OREGON STATE ATHLETIC COMMISSION LIFTS BAN ON PROFESSIONAL WRESTLER PORTLAND, OR -- For six years, professional wrestler Matthew Mangham, better known by his ring name Bang Bang Mangum, has been banned from competing in professional wrestling in the United States following a brutal assault on a fellow competitor that left him hospitalized and in intensive care back in 2006. In his most recent attempt to appeal the ban, Mangham found an unexpected ally... Old-School Wrestling president Michael Ice, who had the legal team representing the Alliance of Professional Wrestling compile an extensive report claiming the act of violence which took place was scripted and that Mangham's actions and expressive physical elements were his constitutional rights as a performer. On December 23, 2012, Mangham and Ice received an early Christmas present when the state athletic commission agreed to settle under the terms that Ice "claim full responsibility for Mangham's future actions." This, obviously, led to speculation that Mangham would be signed to Old-School Wrestling... which Ice quickly confirmed via phone interview. "We have indeed signed Bang Bang Mangum to a contract... but absolutely not," Ice stated when asked whether Mangham would be a featured performer in Old-School Wrestling. "The public nature of APW's involvement with his appeal was not my intention. I believe in second chances... I've been given many myself. I felt Matthew deserved a second chance as well, and I do see potential in his abilities. But we did aim for discretion here, as we only helped Mangham become eligible to compete back on his home shores... we haven't even promised him a full-time contract yet." Ice went on to confirm that Bang Bang Mangum has been signed to an OSW tryout contract, but declined comment on what inspired his interest in Mangum's appeal, as Mangum was not a member of OSW during its first incarnation. However, the wrestling star did offer his thoughts on having to compete in a tryout match while other less proven stars were being given guaranteed contracts. "I'll knock the piss and tar outta whoever they line up in front of me. I don't care much whether they've been rasslin' for ten years or ten days, whether they're from El Paso or Arkansas, whether they're seven feet tall or they weigh two cents short of a hundred dollar bill, amigo. I ain't lookin' to become some feel good story or lift little kiddies up on my shoulders and signin' autographs, ya hear me? I'm here for one reason and one reason only, I'm lookin' to fight. I bleed this business and I'll knock my own mother's skull off her shoulders if it means it gets me one step closer to becoming the first OSW Champion." The 22-page document presented by Ice's team extolled the theatrical content of live professional wrestling events, the respect Mangum has for his competitors, and the rigorous training he undergoes. It also rejected the violence as his essential message. When asked about the prior assault charges Mangum stated, "Look, we all know what we sign up for when we step 'tween them ropes. If ya think I'm the kinda guy that aims to win with hip tosses and elbow drops then ya need to get'cher glasses fixed and yer noggin' checked out, hombre. I ain't gonna fill yer ears up with a bunch of bullpucky 'bout cleanin' up my act or strut out in my best bib and tuckers and pretend I'm some'em I ain't. I hurt people, hoss. I hurt em' bad. That's what I'm here for, that's what they pay me to do." ### OOC: Two more matches will be announced via press release today, and a full lineup will be coming out this evening most likely.
