I seem to remember it used to be a big thing in Japan for tag team champions to occasionally vacate their titles and then enter the organization's annual tournament to defend it. This seemed to go on a lot in All Japan, where during the first six years of the Unified World Tag Team Title, the champions near the time of the Real World Tag League would always vacate and then enter the tournament to try to win them back. You never see champions in e-feds do this. Might be a fun angle to run if someone was willing to do it. Could have the tag team titles (which it seems you have yet to upgrade to World titles to go with the single title) go up for grabs in the Stampede Cup, giving it an extra boost in importance to the people participating in it. Or not... just tossing it out there. |
