Right after writing the Rumble, I did a podcast to explain why I made some of the decisions I did. I thought it might be a different thing, rather than reviewing someone else's work, instead to try and talk about what went into writing a match.

I really don't know if it ended up with any insight. But if anyone wants to hear it, I have it in a Dropbox folder. PM me with the email address you have associated with your Dropbox account. (Dropbox is a file-sharing site with a downloadable upload/download component; it is used to simulate a shared folder between a specified group of people). I need to work on settings, as the file is 100 MB and certainly doesn't need to be so large. Next time I'll pick a more reasonable bitrate!

It's an hour fourty-five, because I never met a tangent I didn't like.

Just finished listening to Jeremy's dulcet tones. Excellent podcast, and really fascinating to hear the ideas behind writing up that epic match.

Apparently, every match writer should podcast about his/her match, because they sure know what they're talking about!

- When we chatted, I probably did sound dubious about guest spots. But that was only because, in my mind, I was imagining the scenario of getting a pre-2008 guy I know nothing about... and not being able to care because I don't know the character.
With Annis, that's not an issue at all, and I did hear just enough about Langseth through the boards (and Terry) to have a decent enough idea of who he is. Also, cow tossing.
The other reason is that I ideally wanted to see some tag guys in the rumble. Specifically, I wanted Vermeer to be in it. I didn't want to see some random guest steal Randall Vermeer's rightful spot, haha!
That said, the legends were really well used, not just there for cheap pops but to make meaningful contributions. So it's all for the best.

- Also, no, I didn't expect Fontana would get the "Bret Hart spot", though ironically his strats for that rumble were mostly inspired by Hart's stint in the 1994 rumble, where he limps to the ring due to his earlier match.

The strats asked to put over his tenacity only to try and avoid an elimination that directly contradicted the whole everlasting shtick. At the time, the plan was to have Weaver eliminate Fontana in the rumble to build on sour grapes from earlier in the night where Perry would have stolen a win. Didn't matter if Fontana's leg died since he wouldn't be needed post-rumble. But then, Brian and Rob asked for a change of plans. So we had to go back and change a lot of stuff, from matches to plans being made for the next cycle, etc.
So yeah, if it looks weird that the rumble reports a couple of times that Fontana beat Weaver instead of the opposite, that's because at the time, Perry was supposed to win that match and Weaver would get revenge post-match and in the rumble. Jer did not flub anything, he wrote that based on the info he had.

I thought the match turned out awesomely. Rumbles have always been my favourite, and I had lots of fun reading this one. I thought certain guys like say Supreme Wright didn't have enough ring time, and I admit I had certainly not expected to find Hudson in the "Bret Hart" push slot... I thought that would go to Seiger, Dawson... or at the very least Uncle Frank (when I got the disappointing news Uncle Frank wasn't winning).

Sure, I admit I didn't like the Mannifred Lester part as much but... it was handled as well as it could be.

I initially wanted to be the guy to write the rumble - which is why I had planned my things out with the idea of making sure Fontana wouldn't win, just so I could write it - but then you stole the match away from me (even though Bell had agreed to let me write the rumble)... and easily did a better job than I ever would have in every aspect imaginable.
Unless you were hoping for a different winner. That's what I would have provided, haha! ;)

But yeah, reading the match and listening to the podcast and everything you gotta plot out and orchestrate... I'm thinking I would not have possessed the ability to pull it off.

Also, cow tossing.

Apparently the only thing that I ever did in the 90's that has stood the test of time.

Listening to the Rumblecast now and I have to say I really enjoy hearing Jer's logic in writing the match.

Great comparison of Lester to Golddust and yes give Lester the chance cause so far Tom was been nothing but awesome to work with. While Jer has been pushing for Lester in the Hall of Fame this is actually a debut that Brian has been working on for two years I think. A bit funny how each time Tom was ready to come we went on a hiatus.

I still have no idea how I completely screwed up the number of guys in rumble but oh well Jer still wrote an amazing match.

I do wish that we had all the matches done before Jer was working on the match cause it would have been easier to tell him the effects of all the other matches on the characters but if we waited the PPV would have taken longer than then it actually did to come out.

An interesting listen...although there's a few things I probably disagree with in regards to who got more shine than others. Also...I'm not sure how much of a chance I'd give a character with someone unwilling to change or compromise. lol

I liked this, though...this, along with Blue's reviews about AWA supercards gives a tremendous insight to how the booking process works in the e-underbelly.

Indeed, after listening I have nothing but admiration for the amount of effort and thought Jer put into this.

Where's the Jue-cy Cast?
