TRIVIA QUESTION #11 - Blue mentions Michaelson's "bum back" in this promo. Who gave Michaelson that "bum back?" -Narcissus...aka Colt Patterson. TRIVIA QUESTION #12 - This is a freebie. Pick your favorite match in Stampede Cup history and explain why. -Violence Unlimited vs Kentucky's Pride. Loved the spot where Morton gave City Jack the Oklahoma Stampede. It holds a special place in my heart for being the first time any of my characters ever defeated City Jack. TRIVIA QUESTION #13 - Joe Petrow wore a mask during his AWA debut. What was the name of that character? -El Super Gecko TRIVIA QUESTION #14 - Another freebie. If you were booking, where would Jim Watkins go from here? -Old guy legend guest spots, a'la Mick Foley. TRIVIA QUESTION #15 - Who did Marcus Broussard defeat to become the first AWA National Champion? -Mark Shaw TRIVIA QUESTION #16 - Robert Donovan held the LWC Twin Pistols Tag Titles with what member of the AWA? -Bobby Taylor TRIVIA QUESTION #17 - Alex Martinez paid tribute to The Gremlin in a spot in this match. In EMWC 2.0, they were teammates. What was the name of their team and who was the third member? -The Kings of Wrestling. Chris Courtade TRIVIA QUESTION #18 - What band's t-shirt was Alex Martinez wearing in this match? -Judas Priest TRIVIA QUESTION #19 - Bucky tells Blue that he and Gordon were "working in Atlanta" during the E's heyday. What company were they working for? -Southern Championship Wrestling TRIVIA QUESTION #20 - Freebie. Was the first ever AWA barbed wire match in alignment with the AWA's "feel"? Did it go too far? -I don't think it really exceeded any level of violence that matches with Ebola Zaire or even the Watkins/Petrow match earlier already did. It just seemed a bit weird to have such a gimmicky hardcore match, but then again, we had a ladder match later on too. Now, if it was a flaming table match or something... |

TRIVIA QUESTION 1: Daniel Spreadbury himself, IIWF czar, coined the term after the EMWC vs. IIWF championship match on an episode of An Evening To The Extreme in early 98, I believe. Because it seemed like something he would do to pop a rating. And what with Scott Steiner just turning, Big Poppa Buyrate it is. |

I only disagree with this comment solely on the fact that the match felt so much more meaningful being it was an AWA event. I read the spots with much more enthusiasm because it was so out of character for the fed. -Captain Obvious |

The home stretch... We went backstage to Sharif and Supernova. This was a segment that I asked Jer and Bob to do at the very last second (thanks, gents!) to discuss November being sent to the hospital and being unable to compete in the six man tag... ...which was next! The six man tag is the final match on my list of matches that I thought should have been crazy over but there was something missing. I'm not sure what was missing here. Maybe Petrow/Watkins took some of the steam away from it. Maybe we made a mistake not having Langseth speak except for the final promo. Maybe it was the lack of hype around the mystery partners. But honestly, we didn't really know who the partners would be. We had some loose ideas but it wasn't locked in stone. I know a lot of people were expecting some big surprise here - which is one of the reasons I started poking around for some kind of surprise for the show. We knew we had a smaller surprise... but nothing crazy huge. This was another one that I decided to go shorter on because I thought the level of interest didn't support something ginormous. The inspiration for Doyle as the third man was one of my favorite matches from Wrestlemania 3 - the debut of Danny Davis as a wrestler in a six man tag with the Harts, the Bulldogs, and Tito. The original thought was to have either Jacobs or Stanton under the hood but Doyle made much more sense to me. I honestly don't have a lot to say about the match. I thought it was fun. I thought it achieved its goal. I'm still disappointed that the first match back for Langseth after all the hype surrounding Westwego fell flat. Really liked the visual on the Marley turn. The super kick on Supernova who is in mid-Solar Flare... I can "see" that one clear as day in my mind. The match ends with Royalty stealing the win, unveiling Doyle, and then dishing out a beatdown on 'Nova and Sharif. Whether or not Marley is with Royalty now is left unclear. TRIVIA QUESTION #21 - If Supernova is the AWA equivalent of beach bum Sting, who was the AWA equivalent of Dark Crow Sting? TRIVIA QUESTION #22 - Honesty time (and a freebie)... who did YOU think was the third member of each team? TRIVIA QUESTION #23 - Between the EMWC and the AWA, name all of the stables that Mark Langseth has been a part of. We cut back to the locker room area where Robert Donovan is explaining why he buried the knife in the back of the Lynches... and promises some family of his own. Looking forward to that... a lot. This angle/feud may be one of the most anticipated things coming in 2013 for me. Back to the ring and it's Ladder Match time. I was far less nervous about our first Ladder Match than I was our first Barbed Wire match... but I still was hesitant. I wasn't sure I could find the right balance of old school ladder match and the modern day TLC or Money In The Bank bumpfests that we're used to seeing now. During the early planning stages, we had discussed making it more along the lines of HBK/Razor than anything modern. Not sure I hit that goal but I tried. I felt a lot of pressure in writing this match. There were a lot of elements at play here - keeping the LH title strong, late show positioning, history-making stipulation - but perhaps the biggest was that everyone could see that of all the matches on this show... of all the feuds on this show... the one that was the strongest was this one and that was ALL thanks to Wug and Rob. I felt like I owed them something special here. I also needed to find a way to make it seem as dangerous as the Barbed Wire match so... "BW: We absolutely could. On the surface, you might think a ladder match is not as dangerous as a barbed wire match but you’d be wrong - dead wrong. You take two men who dislike one another as much as Dave Bryant and Glenn Hudson do... and then you stick a wood and metal ladder in there with them to beat each other up with. THEN you tell them to get the title they want, they gotta climb that ladder and hope the other guy doesn’t knock ‘em ten to fifteen feet down to the mat over and over and over again. The barbed wire match might cut someone up like you wouldn’t believe but this thing is a career-shortening moment for sure... and with two veterans like Bryant and Hudson, career-shortening could equal career-ending, daddy." Unlike the Barbed Wire match, I wanted this to start fast and get going in a hurry. With a ladder match, there's going to be a lot of selling, laying around, and slow climbing later so I wanted to get some action in immediately. Hudson taking the fight to the floor, tipping the table over onto Bryant, etc. One of my favorite things about ladder matches are getting to do some crazy spots ala Shelton Benjamin. Hudson springboarding to land on a rung above Bryant to try and get to the title is a perfect example. LOVE the teeter totter spot. Makes me cringe every time I read it. TRIVIA QUESTION #24 - What 80s rock anthem is quasi-quoted in this match? I also really like the spot where Bryant uppercuts the hinge to make the ladder off-balance and then shoves it backwards, crushing Hudson under the ladder. Wug stratted for the sunset power bomb so I was glad I could find a spot for that. I have to admit. The silver dollars makes me laugh. I had a real hard time finding a finish that I liked. But I kept coming back to how Bryant won the title... and how it was just too good to use an old school finish to a modern kind of match. Everyone would be expecting some ungodly bump... so let's go simple. Silver dollar fist to the jaw, shove him off... grabs the belts. TRIVIA QUESTION #25 - What titles did Dave Bryant hold in the EMWC? TRIVIA QUESTION #26 - Who was Glenn Hudson's partner in the legendary Nine Inch Males? One final promo before the Main Event... and if my decision wasn't already hard enough, Terry decides to put the screws to me one more time and knock out a killer promo that really makes me want to switch the title. TRIVIA QUESTION #27 - Who was the first EMWC Universal Champion? Oh... and one more "final" promo with Stevie laying down a challenge for Juan to come to the ring at SNW to confront him. The World Title match is upon us. I truly believe that we left no stones unturned in discussing booking possibilities for this match. There were scenarios where Monosso won, scenarios where Wright won. I don't want to go into specifics in case we decide to use one at some point but Terry, Jer, and Andy will testify that this one really stuck in my head and I was having a really hard time finding something that I liked. A big part of that was this constant search for a "surprise" of some kind. I had convinced myself that the show would be shit on unless there was some kind of earth-shattering surprise at the end of it. Despite people like Jer and Wallie trying to convince me otherwise, I thought I needed "something." At some point, I got past that. But I still had trouble with this match. I believed that Monosso NEEDED to retain. Not so much for the character or the angle or anything like that but I felt that if - after a sixty-four man tourney that went all summer - the World Title changed hands essentially the first night out, it would damage the title. I was strongly convinced that the title needed to stay where it was. Not that I didn't have plenty of really good angles and awesome promos that would support a Wright World Title victory but... yeah. I will not deny that up until the very last moment, I strongly considered going the other way with the match result. That's how close this one was to me. So, I started writing with no idea how the match would end. It's Monosso so it needs to be a bit out of control. I was enjoying Wright as a hard-hitting badass so I went with that as well. I knew Monosso, in his physical state, had to work from under for most of the match to be credible. Early on, Gordon comments that Monosso will want a short match. And that was part of the thought process. How short of a match could I get away with for a SuperClash World Title Main Event versus how long of a match could I get away with without making it look insane that Monosso was still physically functional? TRIVIA QUESTION #28 - Name every SuperClash Main Event. Extra credit goes to anyone who can name some Showtime Main Events as well. I had Monosso use eyerakes to break submission holds, showing a mix of desperation, a lack of knowledge of how to escape them any other way, and that Monosso's still the same sumbitch he's always been... just a little different. Early on, we have Monosso and Preston face off... might as well, right? Everyone knows it's coming so why hide from it? Wright takes advantage of the Preston distraction to start working the ribs - starting the story of "Is Wright having Preston interfere without interfering?" as well as starting the tease for the Fat Tuesday. The Flair Flop to the floor made for a cool visual. Then we get the blatant Preston interference which gets him booted from ringside. At this point, I decided that too much games with Preston would take away from the match so I kicked him out to get down to one-on-one. The Monosso no-sells chops spot came from a Kobashi/Doc match I was watching while writing. Really liked the King Kong kneedrop near fall leading to the crucifix elbows. Again, Monosso shows he's no saint by pulling up the floorpads ala Hogan vs Andre at WM3. The Descent Into Madness connects... but Wright rolls to the ramp. There's some speculation over whether he did it consciously or it was sheer momentum. He goes for it again on the ramp but the ribs are too banged up and he has to abandon the idea. The Fat Tuesday off the apron was a sick spot in my head... still like it. Monosso comes up bleeding from the mouth after it. Wright tries to take advantage by hitting a second in the middle of the ring but Monosso rakes the eyes desperately to get out and counter with a lariat. And that... is where I stopped. If you notice, the last match took... a while. Part of the reason for that is that I spent a long damn time standing around the house trying to come up with a finish that I liked. I was going back and reading all the proposed scenarios... considering all my options... and I do mean ALL of them. First, Preston had to come out and play a role. After all the hype about Preston coming back for this match, he HAD to be out there, right? The Cobra Clutch Crossface needed to AT LEAST be attempted. That was part of the story surrounding Preston's return so... By this time, I've decided that Monosso's winning... so now it becomes a matter of how. Does Preston accidentally club Wright with the chair? Does he do it intentionally? Does the distraction of Preston arguing with the ref cost Wright the win? I bumped the ref here to tease that something dastardly was going to happen. Wright goes for the Crossface but as soon as he fails to hook it in, Preston comes charging in with the chair... But Todd makes the save! I felt that Todd had stayed away for long enough considering his protege was causing all this ruckus. So, Todd shows up, stops the chairshot, starts to argue with his student... ...who drops him with a right hand. But Monosso clears him out. Wright gets one more shot at it... but Monosso hits a Billion Dollar Bomb out of nowhere to seal the deal with Todd standing guard over the pinfall. Big win for the champ... ...but here comes Royalty! The new and improved Royalty with Larry Doyle AND his new Blonde Bombers. TRIVIA QUESTION #29 - What were the names of the ORIGINAL Blonde Bombers? Sharif and 'Nova come to help. Preston pulls out Todd and posts him. All hell is breaking loose! Wait... did someone say "all hell is breaking loose"? "[As chaos reigns in the ring, we fade to a black screen. There’s a voice that can be heard... no visuals, just a single voice that is heavily distorted to make sure it can’t be identified.] “‘All hell has broken loose in Los Angeles’ says the voice we all trust to tell the truth.” [A soft chuckle.] “Royalty returns, re-arms, and prepares for war?” [A pause. We can hear the breathing - also digitally distorted.] “We promise you... they don’t know the meaning of the word. We have let you declare your kingdom. We have let you reign for a time. But your time amongst us is coming to an end, Royalty. It may not end tonight... or tomorrow... next week or next month... but we promise you that your end of days draws near.” [There’s a bit of a distorted squelch.] “Royalty believes they stand above all that they survey.” [One final pause.] “We believe that opinion is not... wise.” [Another soft chuckle.] “We’ll see you soon enough, Royalty. We promise.” [And with that ominous distorted chuckle, the audio too fades to black.]" And with that, so ends SuperClash IV. TRIVIA QUESTION #30 - A freebie. Who is the voice in question that ended the show? -- FIVE BONUS QUESTIONS - 31. I watched several matches over the past month for inspiration while writing. Name a participant in one of those matches. NOTE: You may NOT name anyone that I have listed on JTF. NOTE 2: Extra credit for those who can name an actual match I watched. 32. Name your favorite match from SuperClash IV and explain why. 33. What character are you most looking forward to in 2013? Why? 34. Where would you like to see SuperClash V occur? 35. From the current roster, who do you believe WILL be the next World Champion? Who do you believe SHOULD be the next World Champion? Thanks for playing! |

I'll take a stab: TRIVIA QUESTION #21 - If Supernova is the AWA equivalent of beach bum Sting, who was the AWA equivalent of Dark Crow Sting? - Cyrax TRIVIA QUESTION #22 - Honesty time (and a freebie)... who did YOU think was the third member of each team? - I really had no idea. So I'll go with Mr. Honeydew for Royalty. Which, in hindsight, Doyle TOTALLY should have been in the Dew outfit. TRIVIA QUESTION #23 - Between the EMWC and the AWA, name all of the stables that Mark Langseth has been a part of. - All I can remember is Foundation, Redemption and Royalty. TRIVIA QUESTION #25 - What titles did Dave Bryant hold in the EMWC? - World Tag Team Titles, TV Title TRIVIA QUESTION #26 - Who was Glenn Hudson's partner in the legendary Nine Inch Males? - Rob James TRIVIA QUESTION #27 - Who was the first EMWC Universal Champion? - "Superstar" Steve Rogers TRIVIA QUESTION #28 - Name every SuperClash Main Event. Extra credit goes to anyone who can name some Showtime Main Events as well. - SuperClash I & II: Stevie Scott vs. Juan Vasquez - SuperClash III: Calisto Dufresne vs. Supernova The following are educated guesses/trying hard to remember - Showtime I: Steve Rogers vs. Mud Monster - Showtime V: Kevin Slater vs. Curtis Hansen - Showtime VI: Mark Langseth vs. Eddie Van Gibson - Showtime VII: Mark Langseth vs. Alex Martinez - Showtime IX: Caleb Temple vs. Adam Rogers vs. Chris Courtade vs. Devon Case TRIVIA QUESTION #29 - What were the names of the ORIGINAL Blonde Bombers? - "Love Machine" Johnny Nova & "Beautiful" Bobby Baldwin (off the original IME, YTE app) TRIVIA QUESTION #30 - A freebie. Who is the voice in question that ended the show? - For reasons mentioned before, I've got Percy Childes. Though I don't feel that great about it. 31. I watched several matches over the past month for inspiration while writing. Name a participant in one of those matches. NOTE: You may NOT name anyone that I have listed on JTF. NOTE 2: Extra credit for those who can name an actual match I watched. - Vader, vs. Cactus Jack 32. Name your favorite match from SuperClash IV and explain why. - Definitely in the minority here I am sure, but I'll take RyGunn vs. The Rave because it was a super-hot opener that exceeded all expectations. Most everything else, you expected good things. This one, you really didn't. 33. What character are you most looking forward to in 2013? Why? - The trio of Skywalker Jones (face turn has to be coming at some point just because I can totally see crowds being drawn to him because of his flamboyance, workrate, mic skills and Buford P. Higgins), Alphonse Green, and Terry Shane III. I want them all to earn the right to be elevated by SC V. 34. Where would you like to see SuperClash V occur? - Back to Dallas; or in the somewhere in the new territory AWA buys up. 35. From the current roster, who do you believe WILL be the next World Champion? Who do you believe SHOULD be the next World Champion? - Well, Wright is hotter than a two-dollar pistol, but I feel that the next World Champ should be someone who's been in the AWA for a longer period of time. I expect a Monosso heel re-turn at some point, probably with the belt as he becomes more and more desperate to keep it…so what face would be the guy? I really don't know the answer to either question because there are so many potential options. |

Since a lot of the actual trivia questions have been answered (and I just don't know the answers to others!) I went with some of the freebies. TRIVIA QUESTION #14 - Another freebie. If you were booking, where would Jim Watkins go from here? I instantly thought of Watkins/Craven. I can't really picture Watkins feuding with an up-and-comer because really there is no point but I can picture sort of a Foley/Funk type of feud between the two. My scenario would be for Watkins to come out on SNS and thank the fans who supported him and that he is sorry for the depths of which he let himself sink too in order to take out Petrow but it was a neccessary evil within him that he needed to reach into. Craven interrupts and goads him, saying that he always knew Watkins was capable of this kind of behavior, that he knows that Petrow was an excuse for him to act out and unleash the real "Big Jim" that he has been hiding away from everyone. That he knows about his past (this would be key ingredient, Craven unveiling a dark past of Watkins without it being cheesy) and that Craven is going to expose him for who he really is. Big Jim tries to laugh it off and save face but Craven promises him that the truth was bound to come out. This also leaves the door open for in-character Blue to weeve himself into this if he chooses. TRIVIA QUESTION #20 - Freebie. Was the first ever AWA barbed wire match in alignment with the AWA's "feel"? Did it go too far? No, I thought it was just the right amount of blood and bravado. TRIVIA QUESTION #21 - If Supernova is the AWA equivalent of beach bum Sting, who was the AWA equivalent of Dark Crow Sting? A face painted Juan Vasquez or a recently retooled Rick Marley! That is..if I HAD to pick from our current roster. TRIVIA QUESTION #22 - Honesty time (and a freebie)... who did YOU think was the third member of each team? I really thought the Royalty member was going to be Stevie Scott. I was very surprised he didn't show up on either team or in any sort of match for SuperClash. After it was announced that the winner would be on one of the teams I thought we were going to get: Sultan/Nova/Novy vs. Langseth/Cooper/Scott TRIVIA QUESTION #30 - A freebie. Who is the voice in question that ended the show? In a dramatic turn of events it's a female voice. That's all I can say! 31. I watched several matches over the past month for inspiration while writing. Name a participant in one of those matches. NOTE: You may NOT name anyone that I have listed on JTF. NOTE 2: Extra credit for those who can name an actual match I watched. Sabu/Abyss barbed wire (because I sent you a link!) for Craven/Martinez... 32. Name your favorite match from SuperClash IV and explain why. Hudson/Bryant. I knew after the work these guys put in that Blue would not want to disappoint them. I also felt like of all the matches, if Blue wanted to leave his mark on the show with a match of the year candidate this had the recipe to be it. It was a combination of great build up, great feud, and great match writing that made this one most memorable for me. And yes.. the silver dollar finish was fun old schoolishy perfect stuff. 33. What character are you most looking forward to in 2013? Why? Cop out answer...I'm just excited to keep things progressing with Rich in our TS3/Carver feud. It's rejuvenated both of us in this game and we're doing our best to lay down a solid foundation but not over plan/script it so we can leave enough room to shake things up on a week by week basis. Outside of that... I'm really CURIOUS to see where Supreme Wright goes from here. Does he continue feuding with Monosso? Does he branch off into another top tier feud? Looking forward too... Donovan's turn and how it plays out. I really like the beginning of how things went down at SuperClash and am really excited to see where it goes. 34. Where would you like to see SuperClash V occur? I'd like to see them continue to host SuperClash in historic e-w venues. Maybe it's Toronto if the UWF doesn't restart, maybe it's Portland, maybe it's the Great Lakes area. It would make sense that the AWA would want to go to "e-wrestling" hot beds to attract talent. 35. From the current roster, who do you believe WILL be the next World Champion? Who do you believe SHOULD be the next World Champion? Dave Cooper. I'm picturing a nice run of Monosso through the Stampede Cup and at the following PPV for it to be prime time for a title change and a chance to boost another character into the history pages that hasn't been a champ of another big fed (that I know of). Royalty will be red hot, having Langseth as a former National Champ and Cooper now as the current World Champ, would give them the perfect pedigree as THE force in the industry. Though it's hard to imagine someone not in the UA to take down Monosso. |
