I have to admit that I'm a fan of the 64 guy tourney and have been since the early discussions about this tournament that took place in e-mail. My promoter side likes the idea of being all, "The biggest tournament of all time for the biggest prize of all time!" and then going out and getting those most random one-offs and cameos to fill out the bracket. Like a random 2012 Juvenil Infierno vs Skywalker Jones in the first round or Sebastian Jericho vs Luke Steele in the feud the Double Eye didn't want you to see. Bringing in 4M and Maniac Jack to have some "legendary" off-camera bloody brawl... with a Mr. Honeydew run-in to complete the jobber trifecta.

There are obvious problems with it - could be too long, too many "nobodies" get in and probably go right out, there'd certainly be no Stampede Cup this year, not sure exactly what the Rumble does either.

Rumble winner could get a bye to the finals? Winner of tourney vs rumble winner for strap? Each fought through their own Private hell to get there.

That was one of the options I was considering, yeah. Seems to make a lot of sense but I think the tournament would have to START after the Rumble then because that'd be the first choice for people. Win the Rumble and go directly to the Finals. But if you failed to win the Rumble, you could still battle your way through a 64 man tourney to get there.

Starting it after the Memorial Day show is problematic though. That feels like a long way away and how do we maintain interest to that point. Plus, that puts us in a time crunch to run a 64 man tourney between the beginning of June and the beginning of September... which isn't impossible but might make things a little tight.

I like the idea in concept, I think, but it's the execution I struggle with.

Uhm ... split the difference? 32 participants? Seems doable for a fed AWA's size.
And it was at this moment that the entire world realized, in unison, that tandem bicycles were AWESOME~!

The IIWF already did a 32 man tournament for its vacant world title. I'm sure Blue doesn't want to be accused of ripping off the Double Eye!

And here I go being difficult (shocker)!

I LOVE the idea of a one night tournament...big 3 or 4 hour PPV with the eventual champ having had to wade through multiple matches over the course of the evening to really prove that he's the best in the business.

That would mean a field of 64 wouldn't be feasible...but 16 might...

We're not ripping off. We're doing homages.

Ignoring the fact that Terry hates everything for the moment, The Rumble winner goes straight to the finals, making the finals a 3 way dance (which I suspect Terry also hates)?

I only accept the kind of ECW 3 way dance where it's elimination style. So there.

Just give the new title to Juan Vasquez. That's the only plan that we'll all agree on.

I like the elimination style 3 way dance much more than the standard first fall wins version.
