I find most IIWF "legends" are insanely overhyped. If you go back and read their rps, you'll see that it's nothing but a HUGE. GIGANTIC. EYEBURNING. wall of text followed by a fade to black. I guess Spreadsbury formatting the cards is the e-w equivalent of airbrushing an ugly girl for a magazine cover. :lol:

Gunnar Gaines' stuff has aged pretty badly.

For the life of me, I never understood the Ronnie D hype. EVER. Was it because he used ASCII in his ring entrance? Was anyone ever an actual fan?

Every wrestler ever pushed in NEO. PROVE ME WRONG.

And uhh...all those dudes that finished above me in the mid-years. Man, talk about overhyped and overrated. :beer:

Okay.

Since I didn't read much NEO, didn't think what I read was bad, and heard a whole lot of hate against NEO back in it's day... how can you be 'overrated'? Wouldn't everyone have to be gushing about how great they were for that term to apply?

For every post of hate, there was an equal post of undying love for NEO. As a matter of fact, several NEO wrestlers ended up in the top 10 or outright winning mid-year and end-year awards.

Me. Sort of.

Not because his character concept was all that original. It wasn't.

But on those occasions when he was motivated, Ronnie could write and write quite well. Now, of course, my personal bias is showing through as I'm thinking specifically of the Garneau Plate Memorial Tournament that I ran in the CIWF. He submitted a great RP for the first round and made it through to the second. Then he vanished (surprise, surprise) and ended up getting jobbed.

Overhyped? Yeah, I'd buy that. The reality didn't live up to the hype which was pretty excessive at times.

Overexposed? Based purely on his IRC presence, I guess I could believe that too.

Overrated? I'd say not, myself.

The stuf I remember most from Ronnie D was back in Fletch's NeCW when he joined and did tours of Canada cities and stuf fin his flashes.

I felt like he was really good then, but I was still learning more about the RSPWF community at that time. (96-97) IRC was something I was never much into until 99-01 or so....that leaves me out to consider him being overexposed.

There was a time when it seemed like Tommy Lionheart, Stevie Erickson and guys like that were in like every league. That is what I think of when I think of over exposure.

Yeah, once the wars ended and characters started going everywhere, I often wondered if it wasn't overrating and rather over hyping. They were everywhere, getting small pushes here and there and bcame over rated or what have you. Really it was just over hype and over exposure on almost every interfed character.

"Money Driven" Mike Sebastian.

Bear with me for a second, okay. I could not stand the handler but even before I had the displeasure of interacting with Duane I never saw what the big deal was about a character that never wanted to make his opponent look good, was about as generic as Wal-Greens brand cough medicine and had one of the worst match intros ever.

Then I had to deal with him and just did not like the handler in addition to thinking his character was not all that great.

You know who I think was pretty good, hindsight and all, Chris during his run with the Amazing Romanis (WWO only though; the whole Sabbat Justice thing was a bit too much for me).
Have I told you how much I loathe your continued existence today?

Exactly.

Oh yeah, Mike Sebastian. In fact...Strictly Business as a whole. Talk about two bad characters being overhyped, overexposed and overrated. First off, Sebastian was bland. But Andrew Tucker? The dude had this horrible southern accent that was beyond anything Chris Courtade ever had...but the character was from California! I think it was Santa Barbara or Long Beach. Horrible. Not only that, but their theme music as "Back dat azz up".

Yet, they had this incredibly long title run in EMWC. And I think William Craven tried to kill one of them with a katana. Their run was this huge, horrible mess that I'm sure no one wants to remember except for one of them getting superkicked with a watermelon on their head and JW Hardin broke Otto Verhoeven's neck for some reason involving them.

Reminder...this was considered the #1 tag team in e-w for a time. Yikes.
