NOTE: This is an old PWR app and will need updated... BY YOU! Character Name: Kenta Kitzukawa Height: 5'11 Weight: 260 pounds Hometown: Originally Osaka, Japan... now hails in Long Beach, CA Physical Description: Black hair cut real short. Smooth body, very little muscle mass Face/heel/?: Face Manager [if applicable]: Theme Music: Ring Entrance [please write in cut/paste form]: Wrestler Type [brawler/high flyer/etc]: Head dropper/striker What real-life wrestler is your character similar to in the ring?: Kawada's probably the best choice Finisher [normal finisher; the move your guy uses in the standard match to wrap things up]: Billion Dollar Bomb - Tiger Driver Signature Moves [no more than 5 please] Other moves [10-25] 1- Kicks... hard kicks 2- Kamengiri [leaping single foot head kick] 3- Powerbomb 4- German suplex 5- Stretch plum 6- Stiff forearms/elbows 7- Rolling elbow 8- Tiger suplex 9- Dragon suplex 10- Koppo kick Three Strengths: 1- Striking Hard, stiff, brutal fucking kicks, forearms, elbows, etc. These hurt, kids. Don't take them at home. 2- Conditioning Lack of muscle mass and bulk gives Kenta the ability to go sixty minutes plus if needed. 3- Experience Even though he's got relatively little ring time in the books, he does have the advantage of being Todd's prize student. This means he's been taught a lot... perhaps more than the others in M-Dojo thus far. Three Weaknesses: 1- Loner His position as Michaelson's top student has left him on the outside looking in with the others. They resent his preferred status and have isolated him as a result. Kenta's dedication to the ring... studying tapes, working out, has made him even more distant from the rest. 2- Pressure Kenta's seen as the "ace" of M-Dojo as he steps into PWR... and as Michaelson's top student, all eyes are on him to see if he can live up to the hype. 3- Speed Not really his game. Kenta prefers a methodical style. Profile(History of your character): Kenta was discovered by Michaelson while Todd was in Japan, scouting for potential J*STAR workers. Todd was captivated by the youngster's talent and when he opted to open M-Dojo instead, Kenta was one of the first students Todd signed up. After months of training with his mentor, Kenta prepares to step into PWR with the weight of the world and the expectations of the masses on his shoulders. |

Character Name: Michael Mason Jr. Height: 5’11 Weight: 220 Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia Physical Description: A well-toned, muscular but not overly so young man. His dark hair and eyes are non-descript. He’s what you might call a nice, young man. Face/heel/?: Superface Manager [if applicable]: none Theme Music: Ring Entrance [please write in cut/paste form]: Wrestler Type [brawler/high flyer/etc]: Technician with a few highflying moments What real-life wrestler is your character similar to in the ring?: Ricky Steamboat Finisher [normal finisher; the move your guy uses in the standard match to wrap things up]: Top rope cross body Signature Moves [no more than 5 please] Armtwist --> hook kick Flying forearm smash Catapult into buckles Double arm chickenwing Cradles, cradles, cradles Other moves [10-25] Armdrag Big knife edge chops Top rope sunset flip Gutwrench suplex Victory roll Slingshot plancha Cradle suplex Leg lariat Ten punch in the corner into a monkey flip Running dropkick off the apron Three Strengths: Athleticism - this kid is a born pure athlete. A former four-sport star in high school, Mason was drawn to the pro wrestling business and quickly proved to be a natural. Technical wrestling - he’s not the ground-based technician but he knows enough about wearing someone down and submissions to make him very good on the mat. Highflying - Mason won’t be constantly in the air but when he’s there, he hits hard and fast just like his father did. Three Weaknesses: High expectations - fans throughout the South remember “Showtime” Michael Mason so for Junior, there are a lot of eyes on him to see if he can live up to his father’s reputation Too trusting - Mason is the ultimate babyface. He’ll help anyone who needs it and he’ll trust anyone who offers it. This makes him vulnerable to... well, a lot of beatings. Enthusiasm - Mason wants to put on a show and win for the fans. This will often lead to him making some rookie mistakes. Profile(History of your character): Michael Mason Jr. is the son of “Showtime” Michael Mason, a top name throughout the Southern states in the 80s and 90s. Junior grew up in the business watching his father thrill the fans and from the first time he saw his father coming off the top rope to the roar of the crowd, he knew what he wanted to do with the rest of his life. Mason, all of 22 years old now, is looking to break into the AWA so that he can feel that same thrill and rush that his father did for years. Junior has been trained by his father for this moment. |

Character Name: “First String” Frankie Flash Height: 6’3 Weight: 260 Hometown: San Antonio, Texas Physical Description: Frankie Flash is the kid you hated in high school. Literally. He’s blond. He’s good-looking. He’s athletic. He’s got the women drooling over him. Oh, and he wears his letterman’s jacket everywhere. EVERYWHERE! Face/heel/?: Heel Manager [if applicable]: The Head Cheerleader, Ashley. Adorable yet slutty at the same time. And annoying. And a cheater. Bitch. We hate her too. Theme Music: Ring Entrance [please write in cut/paste form]: Wrestler Type [brawler/high flyer/etc]: Standard US style worker What real-life wrestler is your character similar to in the ring?: Ehhh... maybe something like a Curt Hennig or a Tully Blanchard. Finisher [normal finisher; the move your guy uses in the standard match to wrap things up]: School’s Out - a diamond cutter that can be hit from absolutely anywhere Signature Moves [no more than 5 please] The Varsity Vice - Anaconda vice That’s Three, Coach! - field goal style kick to the ribs followed by Flash “looking” out into the distance to watch his “kick” sail through the uprights. Ample interference from Ashley Standard cheating Tree of woe ---> baseball slide dropkick Other moves [10-25] This was fun but I’ll let you handle this. Three Strengths: All yours! Three Weaknesses: More of yours! Profile(History of your character): |

Character Name: John Henry Austin Height: 6'03" Weight: 251 lbs. Hometown: Cleveland, Tennessee Physical Description: John Henry has brown hair that's in a mullet. He has brown eyes. John Henry is cut, not Mr. Olympia style cut. He's cut like someone who works out as a hobby and keeps himself in great shape. Austin's upper body isn't overly massive, but the definition is there. His abdomen slopes down into a perfect "V" where it meets his waist. Austin's lower body is just as taken care of as his upper body. His ring attire consists of standard trunks, which can vary in color (black, blue, red, white, green). His boots match the color of his trunks. His kneepads and elbowpads are usually a different color but one that compliments the primary color (trunks and boots are black, kneepads and elbowpads may be blue). Face/heel/?: Face Manager [if applicable]: N/A Theme Music: "Rock You Like a Hurricane" by Scorpions Ring Entrance [please write in cut/paste form]: [Scorpions' "Rock You Like a Hurricane" comes over the PA system. The crowd lets out with a moderate cheer.] MC: Hailing from Cleveland, Tennessee and weighing in at two-hundred and fifty-one pounds. Here is... JOHN HENRY AUSTIN! [John Henry Austin appears in the aisle. His wrestling attire is standard trunks with matching color boots. Austin sports matching color elbowpads and kneepads to compliment his trunks and boots. Completing his attire is his brown mullet. The fans continue to cheer. John Henry Austin walks part way down the aisle and stops, soaking in the cheers. He zigzags to each side, slapping hands with the fans. John Henry Austin gets to the ring and climbs up onto the ring apron. He raises a fist into the air and lets out a "Yah!" He climbs into the ring and repeats the previous motion from the second turnbuckle. He hops off the turnbuckle and turns, getting ready for his match.] Wrestler Type [brawler/high flyer/etc]: Straight Power Wrestler/Brawler What real-life wrestler is your character similar to in the ring?: Billy Jack Haynes/Hercules Hernandez Finisher [normal finisher; the move your guy uses in the standard match to wrap things up]: Full Nelson - It doesn't need a special name. On smaller opponents, Austin will pick the opponent up and shake him around before putting him down only to repeat again. On bigger opponents, he'll swing the opponent back and forth to add more pressure. Signature Moves [no more than 5 please]: 1: Austin Backbreaker - Argentine backbreaker drop 2: running powerslam - usually hit when a smaller wrestlers tries a leapfrog over a charging Austin in the turnbuckle and Austin catches the opponent on his shoulder 3: Display of Strength - succession of three backbreakers, followed by shoving the opponent off of his knee, and then standing up and striking a biscep flex - this move can come into play catching a wrestler performing a high cross body or a flying cross body press 4: Blackjack Bomb - standard power bomb 5: American Backbreaker - Canadian backbreaker/Body Breaker 6: delayed suplex - standard hold the guy up there for as long as possible, will do this on bigger opponents as a display of power (as much as the laws of physics will allow) 7: bearhug - he grabs and lifts smaller opponents up (think opponent's knees on Austin's thighs) and shakes them around - on bigger opponents, he'll hold and bury his head into the opponent's chest or underarm to try to block any elbow counter 8: double chop to the opponent's neck - no special name, but Austin will scream and chop down with his right and left hand onto the opponent's neck Other moves [10-25]: 1: vertical suplex 2: belly-to-belly suplex - gets ahold of the opponent and then picks up, takes two steps to turn, and drops them down 3: back suplex - waistlock, up, and over 4: powerslam - catches the opponet on a rebound and instead of a fluid spin, he turns and takes a step or two and then pivots and slams 5: bodyslam - loves using this on bigger/fat opponents to show off his strength 6: slow-spin neckbreaker - think swinging neckbreaker, but the swing is executed slowly 7: gutwrench suplex - picks the opponent up in a gutwrench and tosses him... opponents can land back first or stomach first, so not exactly pretty 8: running clothesline - NOT a lariat... Austin just kinda throws his arm out there when running 9: shoulder tackle/running shoulder tackle - same move, different variation 10: spear tackle - usually oversold by smaller opponents and takes bigger opponents off their feet 11: hiptoss 12: armdrag - there's no crisp execution to this move, he just kinda hooks the arm and rolls over like it's a headlock takedown 13: sit-out choke bomb - Austin holds the chokelift portion as long as he can to show off his strength and then drops into a sit-out power bomb - when used against larger opponents, the move can be hit or miss 14: atomic drop 15: bionic elbow 16: elbowdrop to opponent's back 17: kneedrop to opponent's back 18: forearm shot to opponent's back 19: punches - hook, rabbit, uppercut 20: side suplex - ala Dino Bravo's finisher - often delayed to show off his strength before he drops down 21: abdominal stretch - most time he stands to the side of the opponent and doesn't drape his leg over the opponent's thigh 22: seated chinlock with knee planted firmly in the opponent's back 23: straddle chinlock with knee planted firmly in opponent's back 24: head vice - think of crush's head squeeze move 25: grinding his knuckle into opponent's temple - Sgt. Slaughter's finisher for a time while he was an Iraqi sympathizer in WWE Three Strengths: 1: Strength: Austin is decpetively powerful, able to suplex, slam, and powerhouse with some of the biggest people in the wrestling industry even though he may be half their size. Austin could lay claim to being the strongest man in the AWA and quite possibly not be lying. 2: Lethal Finisher: What would an 80's style fed be without the unbreakable Full Nelson? Austin applies the move quite well, considering his general lack of wrestling know-how. Once he has it on and his fingers interlaced, the move is hardly ever broken due to Austin's strength. Now, those opponents who are just too large to put the move on, they a whole new problem. Move can't be lethal if it's not applied. Even applied, a quick shove off the ropes or corner can put Austin on his back for a three count. It'll take Austin some time to figure he needs to roll over. 3: Feeds off the Crowd: Austin's zeal can not be denied. His enthusiam can pump up just about any crowd. When the crowd rallies behind him, Austin's adrenaline kicks in and he can work past the pain (see Hulk Up, but in a Sting fashion or Warrior fashion where he no-sells some punches and then unloads a flurry of offense). The more excited Austin gets, the more excited a crowd gets. Three Weaknesses: 1: Dumb: To put it bluntly, Austin isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. This is a combination of naieve and intelligence. He's easily taken advantage of and can't really formulate wrestling strategies other than "hurt his back and neck to make the full nelson hurt more!" Paired with the right parnter or manager, this weakness will subside a bit. 2: Wrestling Expertise: He'll never been in a five-star classic unless he's carried to the match. He's not a counter-wrestler. Hell, he probably doesn't know the difference between a wristlock and a wristwatch, to quote Gorilla Monsoon. Austin relies on one strategy, which is an explosive power-based offense. He hits hard when he hits. He relies on his strength to counter opponents. 3: Hit and Run Offense: Austin is slow in the ring. Anyone who uses a hit and run offense is sure to dominate a match against him. The opponent may not necessarily win, keep in mind Austin hits hard, but they stand a better chance of someone coming straight at him. Profile(History of your character): John Henry Austin was born and grew up in Cleveland, Tennessee. Austin was born to blue-collar parents. While growing up, Austin, like damn near every other professional wrestler, excelled at sports. He was great at baseball, soccer, and basketball. Austin showed a special affection for playing football. Austin spent all of his summers in football camps and played in peewee football leagues. When he started attending Cleveland Middle School, Austin stuck with football in the fall and winter and was on the track and field team in the spring. Austin started playing varsity ball his freshmen year at Cleveland High School. Austin was a great defensive tackle, easily able to bring down guys bigger than him. He had four tremendous years with impressive stats his four years at Cleveland High School. Football was his sole focus sports while attending high school. Austin's grades weren't so good. He wasn't really that smart. His hopes of being picked up by Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, or other SEC teams were dashed due to his grades. Upon talking to him, recruits realized his grades weren't going to come up during his tenure at a higher education facility. Austin's football career came to a close upon graudation from high school, barely getting decent enough grades to pass. While the youngster showed a lot of heart, desire, and dedication towards football, he didn't display these same attitude towards his scholastic pursuits. A few months after graudation, Austin got a job at the local Magic Chef manufacturing facility in Cleveland. In August, when a lot of his friends were going off to college, even Cleveland Community College (good ol' Cougar High!), Austin had joined the work force. Austin grew up a fan of wrestling. His father use to take him to shows in Chattanooga when promotions came through town. Austin followed the promotions of the mid 90's, having his favorite wrestlers of the time. Austin even traveled with his father to Knoxville and Chattanooga to catch local shows put on by Knoxville Championship Wrestling in the early 2000's. With nowhere to go, Austin caught a local wrestling show in the fall of 2008 and decided that was the way to go. If he couldn't play football, he would become a wrestler. Austin searched online using a computer at his local library and came across Barry Gordon's Wrestling School. Austin contacted Gordon and set up a meeting. Gordon took one look at Austin and saw his meal ticket. Gordon was a down-on-his-luck wrestler, usually going under the ring name "Flashy" Barry Riverside. Gordon had never achieved the success in wrestling he felt, in his own mind at least, he deserved. Being a talentless hack who couldn't carry a paper bag in a wrestling match, had nothing to do it. Gordon was in great shape thanks to his diet of Coors Light, McDonalds double cheeseburgers (the bastards stopped the $0.29 hamburger Wendesdays!), fast women, and a bottle of Wild Turkey after an especially good payday. Gordon refused to see past Austin's lack of personality and inability to articulate well, thanks to a bad meth habit (check his teeth!) and an untreated case of syphillis. Gordon crash-coursed Austin through training in two-weeks and immediately took the youngster out on the road with him in September 2008. The two took tag team bookings around the Carolinas, which meant any promoter worth his weight in morals wouldn't hire these two. Austin and Gordon found themselves booked in backyard wrestling matches, matches performed in run-down shanties which should've been condemned, and against opponents with as much skill, less sometimes and this includes training, than young Austin had. Gordon kept promising Austin it would take three months for them both to land contracts with the UWF. From there, the sky was the limit because the UWF had been asking Gordon to join their roster for quite some time, according to one of many outlandish tales Gordon would have Austin believe. The three months flashed by, Austin saving his money for the eventual (Gordon was a very convincing man, with Austin's best interests at heart!) trip to Canada. of course, Gordon was cutting side deals to get the lionshare of the earnings for the team. Gordon asked Austin to pay for his travel to Canada. Gordon, the good Christian man he was, had sent all his money home to his mother who needed it due to her glocoma. There's no way a God fearing, bible reading individual wouldn't not use protection during an intimate encounter with a ring rat. But... Gordon was always a firm believer the Spray & Pray worked much, much better than the Pull & Pray. In short, Austin paid for Gordon to head to Canada to work out the final details with UWF Management about their UWF contracts. Austin forked over the money, and Gordon headed to Southern California to look for work, finally coming to the realization (during a heroin induced high) Austin wasn't the total package Gordon believed him to be. Austin stayed stranded in Oklahoma City, and finally figured out Gordon may not be such an upstanding person after Gordon failed to return after a month of being gone. Austin used the rest of the money he had and moved to Jacksonville, Florida. He got a job at the local Walmart for some money. After making himself value to the company by learning every available position, read that as he sucked at every position but one, before learning he really excelled at being a Walmart Greeter and Shopping Cart Collector. In December 2008, Austin watched his first OSCW show. Realizing the OSCW was based out of Jacksonville, Austin did what he should've done the first time he decided on a career as a wrestler. He did his research. He went back and watched old OSCW shows he could find online or through tape trading online. From there, Austin found AWA programming and became a huge fan of Ron Houston. Austin finally gathered up enough money after saving for five months and headed for the OSCW training sessions. The trainers at the OSCW's Den were impressed with Austin's look. They were frightened by his inability to work a match, to say the least. Austin didn't realize an old tradition in wrestling that some still held onto in the present. The wrestling industry is a family and fraternity. The older guys want to protect this business which is why there are a select group who gets to train the next generation. This isn't always the case with the "wrestling training schools" opening and closing every single day so some hack can scam a buck for his next swig of Natty Ice. Austin took to the training, being treated like a complete newbie. What took some guys a few weeks to learn, took Austin longer. He spent all of 2009 training to be a wrestler. The trainers, while frustrated with Austin as a slow learner, couldn't deny his heart and dedication. They saw in Austin a love and passion for the business so many young guys pay lip service to. Austin never griped or complained. If he had trouble learning something, he kept working at it until he was able to get it down. Starting in early 2010, Austin worked for OSCW as a security man to take bumps and as part of the ring crew. He continued to work at Walmart as a greeter and would go to the OSCW which were local or close by and hang around out back. A lot of the veterans liked Austin because he asked them a lot of questions about the business and would repay them by running errands for them, covering for them when need be, and other things better left unmentioned. While dumb, Austin wasn't putting out sexual favors. As we near the middle of 2010, Austin has sent out a few tapes with some matches he's worked against other trainees in hopes of being able to land a deal with a promotion. |

Name of wrestler: Jack Marshall Weight: 288 Height: 6'4 Age: 32 Hometown: Jackson County, Mississippi Description: Marshall has curly blonde hair, cut short, and a babyface that belies his experience. His torso and trunk are thick and solid, but without a whole lot of definition. Also, let's be honest here, he's got a slight beer gut that he keeps in check. To the ring he wears plain attire: forest green wrestling trunks, white boots with red seams and one black star on the outside, heavily taped wrists, and a thin, long sleeved, satiny/velvety looking ring jacket that's forest green as well and left open. Entrance Music: "Fortunate Son" by CCR Describe your entrance (Try and be short and to the point. No huge entrances, except for maybe supercards. We also don't have pyro or anything like that) - please make sure this is as detailed as possible because this will be cut and pasted and used as your entrance for your matches): [The familiar opening to "Fortunate Son" by Creedence Clearwater Revival plays as the fans cheer. Not a moment later, the curtains are parted and Jack Marshall strolls into view, hands raised in the air. Jack slyly grins, appreciative of the response he's gotten, and then continues to the ring. Marshall has curly blonde hair, cut short, and wears forest green wrestling trunks, white boots with red seams and a black star on the outside, and a similarly forest green ring jacket left open. He rolls into the ring and gravitates to the nearest corner, taking off his jacket and then stretching on the ropes.] Alignment (Heel/Neutral/Face): Face Gimmick: A wrestler Story: In wrestling, there are naturals. Men who don't need to train for hours, spend years on the treadmill, guys who take to wrestling like a fish to water even if their tan sucks and their diet includes a few too many SoCo and cokes. Jack Marshall is one of those guys. Marshall grew up watching wrestling in Misissippi since the womb and had nothing else on his mind growing up. By the time he was 14 years old he'd been setting up the ring for two years, with his payment coming in the form of promoter Wayne Warner letting him bounce around in the ring and goof around with his friends. At that time, Jack was about 6'0 and a pudgy 250 pounds, lacking things like co ordination and dexterity, but picking up the mental aspect of the business in a minute. But by the time he was 16, Jack was 6'4 and 290, and all of his coordination came racing back to him. After a few months of being awkward and all over the place, things just clicked for Marshall and Warner started him on weekends. Jack Marshall drew his first paycheck in wrestling at the age of 16 years, 7 months and 4 days. Fans in the south associate the name Jack Marshall with wrestling. If there was a territory below the Mason Dixon line, Marshall competed in it. During a run through Florida, the legendary Ray Richards noticed Marshall's success and took him under his wing, teaching him the finer points of the squared circle AND the secret to the brainbuster, a move Marshall uses as a finish to this very day. Marshall served on screen as Richards' protege, and the two toured throughout the Carolinas, through his native Mississippi and into the furthest parts of Louisiana. With one last trick to show him, Richards turned on Marshall in a vicious attack and left him a bloody mess. Jack was left to chase Richards throughout the South again, finally tearing him to shreds in a brutal cage match that took place near Marshall's hometown in Biloxi, Mississippi. Just as Marshall's star was climbing, Jack took a trip to Japan and spent two years getting paid to play the role of rampaging American mowing through the ranks. Nice job, if you can get it. After that, Jack Marshall returned to Mississippi and went a little out of his realm, touring throughout the Northeast and a little bit into the Midwest. As GCCW starts up, Marshall has finally returned to the Southern territory he grew up in, with a little tread on the tires but still the same natural he ever was. 10 to 30 Moves that you use regularly: 1. lunging clothesline 2. punch to breadbasket --> running kneelift 3. mafia kick 4. suplex variety packs - belly to back, butterfly (delayed), belly to belly 5. running double axehandle 6. delayed side backbreaker 7. soccer kick to ribs 8. diving knee drop 9. European uppercut 10. repeated headbutts 11. Memphis trio - low blow/foot stomp/thumb to the eye 12. cobra clutch 13. standing neckbreaker 14. Atomic elbow 2 to 3 signature moves: 1. hang out to dry suplex ---> diving double axehandle to the head 2. inverted facelock ---> elbow to the throat Finisher and description: Brainbuster - a delayed brainbuster, taught to Marshall by the master of the move himself, Ray Richards. Set-up move for finisher: short back elbow Manager [yes/no]: no |

Character Name: Captain Joe Flint Other Nicknames: "The Duke", "Captain USA" ('America' was copyrighted!) Height: 6'5" Weight: 281 lbs. Hometown: Parris Island, South Carolina Physical Description: A burly, barrel-chested man, Joe Flint is an imposing physical presence. He maintains a military high-and-tight, is clean-shaven, and has brown eyes. Notable is his face, as he has a prominent nose and jaw that resembles John Wayne. His ring attire consists of camo fatigue pants and black combat boots, as well as taped hands and a single red, white, and blue elbow pad. Face/heel/?: Superpatriot face Theme Music: The Marine's Hymn Ring Entrance [please write in cut/paste form]: [The snare drum starts up an intro and the fans cheer as they recognize the first few notes of "The Marine's Hymn" played by a marching band.] MC: About to come down the aisle... from Parris Island, South Carolina... weighing two-hundred eighty-one pounds... ...he is a proud American! ...CAPTAIN JOE FLINT! [The first few bars of the Marine's Hymn play through to the approval of the fans, before a trio of Marine reserve members march out, serving as a color guard. They fly the Stars And Stripes, the Marine flag, and the flag of ***INSERT THE STATE WE ARE IN***, leading the way for Captain Joe Flint. Flint is a big, burly fellow. His barrel-chested physique isn't a picture of rock-solid conditioning, but it is a battle-scarred picture of toughness and raw power. The Captain keeps his hair in a military high-and-tight, and his prominent jaw and nose are the primary features of a face that strongly resembles a famous American actor of long ago... which is the reason many call him "The Duke". He wears camo fatigue pants and black combat boots, his hands are taped up, and he sports a single elbow pad on his left arm which is emblazoned in American red, white, and blue. Flint slaps hands all the way down the aisle, passing out small American flags as he goes. He stops for children and anyone with any emblem that indicates that they are a veteran, shaking hands with them before moving on. The Marine's Hymn cycles in the background as he takes his time, moving down the aisle and all the way around the ring.] ***ANNOUNCER BANTER, AS FLINT DOES TAKE HIS TIME*** [Finally, the former (don't dare call him "ex-") Marine climbs the ring steps and enters the ring. He pumps a fist to the crowd, who roar their approval. The chant begins...] Crowd: "U! S! A! U! S! A! U! S! A! U! S! A! U! S! A! U! S! A! U! S! A! U! S! A!" [The Marine's Hymn dies out, but the chant keeps going as Flint goes to the ropes, cupping his ear and encouraging the chant.] Wrestler Type [brawler/high flyer/etc]: Brawler with technical proficiency What real-life wrestler is your character similar to in the ring?: Sgt. Slaughter Finisher [normal finisher; the move your guy uses in the standard match to wrap things up]: Liberty Clutch: The Cobra Clutch. The twist that Flint puts on the hold is that once applied, he tries to take his man down with it, going into Crossface positon and cranking back. Should he succeed in doing this, it is over (see: Kurt Angle scissoring the leg with the anklelock; you know it's over when he does that). That takedown is not a necessary part of the hold, though... a normal Cobra Clutch will suffice. Signature Moves [no more than 5 please] - Howitzer: Lariat - Big windup punch that absolutely hits like a freight train. See: any John Wayne movie ever. - ATOMIC NOOGIE~! - Bunker Buster: A gourdbuster. - The Heavy Artillery: A variant of the Howitzer done in the corner. He likes to hit two or three corner clotheslines in a row, whipping the guy across the ring and nailing it in succession... this is "unloading with the Heavy Artillery". Sometimes he misses the third one, sometimes not. Other moves [10-25] - Punches/elbows/forearms/kicks. - Body Slam. He likes to do two or three of these quickly in a row to take all the wind out of someone. - Atomic Drop. Often sets up the windup punch. - Side Backbreaker. - Reverse Chinlock. - Snapmare. Often followed by a kick to the base of the neck. - Biel Throw. - Elbow Drop. - Vertical Suplex. - Double Axehandle. - Shoulderblock. - Amateur takedowns and escapes. - Bear Hug. - Side American Leg Sweep (never call it Russian!) Three Strengths: 1) Toughness/Heart. He will keep fighting until you darn near kill him. He will never submit. 2) Fundamentals. Flint is primarily a brawler, but he is suprisingly fundamentally sound. He is able to use technical escapes and counterwrestling to defend himself with a high degree of skill. He was a USMC wrestling champion, and was trained professionally by Hamilton Graham himself. 3) Temper. This is a disadvantage for many, but not for Flint. If you make him angry, he does not become careless or reckless; he becomes John Rambo. He is incredibly dangerous when angered. Three Weaknesses: 1) Athleticism. Flint is a tough man, but he's not naturally athletic. He's got a soft gut, he's kinda slow, he's not very agile, and he lacks explosiveness. 2) Predictable. The Captain likes to get in a methodical rhythm on offense. He has a habit of repeating the same move a couple of times, and using recognizable attack patterns. 3) Pride. The Captain is easily baited, because his pride in his country has made him blind to the fact that he is NOT his country. He will never refuse a challenge, and so can be suckered. He will never submit, and so can be injured. He will never allow an insult to go unchallenged, and so will stretch himself thin. He will overextend himself in matches trying to do too much, because he feels that he must be an exemplar for the USA. Profile(History of your character): Joe Flint is a former Marine, who served in Afghanistan and Iraq. He was a star wrestler in high school and in the Marine Corps, and was nicknamed "The Duke" because of his passing resemblance to John Wayne. That resemblance served him well, when he was honorably discharged in 2007 as a Captain after his third tour of duty. The 30-year old showed interest in professional wrestling, of which he had always been a fan. The Marine Corps sponsored his training, seeing Flint as an ideal recruitment tool; they sent him to Hamilton Graham's training camp. Graham saw great potential in Flint despite his age, and by early 2009 Joe Flint was in action. He has wrestled across the north and midwest, and is now here in the AWA to promote patriotism and American pride. Despite the jingoist overtones, though, Joe Flint is a man with his eyes wide open. He knows that many people have lost faith in the country because of the shenangains in Washington and the endless stream of uncaring polticians. He feels the same way, but is an optimist; he does not promote 'my-country-right-or-wrong' patriotism, but rather the American _values_. Freedom, liberty, and justice... he wants the American people to remember the values that made the country great, and wants to help make the country great again. THAT is the America he represents. |

Dean is a middle child with two older brothers, three younger brothers, and two sisters as well - all involved in the wrestling business in some fashion. But Dean is seen as the pride of the bunch - the best wrestler in Canada, many would claim, and now he comes to the AWA, leaving behind his father’s struggling Canadian wrestling territory, Calgary Championship Wrestling, to try and “make it big” in the States. |

Character Name: “Big Chief” Yuma Weaver Height: 5’11 Weight: 258 Hometown: Bernice, Oklahoma Physical Description: Weaver’s physique is deceiving - he’s big and bulky but not muscular in tone. However, he’s quite agile and quick for a man his size thanks to his years in football. Face/heel/?: Face Manager [if applicable]: Theme Music: Ring Entrance [please write in cut/paste form]: Wrestler Type [brawler/high flyer/etc]: Brawler What real-life wrestler is your character similar to in the ring?: Wahoo McDaniel Finisher [normal finisher; the move your guy uses in the standard match to wrap things up]: Top rope overhead chop Discus chop Thunder Mountain Driver - Very quickly executed Death Valley Driver Signature Moves [no more than 5 please] Three-point stance tackle The Chop - expect these absolutely rib-shattering knife-edge chops to come at all times from any direction. Indian Deathlock - yep, I had to Off-the-ropes powerslam Running crossbody block Other moves [10-25] Three Strengths: Three Weaknesses: Profile(History of your character): Edward Weaver is a nephew of former Mid-South Wrestling star, Chief Thunder Mountain. Following in his uncle’s footsteps, Weaver went to college where he excelled in college football. At the University of Oklahoma, Weaver became a three-time All-American despite having various knee and shoulder injuries during his time there. He was almost expelled after a drunken altercation with another teammate following a bad loss but managed to escape with a slap on the wrist. Following college, Weaver was drafted to the NFL where he never achieved super-stardom but was a fan favorite on any team he played for (had stints with the New York Jets, Denver Broncos, and San Diego Chargers.) But injuries again slowed Weaver and he found himself out of the league after only four seasons. Now at the age of 22, Weaver has decided to follow in his Uncle’s footsteps once more and enter the world of pro wrestling. Upon entering the Combat Corner, Weaver quickly impressed management with his determination and thirst for knowledge. Head Trainer Todd Michaelson called Weaver, “one of the quickest learners I’ve ever met. He’s a natural.” On the eve of his graduation from the Corner, Weaver has adopted the Native American first name “Yuma” to pay tribute to his heritage. |

And then there's the remainder of the PCW guys who have yet to be taken. Most of these guys don't have apps so I'll tell you a little bit more about them based on the profiles in my brain. *** Ebola Zaire - the madman from Africa is no stranger to AWA fans, having made several appearances at this point. It should come as no surprise that he was based on Abdullah The Butcher several years ago when I created the name one night on IRC and continues to be based on Abby. He'll need a manager because he shouldn't talk. Lots of weapons and DQ losses... but carnage is his interest, not winning. "Maniac" Morgan Dane - another character I've held in my pocket for several years now, looking for the right time and place to use him. Based off a mix of Bruiser Brody, the Necro Butcher, and Cactus Jack, Dane should be the wildest brawler you've ever seen. He's controversial to a fault - there's a reason that his younger brother, Jason, and sister, Lori, haven't been able to get him a job anywhere they've worked. The Lost Boy - you caught a glimpse of this Missing Link homage on Access. I'm still not sure if he has potential for long-term success but at least you know what he's capable of. Also can be used with hated manager, Ghazi Hassan, a Skandor Akbar-alike who managed him as part of a stable called "Misery Inc." in PCW. "Prince" Colin Hayden - the Chris Adams to the Lynches' Von Erichs, Hayden would play the role of the fiery babyface who stands alongside the Lynches when an ally is needed... for now. Willie Hammer - a powerful, charismatic young man who comes from me developing a fondness for SoCal indy wrestler, Willie Mack. With Sweet Daddy Williams as his mentor, Hammer would have an instant connection on the roster which should ease the transition. "Ragin' Cajun" Jimmy Brown - got nothing for you on this one. I just liked the name. "Bunkhouse" Bobby O'Connor - this Irish brawler would land somewhere approximate to Dick Murdoch in style but more fan friendly in attitude. Run And Gun - the Fantastics perhaps? The Killer Bees? Sweet Sensation - you caught a glimpse of these guys on Access as well so you should get an idea of what I was going for there. Baron Von Klauss - the very obvious Baron Von Raschke gimmick that flopped once in the AWA but is ripe for re-use. Wildman White - got nothing for you here. Bestial - described in the PCW press release as a "big bull," Bestial comes across like Vader in my mind. "Handsome" Harry Hyatt w/Starlight - this, of course, was Jimmy Garvin and Sunshine to me. |

Character Name: Porter Crowley Weight: 260 Hometown: Parts Unknown Physical Description: Crowley is your average "everyman" in build. There's no bulging biceps or really anything distinctive about his physique. But he does have one hell of a badly scarred right side of the face, covering from chin to forehead. His black hair is cut in a shaggy bowl cut - almost like he has cut it himself. And his eyes? Well, his eyes are cold, vacant, and quite creepy. Face/heel/?: Nasty heel Manager [if applicable]: None Theme Music: You choose! Ring Entrance [please write in cut/paste form]: Crowley kinda lurches through the entry, cocking a head to the side as he looks out over the crowd. He wobbles down the ramp, looking like he might fall over at any moment. Wrestler Type [brawler/high flyer/etc]: Stiff brawler What real-life wrestler is your character similar to in the ring?: Mick Foley, Necro Butcher Finisher [normal finisher; the move your guy uses in the standard match to wrap things up]: Damaged Goods - fireman's carry into a kneelift (Go To Sleep) Signature Moves [no more than 5 please] Face-based cheating (ropeburns, biting, clawing) Cornered headbutts Clothesline to the face Stungun into the top buckle Other moves [10-25] Turnbuckle smash Elbowsmash Haymakers to the face Kneelift Forearm crossfaces Smashing the face into the mat Stomps to the face Slow-walk kneedrop Falling headbutt Fistdrop Three Strengths: Brutal style - Crowley wants to bust someone's face up... period. He rarely will do anything that doesn't allow for that. No fear - Crowley is afraid of nothing. He'll run headlong into a fight without blinking an eye Unique style - his unorthodox attacks inside the ring make him hard to defend Three Weaknesses: No respect for rules or authority Is sensitive to what people think of the scar on his face Can be easily outwrestled on the mat. Profile(History of your character): Porter Crowley's history is a bit of a mystery. Few things are known about him - and he'd prefer to keep it that way. The facts are these - 1) He grew up in a broken home, son to an abusive father, and was put into an orphanage at age 9. 2) While in the orphanage, a dispute with a fellow orphan led to him being badly burned, leaving the facial scars he carries to this day. 3) Upon leaving the orphanage at 14, Crowley made a living by fighting in "toughman" style tournaments all around the world. He's been a lot of places, seen a lot of things, and had a lot of experiences that has toughened him up. 4) A promoter with a vision spotted Crowley in a toughman contest in Mexico and brought him to the Pacific Northwest. Crowley competed in the Pacific Wrestling Company for six years, brawling and fighting his way to some of the most brutal matches that region has ever seen. He is a three-time PWC champ. Spotted by Bill Masterson, AWA VP Of Talent Relations, during a scouting trip, Crowley was signed to an AWA contract and brought immediately on board for action. Ever worried about his face, Crowley can often be seen trying to find ways to cover it up... and if the AWA fans pick up on the PWC fans' cruel taunt of "PRET-TY PORT-ER!" the AWA roster may be in serious trouble. |

This is where your wrestler is *strongest*, this doesn't mean that he does not have characteristics that you didn't choose here. These are his *strongest* traits.): 1) Ring Awareness 2) Stamina 3) Strength Weaknesses (give three weaknesses your wrestler suffers from): Be honest folks - no wrestler is perfect. Number of weaknesses should number the same as strengths 1) Not very agile nor fast 2) Not adept at technical wrestling 3) Unwillingness to learn the phrase "fight another day" Profile: (wrestler's personal and wrestling background - make it long and descriptive. The more involved the profile, the better the character development is!) Kaden only started wrestling a couple years after high school. He had banked that he would get a football scholarship somewhere, but it was not to be as the universities scouting him didn't think he would be good at collegiate ball. Undeterred, Kaden kept up his studies in physical therapy at the community college while trying to keep in contact with the coaching staffs at Tulsa and Northeastern St. A year later, he joined NSU and their football program, as a linebacker/strong safety. He started his senior year and did moderately well, but he understood that this was the end of his football days. He graduated from NSU well, but the jobs around at the time for physical therapy beyond personal training was sparse. His brother, Cooper, had been active in some professional wrestling since his teens and asked his older brother if he'd like to try it out. Kaden agreed, figuring it would be a way to keep up his conditioning, hold him over until he figured what he should do with his life, and do something with his brother. They formed the tag team The Oklahoma Brothers and competed at local indy feds in the Tulsa area. They did alright, but with Kaden being green, Cooper tended to do most of the wrestling as Kaden did spotty work until he knew the ins & outs of the ring. After a year, Kaden felt a little more comfortable in the ring and out of the ring, interacting the fans and putting on a show. He was able to apply his degree at some of the more stable federations in the area, doubling as a trainer. Meanwhile, his brother Cooper helped train him on some more basic moves, gradually moving up in difficulty. His want to learn and excel at what he did helped Kaden pick things up well and got him more on track with his brother so that he was able to be a fully helpful tag team partner. When he heard that the American Wrestling Association down in Dallas was looking for tag teams to help out the roster, he brought it to his brother. Cooper couldn't believe it and immediate went down to apply. They were able to grab a spot, wrestling some of the biggest stars in wrestling along the way. They faced off against then AWA National Tag Team Champions Kentucky's Pride, which was a highlight to the both of them. They also faced off against Grant Stone, both getting quite bloodied along the way. Their last days in AWA were in their Stampede Cup where they actually defeated overwhelming favorites, The Russian; they lost in the next round to the team of Juan Vasquez and Raphael Rhodes. During their time there, they worked with trainers and various wrestling, helping both of them tremendously. While he enjoys wrestling, it's not his desire like his brother, Cooper. He still wishes to work in rehabilitation and ultimately open up his own center. As such, he's taken correspondence classes, hoping to get him tracked on earning an MBA. But he doesn't want to disappoint his brother, so he continues on with the ring work. Anything else we should know about your character (Any major titles held or accomplishments, RSPWF Top 200 rankings, and anything else that may come into your head): Nope - has only wrestled in AWA and other places in the Oklahoma/Texas/Arkansas area. ----------------- WRESTLER INFO: ----------------- Wrestler's Name: Cooper Oats Height: 5'11 Weight: 216 Orientation (face, heel, tweener): Face Born: April 3, 1988 Hometown and origin country of character: Zeb, Oklahoma Appearance and ring attire [please be descriptive]: Short dirty-blond hair, a perpetual smile on his face, and a clean-shaven look. Compact in size, but very well conditioned. Like his brother, wears a pair of red tights and black boots to the ring. Wrestler's personality [again should be detailed]: He's energy personified - Cooper doesn't know the meaning of the word "slow down". He's very good natured and very devoted to his older brother Kaden. Loves wrestling and knew at an early age this is what's destined for him. "Real Life" Wrestler that he works most like: I guess Jerry Lynn? Entrance Theme Music: "Snake Hunt Holler" by Bloody Ol' Mule 25-50 favorite moves (Please describe each move if needed): Signature Moves 1. Leaping/Flying Shoulderblock 2. Shining Wizard 3. Facebuster 4. Running Double High Knees 5. Spinning sole kick 6. Diving Leg Lariat 7. Springboard back elbow 8. Sitout Powerbomb 9. Spinebuster 10. Brainbuster Other Moves: 1) Dropkick 2) Plancha 3) Punch 4) Lariat 5) Heel kick 6) Enzuigiri 7) DDT 8) Handspring elbow 9) Kneedrop 10) Diving Crossbody 11) Moonsault 12) Springboard splash 13) Leg Drop 14) DDT 15) Plancha 16) DDT 17) Bulldog 18) Hurricanrana 19) Discus Punch Main Finishing move (Please describe in full, don't just give a name): Tornado DDT Set up move for Main Finisher: Spinning sole kick Strengths (Choose three strengths. This is where your wrestler is *strongest*, this doesn't mean that he does not have characteristics that you didn't choose here. These are his *strongest* traits.): 1) Very good all-round, for the most part 2) A ball of energy in the ring - hard to get Cooper winded/tired 3) Very loyal to his brother Kaden and would do anything for him Weaknesses (give three weaknesses your wrestler suffers from): Be honest folks - no wrestler is perfect. Number of weaknesses should number the same as strengths 1) Can be easily distracted in the ring/fall for trickery 2) Like his brother, technical wrestling isn't his strong suit, so holds aren't really in his repertoire 3) His mouth can sometimes be a little too much in the ring, especially if on a role, so he could piss off others at the wrong time Profile: (wrestler's personal and wrestling background - make it long and descriptive. The more involved the profile, the better the character development is!) Cooper was born to wrestle - or so he thinks. It's all he could think of growing up, watching all the wrestling shows on TV and whenever they came Muskogee & Tulsa, dragging his father and his older brother Kaden to the shows. He always wanted to grow to be the big man like Alex Martinez, but as he grew up, he kind of was always disappointed that he never shot up like his brother Kaden. However, he never let this get to him as his father always told him never to let things that he couldn't control get the better of him. So Cooper accepted his smaller size and adapted his dream of being a professional wrestler, following the likes of Tiger Claw, TORA Wanizame, and Youth Gone Wild. He practiced at home - sometimes getting himself hurt in the process - and learned as much as he could on his own. With the agreement of his parents, he joined up with a wrestling company at the age 17 in Muskogee and there he learned a good deal of moves and ring psychology. It took him a couple more times to get some things down, but his dedication was always 100%. He graduated high school, but academics were never something he took to heart - he completed high school more to get it out of the way so he could devote more time to his wrestling career. He moved to Tulsa and joined the Tulsa Wrestling Association federation, competing as the youngest member of the roster. While still only holding a grasp of the basic moves, Cooper was able to impress with the way he used his speed to make big impacts with the basic moves. His power, at his size, also impressed the TWA managers and they helped work with him to improve his overall skill. Cooper was happy as could be, living his dream of being a wrestler. He gradually moved up the card as the fans could feel his eagerness and love for the sport and wanted him to succeed. He was able to win the Tulsa Star Championship [the federation's secondary title] and hold it for a year and a half. It was at this point that his brother Kaden graduated NSU with nothing to do and invited him over to wrestle with him. He was happy that Kaden agreed and did everything he could do to teach him the basics of the ring. His brother was a quicker study, getting things down on the first try. Cooper, while a little jealous that his brother could get all these things down so fast whereas he had to take many times to learn the same moves, was still happy to have his brother by his side and join him. At first, Kaden just accompanied Cooper to the ring as he continued his singles career. It wasn't until about four months later when Cooper lost the title that he and Kaden became a dedicated tag team. The two wrestled well, with Cooper taking the bulk of the work early, but then gradually letting Kaden in the matches more. They lost their first couple of matches, but the signs were always there that they would do well. After about a year of competing, Kaden brought an opportunity to wrestle in the big time federation, the American Wrestling Association, as a part of their tag team ranks. Cooper couldn't believe it as there were some of the best of the best there at the time - Juan Vasquez, Stevie Scott, Adrian Freeman, and Calisto Dufresne. Cooper threw whatever he could find in his bags and drove him and his brother down to Dallas immediately, signing up and starting the next week. The two started out wrestling against the AWA National Tag Team Champions, City Jack & Tin Can Rust [aka Kentucky's Pride]. They lost, but afterwards, City Jack told them that he was impressed with their showings and wished them well. Cooper couldn't believe what he was hearing and couldn't believe that he was wrestling against some of the greats! They went on to wrestle some more matches - a couple of singles matches against the evil Grant Stone left them both bloodied and bruised. Their biggest accomplishment, though, was when they fought The Russians, who had the AWA National Champion Koyla Sudakov. They were able to beat them in a shocking upset, with a rollup by Kaden Oats. Cooper was happy as could be and the two celebrated like they had won the titles. The next night - as they were in a tournament - they fought against Raphael Rhodes and Juan Vasquez. Unfortunately, their luck ran out and Rhodes obliterated both brothers. Cooper was upset, especially at doing so poorly in front of one of his favorites Vasquez. The two left the AWA shortly thereafter, though they had both learned much. Cooper worked with some of the AWA wrestlers and expanded his ability greatly. The two continued to work in TWA after their stay in AWA, returning as a much better team and as one of TWA's best. Anything else we should know about your character (Any major titles held or accomplishments, RSPWF Top 200 rankings, and anything else that may come into your head): Nope - has only wrestled in AWA and other places in the Oklahoma/Texas/Arkansas area. Tag Team Finisher: Bison Rush [Kaden holds his opponent up in a high bearhug as Cooper hits him with his flying shoulderblock]. |

Profile(History of your character): Devastation's first stint in the AWA was marked by impressive victories and poor managerial guidance from Ronnie Jamison that left Devastation on the outside looking in on the title picture. A release from his contract sent Devastation onto the independent scene, looking for a way back to the big time. A random show in Detroit saw Devastation take on local villain, Overlord, in a brutal showdown. After the show, Devastation approached Overlord about forming a new tag team and the Skullcrushers were formed. *** Character Name: Overlord Height: 6’6 Weight: 320 Hometown: Detroit, Michigan Physical Description: Unlike his partner, Overlord is thick and bulky. His power puts him easily in the upper echelon of strongmen in professional wrestling. |

Intimidation - Love him or hate him, there are very few who don't respect the name "Oliver Strickland" and what he has accomplished in his career. That creates an "aura" of sorts that can be tough to overcome. Three Weaknesses: Out of touch - Now eight years away from an active career, Strickland may find himself out of sorts in a modern wrestling world. Age - Making a return to the world of wrestling after an eight year absence, this now Profile(History of your character): Oliver Strickland was born in 1960 to very wealthy parents who saw the entire world laid out on a red carpet for their only child. Strickland grew up in a wealthy part of Connecticut and enjoyed every opportunity that money could buy for him. At the age of 18, Strickland was accepted to Yale University where he excelled in everything he did. But on one late night study break, Strickland happened to turn on the television and catch pro wrestling action. The physical clashes between personas of good and evil were intriguing to Strickland and for the first time in his life, he disobeyed his parents' wishes. After trying to stick around school for another semester, Strickland soon dropped out and pursued a new dream - professional wrestling school. He was, of course, disowned by his family for this decision. Strickland was trained by the legendary British "shooter", Sir Wilbur Waters, who saw something special in Strickland. After a year of training, Waters took Strickland under his wing as they went on the road for the National Grappling Federation. Waters was a top star there, a bad guy who had earned the ire of the fans with years of rule breaking tactics against their favorites. With Strickland as his on-air protege as well, the rookie found himself in a ton of high profile matches in his first year in the business, something that made him develop quicker than most. In 1980, his second year in the business, Strickland won the Pacific Northwest Title over a local fan favorite named Billy White, injuring White's knee with the spinning toehold at the same time. Strickland dominated the Pacific Northwest for the better part of the year. His mentor, Waters, came in a few times during the year for tag matches with his protege but for the first time in his life, Strickland was truly on his own. The success of Strickland in the Portland territory quickly earned the notice of the major promoters in the country and soon after dropping the title back to a returning Billy White in early 1981, Strickland hit the road. In 1981-82, Strickland competed in promotions in Florida, the Carolinas, the Minnesota area, and Texas - drawing big crowds on top of all of them as a rule breaker. In 1983, Wilbur Waters invited Strickland to come to the United Kingdom with him for a six month tour. Strickland accepted his mentor's offer and the two lit up the British wrestling scene as a top tag team, winning the United Kingdom Tag Team Championship and defending it throughout the tour before dropping the titles to Crusher Wilkes and Bobby O'Martin on the last night. After the tour ended, Waters asked Strickland to open a new promotion with him in the United Kingdom. Strickland turned down his mentor, looking to return to the States. The two suffered a falling-out over the disagreement and Strickland did not speak to his mentor for several years. In 1984, Strickland returned to the Texas territory, quickly earning the Texas State Championship. This title reign in a major territory earned Strickland a meeting with the front office of the International Wrestling Alliance. They wanted to bring Strickland aboard and put the power of the promotion behind him. Strickland quickly accepted and by the middle of 1985, he was one of the IWA's top stars, touring all over the United States. In 1986, Strickland was scheduled to shift his home base to Southern Championship Wrestling where the Southern fans really disliked Strickland and his "upper crust" attitude. Strickland competed all over the South for the majority of the year, taking part in bloody wars with local favorite Terry Saunders. A 60 minute draw on Thanksgiving night over the Southern Heritage Title earned many Match of the Year votes in '86 despite not being the Main Event of the show. With the arrival of 1987, Strickland became the centerpiece of SCW as owner Jim Somers expressed interest in taking the company beyond its territory into a worldwide powerhouse. Strickland struck out on behalf of Somers to try and secure talent deals worldwide. He did month-long tours in Mexico, Japan, and even made amends with his mentor during a tour of the United Kingdom. As 1987 drew to a close, Strickland won the Southern Heavyweight Title on Thanksgiving Night and pledged to defend it against any and all comers. Christmas night saw him have to live up to that claim when his mentor, Wilbur Waters, showed up unannounced and challenged Strickland for a title match. Waters executed a brutal game plan that night, bloodying his protege badly, and ultimately winning the title with a shot from a steel chair to the head. The fans were rabid at what they saw and when an injured Strickland made his return in March of '88, he found himself in the unique position of being a fan favorite for the very first time. Somers and SCW put everything they had behind a lengthy Waters/Strickland feud as the promoter made plans to launch a worldwide promotion - planning a tour of the United Kingdom with Waters/Strickland on top. But on Labor Day of '88, Somers died and those plans died with him. Strickland was stunned. As SCW took the rest of 1988 off, Strickland tried to convince Somers' son, Michael, to follow his father's plans but Michael wasn't having any of it. Instead, he pulled SCW back to the bare minimum, pulling back within their old territory. A furious Strickland led a revolt against Michael Somers, splitting the roster in half and bolting to create a new promotion - International Championship Wrestling. Strickland, as owner and operator of ICW, immediately launched the planned United Kingdom tour with himself an Wilbur Waters on top. They feuded all over the UK, drawing big houses everywhere they went, and ICW proved an instant success. When Strickland returned to the United States, he went on a talent buying spree, picking up major talent additions from all over the country. ICW thrived as a promotion for several years, using Strickland's relationships throughout the industry as the base for big shows and big talent arrangements. Strickland's work in Japan brought several top heavyweights from the Land of the Rising Sun to America for the first time where they were huge hits. A showdown between Strickland and Yuji Gato drew 30,000 fans to a stadium in San Francisco as Strickland continued to push the boundaries of his territory out further and further. With his sights on becoming the biggest promotion in wrestling, Strickland declared open war on his old promotion, SCW, in 1992. He frequently ran shows in SCW's territory, driving to drive them out of business with the same talent that he had picked off their roster in years prior. A big stadium show in Atlanta saw Strickland bring back one of SCW's most famed tag teams - the Rock And Roll Connection - to face one of ICW's best tag teams - The British Bruisers in the first ever ICW scaffold match. ICW drew a huge house and SCW's days appeared to be numbered. But SCW held strong and kept fighting. They expanded their own territory, moving into areas that ICW had started to ignore during their outward push. It was a war that neither side seemed able of winning as they traded territory holds back and forth. However, on the 4th of July in 1994, Strickland was involved in a bar fight and was hospitalized as a result with a broken leg. Many in the industry speculated that the bar fight was no coincidence and that rumors of a "hit" being put out on Strickland were true. Strickland's injury hit ICW hard as he had been the top star for years for the promotion. His attempts to shift off onto the other top guys had failed and Strickland attempted an ill-advised early comeback on Christmas night, making the leg injury worse. With 1995 on the horizon, ICW was on the ropes. Strickland was approached by Michael Somers with an offer to buy out ICW in its entirety - an offer that would make Oliver Strickland a very rich man for the rest of his life. Strickland reluctantly accepted the deal, selling his company to the man he'd split it off from. As part of the deal, Strickland returned to SCW rings in 1995. He quickly won the Southern Heavyweight Title again and things seemed back to normal for the man from Connecticut. However, on Thanksgiving night of 1995, Strickland's life changed forever. On that night, he was scheduled to face a young rookie named Seth Hart who wrestled under a mask with the name "Starfire." Starfire was an up and coming star that the office was very high on and some discussion had been given to having Strickland drop the title that night. Strickland was adamant against it as Hart had not paid his dues yet in his opinion. He thought it was too early and refused to do it. But on that night, Michael Somers had other ideas. Seth Hart was kept away from the arena that night and NCAA wrestling champion Bobby Cain was brought in under the mask. Cain had no problem pinning an unaware Strickland's shoulders to the mat in just over a few minutes and ripping the title off him. An irate Strickland destroyed the ringside area and went to the locker room looking for Somers who had fled the building. A humiliated Strickland left the arena that night, never to return to SCW. Humiliated, Strickland watched as SCW television painted him as a joke who got destroyed by the young rookie who was prancing around on television with his title. SCW was changing, trying to evolve to face new challenges from the new national powerhouses like the EMWC and IIWF. Strickland wanted no part of this new wrestling game despite offers from both national promotions. He fled to the United Kingdom, working for three years there with his old friend. As 1999 came to a close, Wilbur Waters died of cancer and Strickland found himself alone again. At nearly forty years old, Strickland debated calling it a career but a big money offer from Japan pulled him back in. He worked in Japan for Total Japan Pro Wrestling until 2003 when a knee injury sidelined him. At this point, with all the money that he'd ever need in his bank account, Strickland officially retired. Upon coming home to the United States, he was repeatedly honored with ceremonies and interviews. He made guest appearances for local promotions to his home in Connecticut but never agreed to anything for the bigger companies. In 2007, he attempted to restart ICW but found a poor economy waiting to sabotage his efforts. He relocated to Texas in 2009, taking a chance in opening a wrestling school in Amarillo with another old friend, Terry Shane Jr. It is in 2011, at the age of fifty years old, that Oliver Strickland finds himself wanting to wear championship gold with honor and dignity one more time before the end of his career. Embittered by how the Southern Heavyweight Title was stripped off his waist, Strickland walks into the AWA with rage and anger surrounding everything he does. But make no mistake, the talent that Strickland possesses makes him a very dangerous threat to any title he sets his sights on. |
