Something about watching the first season of Justified got me thinking about the Von Erichs and Freebirds again. Seriously, isn’t it about time we got something going?

As I see it, there are seven roles.

The Von Erichs: Texas wrestling royalty

Fritz - this would be a very limited role. The aging patriarch. Still tough as nails, but more there as a mouthpiece, to introduce his boys to the world. Might occasionally get involved in a big match (maybe subbing for one of the injured boys?), but not really an active wrestler, or even a manager Just there to add occasional color.

David - The oldest son. Has his dad’s toughness. Seen as the person to lead the brothers, though not a leader as much as a motivator. Gets his brother’s fired up. Is the best traveled of the brothers. But, his laconic attitude leads to his getting overshadowed by his flashier brothers. Which sits well with him, he’s happy just to be there and have the chance to kick some ass. (I have kind of a vision for this one. I think I’m going to reserve it for myself)

Kevin - the middle brother. Has a blander personality than his brothers, but makes up for that in the ring. Is a spectacular high flyer. Dazzles people with what he can do. Also surprisingly handy in a brawl. Plus (and this is vital), he wrestles barefoot.

Kerry - the youngest, the heart throb. The modern day warrior. The men respect him, the boys want to grow up to be him, and all the ladies want him. Gets mobbed on the way to the ring. Tough, despite his good looks. The real golden child, an all around gifted athlete. The future superstar who’ll likely eclipse his brothers. Also, Kerry comes out to Rush’s “Tom Sawyer.” Like Kevin wrestling barefoot, this is not negotiable.

Of course, all the boys are versed in the Claw. Their dad still has that incredible hand strength, and can bend quarters in half.

The Freebirds - sleazy Southern Rockers. (Or the 2011 equivalent)

The very antithesis of the all American brothers. They drink Jack Daniels, they party all night and they still manage to kick ass in the ring. And they probably only own clothing made from the Confederate Flag.

Michael Hayes - the mouth. An impossibly wild badboy whose charisma makes the women scream and the little girls cry in fury. Always the instigator. Backed up by...

Terry Gordy - A big, bully. Also a wrestling prodigy. Would probably go further if he weren’t saddled with his team mates, but he’s loyal to them. He’s the muscle behind the mouth, the big man who makes sure that Michael’s mouth never lands him in a jam that he can’t get out of. The sort of guy who’d break your neck just for looking at him wrong.

Buddy Roberts - the sleazy veteran, also something of the comic foil, the one who gets the humiliation the fans want all the Freebirds to suffer. Raspy voiced and completely batshit crazy. Has a bit of a small man’s complex. Kinda like Joe Pesci in Goodfellas.

So, this calls for five handlers. Six if someone wants to play Fritz.

Brian Bell and I would be up for playing two of the Von Erichs (probably Kerry and Kevin since it appears Dave wants David)

All right, so now we have the brothers, and Don wants to play Gordy.

So, now we need a Hayes and a Roberts.

Clearly Picky was born to play Hayes...

He runs every other character by that name, after all.

Don's Gordy has to fight Jackson Haynes for it.

Unless Jackson Haynes would like to step into that role for this bit...in which case I could step to the side or fill one of the other roles...

Fair is fair, after all.

I'd like this to fall under I Make 'Em rules. If someone bails in mid-angle, we reserve the right to replace them using the same character.

Just a warning for those who think they'll "give it a shot" and then just take off if it's not working out.

that actually makes me feel better about the whole thing, tbh.

It'll make it flake-proof.

I dunno, Jackson Haynes is like Gordy in a different period of his life. He wouldn't ever be caught wearing a pink cowboy vest, for instance.

The pink hat and sequined vest are key.

I'm good with this as well.
