it is a complete atmosphere of "it'll get done when it gets done" as far as things being turned in, combined with the running gag of "UWF's never on time". There seems to be a complete disassociation from one to the other, time issues seem to just get lumped into how long writing the show takes.

Quite honestly, the actual amount of time spent writing isn't a huge amount. It's the reason why I switched from fully written matches to the hybrid format, the amount of match writing time goes down but the quality of each match usually doesn't suffer. Your mileage may vary, of course.

The bulk of delays are usually centered around waiting on pieces promised but that don't show up until well after deadlines. In fact, there's usually one or two important pieces per show that aren't even started until after the deadline is up, or within hours of being up.

Now when it comes to offers to write, yes I generally turn them down. Because by the time they're offered we're already mired in delays, most of the time I'm still waiting on in-rings or flashes to show up and the absolute last thing I want to do is be waiting on something else to arrive, if we're already a week or more late I would much prefer it be in my own hands than anyone else's. TNT is a different animal altogether. Mike Sonby writes the show, it was his idea to start it up so while the offer to write it is nice, I don't feel comfortable handing it over to anyone unless he's looking for a break (which is why Tara Marshall hosted it once or twice last year).

Now as far as my skin being thick or not, as a rule I ignore most of the jabs as I do know they're not really meant in a harmful way. But when you keep going on each and every update about "sorry, we're going to get better with the shows, no more delays" after a show takes a month to get out, followed by a deadline that 85% of the roster misses despite having weeks to a month break and in a lot of cases, very little excuse to miss deadline... well it's all just a little uninspiring.
