AWA ACCESS
------
Earlier today, the AWA announced the latest batch of competitors to be added to the growing field of sixty-four superstars who will be competing in the tournament to crown the first AWA World Heavyweight Champion.

From within the AWA's own locker room, we add the brute savage William Craven. The One Man Revolution continues to make waves in the AWA with every appearance but nothing could further his cause more than becoming the first AWA World Champion.

In addition, we learned that the AWA Championship Committee continues to be hard at work recruiting the very best in the world to compete in this tournament as they add two more names to the ever-growing list.

First, we add a young man who is the product of a proud tradition of wrestlers. He was trained by the legendary Holden Brothers - the kings of wrestling in Quebec and eastern Canada - with the goal of becoming the greatest wrestler in the world. He clings to his lineage - an overlooked lineage some might say - and plans to expose the entire world to it when he enters the tournament with plans to become the true champion of the world.

Alexander Cote is the 37th man to join the field of sixty-four.

Here's what he had to say about the tournament -

[Camera fades to show a young man standing in the locker room of a gym. This young mam has blonde hair and blue eyes, he sports a buzzed short hair style and a full beard. He’s not a body builder but he is thick and athletic looking, wearing a white t-shirt with 'Holden Ecole' de Catch' written in dark red lettering. He also is wearing a pair of baggy red athletic shorts and a pair of sneakers that are also red and white. He takes a moment before he starts to speak gathering his thoughts]

AC: Honour and tradition. . . . these things are very important to the men in charge of the AWA, they wear their heritage on their sleeve. and so do I

[The young man holds his arm up exposing a small Fleur-de-lis tattooed on his inner right forearm]

AC: Every time I step in the ring I am representing not just myself, but the men who trained me, and everything they have done in this business. It is a heavy burden to bear sometimes, but I accept because I respect what they have done, and I respect what the men who built the AWA have done. Even the ones who do not deserve respect.

[the young man thoughtfully strokes his beard ass he decides the best way to finish his thoughts]

AC: This summer I am coming into the AWA to do two things 1: Win the World Heavyweight Championship and 2: Show the world the true beauty of professional wrestling. And when I do these two things, I won't cheat or use short cuts, no, I will remember the heritage and tradition I mentioned at the beginning, and I will live up to and exceed it. My name is Alexander Cote', my nickname is the Canadian Pitbull, and soon everyone will know why I am the best wrestler in the world.

[Alexander picks up a towel and makes his way towards the workout area as the screen fades to black.]

**

Cote's héritage and background earns him a slot in the tournament but some of our competitors are sporting much bigger resumes such as the next man to announce for the tournament.

He is a former champion in St. Louis... in the Great Lakes... and in Tampa.

His name is instantly recognizable amongst longtime fans of the sport.

It has been many years since he has appeared in a professional ring but he's found the lure of AWA World Championship gold as too appealing to resist fighting for.

Take a look at the thirty-eighth man to join the tournament field...

**

[Madison J. Valentine leans, sunlit, against the curved black bar in a Club lounge at LAX, one eye on the CNN markets ticker as he taps expressionlessly on his phone. The bartender sets a complimentary seltzer water at his elbow and Valentine thanks him, pocketing the phone inside the breast of his jacket. His tailor has certainly done good work: his navy blue suit is cut finely enough to show that he is still every bit as muscular as when he was in his prime. As he looks into the camera, though, there are indications of a man now approaching his fortieth birthday: undyed, steely highlights at his temples, crow's feet breaches in the tan around his eyes. From the middle of his cultured beard, he smiles.]

VALENTINE: To think that I used to do this three hundred days of the year.

Airline connections, rental cars. Going from one nasty little dump of a town to the next.

[The former RCW, GLCW and UWF star picks up his drink, ice chinking in the glass.]

VALENTINE: You know how they say you only miss something when you don't have it any more?

Yeah... not in this case.

[He shakes his head, sips, and puts the glass back down.]

VALENTINE: I mean, sure, wrestling might have given me things to be thankful for -- but it's not as if I owe it anything. There are guys I fought for World titles, back in the day, who have to make their living now cleaning pools, or installing air conditioning…

But I was always smarter than them. I made better choices; I got out at the right time. That's how you end up with the life I have now, flying first class to your comeback show…

[He pats the boarding pass inside his breast pocket, just checking it's still there.]

VALENTINE: So if you've got it so good, you might ask, then why come back at all?

Well, isn't that what us retired guys do? Un-retire?

[He allows himself a small chuckle, before smoothing his hair seriously back into place.]

VALENTINE: Hey, in this economy, I'm sure there'll be plenty of guys with bills to pay, looking to cash in one more time on whatever legacy they've got left. Good luck to them.

For some of us, though, this career isn't the only thing we've ever been successful at.

[He stands up straighter now.]

VALENTINE: And that's why I'm coming back.

Because success breeds success. In wrestling, as in everything else in life, success is achieved by seeing the opportunities, assessing the risks, and making the right decisions.

It sounds simple -- it may be that simple. But it's amazing how difficult people find it. Especially people who, like I said, have only ever known success by doing the same thing. Especially people who need so badly to do well at this, they can't even think straight…

[Pause. Somewhere outside, a jet engine screams.]

VALENTINE: For me, on the other hand, success is a science I've been studying for years. Since back when I was winning titles from some of the biggest names in the history of this sport, to now, as a businessman still making money in these dark, desperate times of ours.

Madison J. Valentine has learned how to make success look easy.

So to all of you moths, drawn back to the flame of this AWA tournament, I'll just say…

[He slows down and grabs his drink again.]

VALENTINE: … watch and learn.

Watch and learn, take a card, maybe sign up for one of my seminars. Because being the World Champion might end tomorrow, but living like a World Champion can go on forever.

[He raises his glass and takes another drink.]

VALENTINE: Just let a professional show you how.

[Fade to black.]

Two more added!

The first addition to the field of sixty-four is a man who is perhaps best known as the co-founder of one of the most infamous factions in the history of our great sport - the Pride - but he is also a former UWF World Champion to boot.

Take a look...

[We open to a middle aged man standing on a spacious lawn in front of a tidy looking white Neocolonial home with green shutters and a massive duo of columns holding up an open pediment, all of which draw attention to the front door. The man, casually dressed in blue jeans and a light blue collared gold shirt, leans one arm onto the top of his white picket fence and smiles to the camera positioned just on the other side of the fence. For anyone who was a fan of the late '90s wrestling boom, particularly of a major promotion centered up north in Canada, the man is instantly identifiable as Brett Greene.]

BG: Twenty days.

[Greene swings his free arm out wide, inviting all the viewers to look over the grounds of his property.]

BG: I had a fantastic career in this rasslin' game. It's given more fame, more success, more pride and more money than I'd've ever dreamed when I started trainin' over 2 decades ago. It's given me a life and a home in the best neighbourhood in my hometown, Baton Rouge. It's given me the way to support a wife and two daughters, a family that'll make a man burst with pride and love every dang day. By any reckonin', I'm a success.

But I only held a world championship, the UWF World Title, for twenty days.

[Brett runs a large hand through what little remains of his thinning, sandy blonde hair.]

BG: Now, y'all will hear from lots of boys in this tournament who've never won a World Championship before about how that's the dream... how every man in this business dreams of the day they'll win that big gold belt, hold it high, and hear themselves announced as the undisputed best in the world.

Only thing is, that's a damn lie.

[Brett allows himself a short pause, letting the surprising impact of that statement breath for a moment. He absently mindedly swats at a buzzing mosquito before continuing.]

BG: You see, men like us, men ambitious enough to get into the rasslin' game, we don't dream small. We don't dream of the winnin' the strap. We dream of holdin' it. We dream of goin' into every town on the loop and bein' treated like the top dog. We dream of every man we meet wantin' to be us, and every woman wantin' to be with us. We dream of walkin' into every arena with a chip on our shoulder and a belt around our waist, just darin' anyone to knock one or t'other off.

And I only got to do that for twenty days. Which is why I'm here. Which is why I wanna take one last chance at a World Championship. Which is why I called up the AWA, called the Championship Committee, and asked if they had one spot left for a broken-ass old vet.

[Here, Brett breaks into a wide grin as he gets ready to hit his big finish.]

BG: 'Cause the way I figure it? I'm overdue for that twenty-first day.

[We get a slight zoom in to focus on Greene's smiling face before we cut away.]

***

And the other competitor to be announced tonight adds international flair as another
experienced journeyman has thrown his hat into the ring. He has been an international star for almost fifteen years and has wrestled all over the world. A former Master of the Ring whose name is synonymous with ruthless brawling and a never-sated hunger for success. We have some words from "Violent" Victor Frost.

[A moment of static before we cut to a naked light bulb swinging from a stark, white ceiling. A single moth swirls around it in chaotic circles.]

VF: Moths and flames.

[The camera pans downwards to reveal "Violent" Victor, leaning against the concrete wall. The German wrestler, standing six foot four, wears a black suit that doesn't manage to hide his massive upper body. A red shirt, black tie and olive crocodile leather loafers. His black hair is cut very short which make his widow's peak painfully obvious.

Victor takes a drag off his cigarette before he drops it to the ground.]

VF: It is a fitting metaphor, ja? AWA calls and, just like these winged pests, wrestlers from all over the world come running.

And just like moths, they rush blindly into their doom.

[A sneer rushes across Frost's harsh features.]

VF: Not me, though, not "Violent" Victor Frost, the German Machine, the leader of the Black Mass Movement.

[He jabs a thumb at his chest.]

VF: I am no has-been entering for one last hurrah, no cannon fodder added to fill up some brackets. What I am is pure ... championship ... material.

Whichever victims will be put in my way ... they will _experience_ the violence and after all is said and done ... after the smoke has cleared and all the little moths have been burned to crisps ... I shall be the World Champion and the man to drag AWA into a new golden era of glory.

[The camera zooms in as he whispers the last few words.]

VF: Praise the Violence ... praise me.

[Cut back to static.]

TOURNAMENT NEWS & NOTES
---

*** The AWA confirmed reports that Tiger Paw Pro has pulled their representative - Yoshinari Taguchi - from the World Title tournament due to a dispute with AWA officials over a recent appearance in a rival Japanese promoter by the person claiming to be the AWA National Champion. Officials promised "another Japanese competitor" to replace him but were unable to name the replacement at this time.

*** Citing a desire to reveal the final ten tournament entries at Memorial Day Mayhem, the AWA picked up the pace in the announcement of competitors in the field of sixty-four this weekend with the revelation that AWA partner promotion, SouthWest Lucha Libre - have opted to send SWLL founder El Corazon Negro and current Mexican Heavyweight Champion Hector Morales Jr. to compete for the AWA World Title.

*** The Championship Committee also revealed that another first round tournament match will take place at Memorial Day Mayhem between two competitors who have both been petitioning the Committee to be added to the field. Who are they? We'll find out at showtime!

With only fourteen spots remaining, we expect the AWA to announce four more later today to meet their goal of being able to reveal the final ten during the Memorial Day Mayhem broadcast!
