I dunno, guys...I write about bouncy Japanese girls with mental issues when I'm feeling hateful and bitter at the world. Then again, they're probably why I'm hateful and bitter in the first place.

---> Gibson Hayes
===>  Short and to the point.  Nice to see Gibson showing real anger to losing the title. Where Gibson and HOPE go from here is one of the more interesting storylines of the cycle.

---> Mannifred Lester
===>  I don't know.  The other 'monster' characters in PVW operate on a certain level of reality.  Nevermind, Uncle Frank, Rob Cole, Christopher Black, even William Craven- you assume all of the characters live in the same Universe.

Lester's different.  He's acting like he's from a different reality altogether- in a fed full of John Wayne Gacys and Ted Bundys, he's Freddy Krueger.

Lester is very much a "Love it or Hate it" character- and right now, I'm leaning in the latter category.  I don't think his promos work in the PVW universe.  I can see the appeal- he's a good writer- and I can see how he got as big of a name as he was.  But right now, I don't see him fitting in PVW.

---> Rob Cole
===>  Now here's a type of crazy that I can handle :)

Seriously- the idea of Cole losing it is a good one.  While most of the monster characters are simmering, he's exploding.  It works.

---> Morgan Shaw
===>  PVW hasn't had a Rick "The Model" Martel type heel since I've been in the fed.  He's got the whole niche to himself, and the promo is pretty good.  I think he'll be making an impact here.

---> Marco Clah
===>  Standard "Initial face rookie" promo.  All right, but it'd help to add a better description of Clah.  I've got no idea if he's an American Indian version of Billy Kidman or of Vader.

---> The Platinum Club
===>  Damn- the voices of Vermeer and Kruger are perfect.  Vermeer's always been a great heel, but Kruger's showing seething anger that adds a great contrast.

---> Phoenix
===>  Question:  If we can see Phoenix's face without his mask, what does he look like?

It's a well-written flash.  But Phoenix is both saying that Freeman doesn't matter, while at the same time calling him a 'cancer'.  It's a contradiction that sounds false.

---> Adrian Freeman
===>  Short and to the point.  Puts over the TV title and Wright.  Really looking forward to seeing what Freeman does this cycle.

---> Will Geddings
===>  I like the 'screw everything- I want the title' attitude.  It fits a veteran coming back.
I didn't like the blowing off of Quartermann.  Not only with his comments, but he doesn't show any knowledge of who KQ is. The problem with saying "My opponent is beneath me." the first time they face each other is that it buries the opponent unless one of two things happens:
- The opponent (Quartermann) wins, setting up a feud between the two
- The opponent (Quartermann) is leaving the fed and this is elevating the person
Otherwise, it's a "Kick the puppy" moment that doesn't fit.

Now, Geddings' handler has since said this was intentional, so I'm guessing KQ wins to kick off the next part of the storyline. I should take a 'wait and see' attitude- but I am expecting some sort of fallout from the promo.

---> Kevin Quartermann
===>  Excellent flash- really puts over the Nevermind/KQ feud.  I'm really starting to get into the character.

---> Talion
===>   Not a bad flash- but with Talion, I'm waiting for the next step.  Lester/Talion may help bring out the best in both.

---> Herscher von Donkerhardt
===>   Again with the "You are nobody" putdown,  At least HvD shows that he knows something about Talion, so it comes across more like 'arrogant heel' than 'trying to bury the opponent'.

---> Jason Cruise
===>  Not a fan of the unbleeped swearing.  That being said, he does a good job explaining his background and why he's wrestling.  Looking forward to the next step.

---> Gold Rush
===>  Like Platinum Club, the two personalities on the team are so different that you could hide the names and someone could pick out who was speaking. Bonus points for invoking Rule 34.

---> Legacy
===> Welcome back the Von Brauns! For all the "Legacy/Lineage" jokes, they are reminding me a lot like Gold Rush- one more calmer, veteran playing straight person to the wilder one. In fact, Legacy's big concern might be that they are too much like Gold Rush, and will need to do something to stand out as separate from them.

---> The Berserkers
===> Good face promo, hitting all the right notes. But a team like the Berserkers work better when they're really angry and want to pound heads. I keep picturing them in a Falls-Count-Anywhere match where they and another team are destroying merchandising stands looking for ways to win (think 1994 Nasty Boys). Now I'm sorry we didn't try that for the Shattered Dreams tag title match.

---> Senor Cloak Dos
===> All the 'Cousin' talk made me think it was another SCD/Fontana flash. Good flash, and I'm curious where Cloak Dos is going this cycle.

And another question- SCD doesn't drink. Might not be anything but color, but maybe there's a background that can be exploited later on...

---> Mike Gionet
===> OK- since I'm feuding with Gionet in Fighting Spirit, am I allowed to take potshots at him here? :)

Mike's big problem here is that, for all of his talk about being different than his father, it _felt_ like a Larry Gionet flash. I think he needs to do something different in his flashes (Bring in a sidekick? Talk to the cameraperson? Change locations to something completely unexpected) so that people stop thinking of him as Gionet with a different first name.

---> Sinister
===> Minor quibble- I would have marked the flashbacks with some sort of text indicator to show they were flashbacks.

But that's minor. I really, really liked this flash. Sinister's been a face- and a target- for a long time, and there's been plenty of tension building up. It's a slow build to something (most likely a heel turn)- but when it comes, the groundwork will have completely built. Sin showed his frustration without hardly saying a word.

---> Chris Hartt
===> Ouch. Brutal verbal beatdown by his nephew. Hartt/Black is a great feud, and I'm glad it's continuing for another cycle.

---> Nevermind & Danny Daniels
===> I think Alan does a better job building up the scene of a flash than anyone else in PVW. Everything before Danny speaks was written by him, and he nailed it. Nevermind and Daniels don't have a real background together, and are about as different as two characters could be, but I think this worked well.

---> Derek Weaver
===> No more half-measures, Derek? :) Now that Derek is committed to HOPE, I'm wondering if (when) he and Gibson will have a problem deciding who's in charge...

---> Uncle Frank
===> You know, it's boring to keep saying "Uncle Frank's work is great." But it is. Steinar balances a great job of being funny while still being menacing. The Johnstone reaction was perfect- realizing when he was hitting on Frank's trigger and quickly recanting.

---> Heath Dawson
===> Dawson's done a good job establishing himself- and I really enjoyed the smack talk about Langseth (hey, money on Joe Reed is usually a sure thing!). Dawson's made enough noise that he's either going to target someone or be the target of someone. Maybe HD vs. HvD?

---> Erich Seiger
===> Not unlike Dawson- a monster face who did well in the Rumble, probably enough to make himself a target. Dallas is still there, but Seiger is taking over the promo work.

---> Max Weinrib & Sal Mubarak - PVW Tag Team Champions
===> Hard to critique your own flashes.

---> Supreme Wright - PVW Television Champion
===> Of all the titles, the TV title is one most likely to be the target for several challengers, so you need the champion to be ready to take on a variety of opponents. Wright's attitude fits this well, and he's showing relief that he finally managed to overcome Freeman and annoyance about dealing with Chance. Good flash- even without the bouncy Japanese girls.

---> Christopher Black - PVW American Champion
===> Slightly biased here, but I liked it. Black manages to be the champion but still be obsessed over something (in this case, Hartt).

---> Johnny Detson - PVW World Heavyweight Champion
===> A bookend to the first flash- also short, but revels in the glory of finally winning the big one. I wouldn't like this every flash, but given the circumstances, it's outstanding.

You guys should come to Dragon*Con one of these years, they have some nice sharp pointy things. My home defense weapon is a batarang! I could shave with that thing.

Ok guys I normally never do this, but I am actually going to respond to the comments and criticism of this debut RP of my new character but simply explaining my personal mindset regarding the RP. I have had a little bit of time to kind of mold how I wanted Mike Gionet to be portrayed by using him in other places. My aim is to kind of play a good-natured but inexperienced wrestler. Someone that with such inexperience dos still show vulnerability and has an internal battle with himself with self doubt and trying to be confident in what he can become.

Him coming into PVW, I felt going into it he was going to have to face undeserved preconceived notions of being like his father being his son So in that case I felt like I had to at least bring that up in the roleplay for a few sentences and then go on about Sinister. I don't quite agree with the RP being too similar with Larry's character although speaking with a cameraman or sidekick might not be a bad idea either. So I will give that some thought as I move forward. It is a work in progress after all.

Mike

It takes a while to find a wrestler's voice.

It also takes a while to find a wrestler's voice in a new federation.

The key phrase is "work in progress." I thought it was a fine promo (I really should do a flash packet review sometime), and as Gionet feels his way around PVW, future promos should show it.

Hell, it took me a few months to finally find Seiger's voice.
