Blue is gonna make a poll now, so he can blame all of us when we vote for a dumb option. :spam:

I agree with Wallie and Rob, focus on the teams that you already have rather than pad out to 16 or more. If that doesn't seem like enough matches and/or there's a concern some teams may have a minimal showing, maybe have a special losers' bracket for a second chance to get into the final.

I'm not saying Blue should pad the field out with filler teams just to make it 16, but if there was enough interest from enough handlers to have a tournament field of 16 teams, why not?

So I guess the question wouldn't be how should you do this, but how many handlers/teams actually want to be a part of the tournament.

But the thing that made the Crockett Cup special was that it was a tag team tournament, not "a tournament for tag teams". That difference is not semantics! It means that the tournament was so important that guys like Magnum TA and Ronnie Garvin and Dusty Rhodes and Nikita Koloff would team up to try and win in it.

Our tag team division is currently so weak that, if you don't have some singles powerhouse dream teams forming to participate, then I would question whether there's any value in doing the tournament at all.

Gaaah, I hate agreeing with Joe.

I think people forget that the Stampede Cup was actually one of the reasons the AWA exists. After years of John and I trying to get a gigantic Crockett Cup-esque tag tournament off the ground, the AWA gave me my window to do it.

As much as it pains me to say it, Joe's right. It's not just about full-time tag teams. The Cup is about those cameo teams and those "superpower" (pun intended) teams as much as it is about the full-time teams.

So, I think that takes an 8-team tournament out of the running. 16 would be a minimum for me. The idea of doing 24 again seems a bit much right now as much as I enjoyed doing it last time - even with the first round in "highlight" form. But a 16 team tourney seems doable. Sixteen teams over two nights should be workable, I think... I hope... maybe!

Don't worry, Terry will still respect you in the morning.

If so, I can truly say there's a first time for everything.

Blue Burnout is also something to look at. he did that monster BST, then SuperClash, now this?

Base your tourney size on your number of matchwriters, and get over the "must write them consecutively" thing. Is my advice.

I will write for it. So there's one.

Blue is like the Doozers of Fraggle Rock. He LOVES work! If you make things easier on him, then you are cruelly stealing laughter from his life.

If it's a 16 teamer, then Night 1 should be a special AWA All Access in summary form.

And match writers need to appear. I volunteer for Shaw/Langseth 2, in the Woodshed. Wait...

Goddamn you, Buse. :chairbash:

Of course, this whole debate is just a smokescreen to divert attention from the fact that Petrow/Watkins has given Blue writers block.

Then give some breath between SC and the Stampede Cup. Heck, even use the Stampede Cup for the Anniversary Show.

Time has not been on my side as of late. I thought being home sick for a few days would open up a window but with the holidays and the final project for my class being due last night, I just haven't had a ton of time free to do anything.

The match is in progress... I can give you that much.

Perhaps surprisingly, I'm nearing the end of Petrow/Watkins. Andy has graciously offered to write our tag title match as well. That leaves me to write the Barbed Wire match, the Ladder match, the six man tag, and the World Title match.

It actually sounded a lot better in my head until I wrote it down. Crapweasels!

I'd help, but I am off to the cabin in the woods (well, Whitefish) until after New Year.

More side discussion while I write...

I'm thinking of bringing back Awards Night for early 2013 but basing it off of voting that we do as a group instead of waiting for the JTF Awards to come out.

Thoughts?
