Nenshou thinks that if you must have a face champion, the easiest thing to do would be to cheer for him. |

I'm shocked that Nenshou had that opinion and not Percy Childes. Independent thought is the first step towards facedom! |

And it wouldn't be the first time AWA had a main event for the title between two characters of the same handler, either. |

Don just showed me his Marley RP. If this thing is being judged on RPs... I think my vote just changed. It's that good. |

I voted for Sultan Azam Sharif simply because the idea of the Sultan cashing his any title shot to challenge the holder of the National title very intriguing. More intriguing even than Dave Cooper or Craven winning the tournament. |

This is actually a great field. Sweet Daddy and Jezz are the only ones you can rule out totally. (Cue Petrow protest about Jezz). Travis Lynch: The title would help him more than anyone. Rob is willing to put the work in, and I'd like to see him more integrated with the pack of handlers that have most of the airtime in AWA. William Craven: Moze desperately wants Craven to win a World Title, I think. And it would certainly put his "revolution" angle in the forefront. Jerby Jezz: HA HA no. But getting this far and having a match on the show really helps legitimize The Rave. To succeed as a comedy character in a 'serious' fed, you have to be able to get it done in the ring. the thing is... if a character can be established as a threat in the ring, they CAN be a comedy character and still function. So a good showing would help them both a ton. Stevie Scott: The man with the most AWA success, and of this list, one of two who could be a strong top-shelf face anchor for the fed. (Travis can become that in time, but he still needs to improve... become less Kerry and more Travis, if that makes sense) James Monosso: I would love it if he made the finals or such, considering his hard path. If he wins, it changes his story completely. This may be a good thing, if he needs to be freshened in the eyes of the audience. Wallie mentioned that he was unimpressed with Monosso; James has been saying the same things for a while now, perhaps he needs a new facet. Gunnar Gaines: A character I had not seen before this, but heard about every year during HoF nomination period. He has put a realistic story there, kind of showing how he has focused on family post-retirement. There are a couple of ways his story could unfold, which makes it exciting to watch. Nenshou: It seems that a lot of people haven't figured Nenshou out yet, which is funny to me because percy has put the truth out there a time or two. Anyway, the closer he gets to his goals, the more we'll learn. Since he's basically the Great Muta in e-w form, he has to get over via his manager and via wrestling, which is very hard to do in this medium which emphasizes promos. As a character, he needs in-ring success to be as compelling as he can be, I think. He also touches on the widely-held sentiment that Muta should have been pushed even more in the NWA during his famous run; maybe now we'll get to see how that might have gone. Rick Marley: The other candidate for a face that could anchor the fed. He anchored PVW as a heel during some of their best times. I would love him to get a run... Don's best stuff measures against anyone, and he's grown tremendously over the years. November: I didn't see him much in his first run. If he wins here, he'll end up reinventing himself to some extent, because a lot of what I have read ties directly to his past career... which won't be relevant to the World Title if he wins it. But I'm pretty confident that Wallie wouldn't have much trouble doing that. Pure X: Similar to Nenshou, Pure X needs in-ring success to thrive as a character, because he is an "I don't care for talking, I care for wrestling" kind of character. This can absolutely work as a champion figure, as Bret Hart proved. Dave Cooper: The end of the world as we know it. Because his victory would be a doomsday scenario for AWA, it makes sense for him to go far. And if he were to win, that could lead into any number of fascinating things. Supreme Wright: See Pure X, but Wright is a bit better on the mic. His stuff against Matthews was the best I had seen from Wright, who gets boring quickly if he doesn't have an angle hook or target for his RPs. This is not generally a problem for a champion, who always has challengers to address. MAMMOTH Maximus: Vader was awesome as a dominant champion, and MAMMOTH is a VERY well done Vader homage. He could absolutely be used the same way. Great darkhorse candidate if we're going with a heel champion. Blackwater Bart: Another famed character of the past who I never saw. His stuff is outstanding, but I have not seen him outside of his basic "I make threats and talk about how badass I am and drop references to 1998" mode. I'd like to see what he does when he's personally invested, or is in any different kind of position. Is he a flexible character? It would be fascinating (from the perspective of someone who doesn't know him) to find out. Sweet Daddy Williams: The king of the staff characters. Keeping him strong is good, because he's great at coming "off the bench" to keep a heel hot. But a staff character can't win the World Ti... oh, Kolya Sudakov said hi. *ahem* ...again. :-) Unlike Kolya, Sweet Daddy doesn't make sense as champion. Sultan Azam Sharif: The story of using the Steal The Spotlight match to force a match with Langseth came about because my original idea for it was shot down. If Sharif wins, you have an instant PPV main event angle that would be hot. |

Since Jeremy asked for my input...did anybody consider Stevie Scott to be championship material before he became a Nature Boy homage? |

The Stevie Scott character pre-transformation into Flair was one that I always thought could be a top-level heel in any fed, even if he was a bit goofy. A wisecracking bitch heel being champion wasn't exactly something unheard of in e-w (EVG for instance). Now, whether he could've been that sort of champion in AWA, I dunno. I'll admit my knowledge of AWA before I joined is a bit limited, so I'm not exactly sure how he fit in that environment during that time. |

Well, unlike Jeremy, I believe in Chris Blue. He wrote the greatest Petrow match of all-time (the match with Brody Thunder at J*STAR) despite having zero experience with the character, and he recently accomplished what I considered to be impossible by orchestrating a better show than Ring Wars III. So I also believe in his ability to make Jerbauld Jezz a credible World Champion. And I know that, if he decided to do so, it would not be because of some alleged brownnosing on my part, but because he believes it to be what is best for the AWA...nee, what is best for e-wrestling as a whole. |

If it came down to it...I'd rather The Rave hold onto the world title with the Freebird rule in effect than have any individual Rave member hold it. |
