Was looking at an e-mail from DGUSA yesterday and saw a new match they're going to be offering up. It is:

-The match will be 2/3 Falls.
-The 1st fall will have strictly enforced tags with two referees to control the action.
-The 2nd fall will be Dragon Gate style with no tags needed.
-The 3rd fall, if needed, will be have tables, ladders and chairs legal.

Now, it got me thinking. Are there any kind of "new" matches that we could use that would fit within our style? The above would work...sorta.

Any other cool gimmick match ideas to keep in mind as we head towards the Labor Day show, Homecoming, and SuperClash?

Seeing how we haven't even had anyone go through a table yet, any TLC style matches would seem dubious.

I made up a gimmick match in IWF/WOW that they used a time or two after I left (I think) called a War For Territory match which is like the match you described in a way. It is a Falls Count Anywhere two-out-of-three falls match. The twist is that one fall must be won inside the ring and the other must be won outside the ring, in any order. Leads to a lot of possibilities.

And I would LOVE to see an AWA Unholy War. Just sayin'.

GAAAAAAH! The War For Territory gives me nightmares thanks to Dave and Showtime VI.

Refresh my memory on an Unholy War.

I had recently read about a tag team battle royal where you could eliminate by pin, submission, or over-the-top... but it had dodgeball rules where if your partner eliminates someone after you've been eliminated, you get to go back in. Sounds like it would be hard to keep track of but might be fun.

Unholy War started in UEW, but caught on because they were all great. Happened in various interfeds, RCW, PVW, and I think I/W. Maybe even UWF at one point, I don't recall... it became a fairly popular match type. Pretty much every Unholy War was awesome.

It is an 8-team gauntlet match with four teams in the ring at a time, no tags. There is no disqualification save for outside interference and falls count anywhere in the arena area... but only in the arena area. You can't go backstage, and noone but the team is allowed in the arena.

When one team is eliminated, the next randomly-drawn team comes out to take their place. The defending champions automatically get number 8. Continue until there is a winner.

Really? No one's seen any gimmick matches in an indy or something that made you think, "Huh. That might work okay in the AWA!"?!?

For instance, I've always thought an AWA Cibernetico would be a lot of fun.

And why are you hunting down new stip matches when you still haven't come through with this one?

Blind Stipulation Match:  There's two variations.  The basic is one where neither wrestler knows what the stipulation of the match is, and have to figure it out while the match is going on.

An example- Simon O'Neal took on Alex Martinez in a blind stipulation match.  Simon figured out first that the referee wasn't disqualifying anything, and proceeded to wallop Alex Martinez with a chair a dozen times before pinning him.  Unfortunately, he hadn't realized it was a Texas Death match, and by the time that was revealed Alex was pummeling Simon into a small and bloody smear into the mat.

Good lord, I love that idea.

It's completely the type of thing I can justify these days by going, "Well, Gagne or Jarrett would have booked it in a heartbeat so..."

I guaran-damn-tee you'll see me steal that one... likely before the year is out.

This. Because I like you to live up to your guaran-damn-tees!

Ehh... the Master's Mercy match kinda made me not feel the need to do this one anymore.

You know I'm with you on this one, Blue. A Torneo Cibernetico could be off the chain. You'd just have to find large enough teams to put together. And, of course, have a lot of patience to write it. I've seen some of CHIKARA's Ciberneticos and they're lots of fun. They sometimes run over an hour, but it feels like the time just flies right by when you're watching it. They ran a CHIKARA vs. ROH one last year, and it may have been the most fun yet.
