Only because I want to be distracted right now. I read about Strictly Business on here as overrated or whatever. I just wanted to put them into perspective. They beat the Epitome of Cool for the EMWC tag team titles in August '99. At that time, EMWC was pretty much riding high as the place to be. That equated into E champions being labeled as great. Consider six months before that, the E had a great tag team division. Not solid, but great (Rich N' Infamous, Down Boys, ZS, Frat Boys, EoC to name a few). Most of those teams weren't around by that time, but the division was still considered strong in the E at the time. They had a few good programs. I think SB was decent. They were two characters created for singles runs thrown together as a means to get into EMWC. Jase and Duane did what they could. Ronnie D was a shinning example of "you can't smile enough or kiss enough babies" from a handler standpoint. He should be studied as how to get a run of the mill character over by sheer hype alone. I think my older stuff is better than anything recent (say, six years and earlier) because I don't see the motivation, excitement, and enthusiasm I had in 2000 and before. |

Sabin Rene Figaro was very overexposed. I remember Raekwon and Moo Kame (really stretching back) were also in a lot of feds. |

I just found this topic.. to answer this question. He wasn't very good. Not very good at all. And if memory serves, he was pushed to the moon because I think Rick Baptist handled him while running EWA. But I might be remembering incorrectly. It's been awhile since me EWA/LOOP days afterall. He later handled "Legacy" Paul Kiljoy in I-Slash who was MUCH better, and also a 2 time I-Slash champ when that meant something. However, I will say, that the Dark Destroyer was very good, probably the best writer in that loop.. even if he was a ripoff of like 20 actual wrestlers. Though I'm a mark for most things that Nelson wrote, so take my opinion on that with a grain of salt. The other I'd consider up there was Christian Kingsworth.. but Eric didn't handle him enough and probably hasn't handled at all since Jack Marlowe and "Idolizer" Trace Michaels. |

The Fraternity Boys? Really? Talk about two overrated, inebriated, intoxicated, saturated, hacks. "Oh, look, I'm writing a funny flash where I'm getting drunk and people are getting hit in the groin with footballs!" Where the hell's the talent in THAT?!? SIMPSONS DID IT! Seriously, they deserved to lose to the Phalanx. |

You could look at it like that, sure. But only the Frats can work in fly fishing into a RP and make it work. |

How was "Top Dog" Rick Styles omitted from this list? The guy was a pretty decent writer, but I felt the character itself way waaay overhyped/overrated. Maybe not overexposed, because I never saw him anywhere but UEW (and I think a brief stint in UWF, maybe?) Not taking away from the guy's writing at all though. Handler seemed alright from the few interactions I had with him. If I recall correctly, he got a lot of flack after Styles won some kind of award or something (someone could chime in with some back story here if they want. Think it was an RSPWF Top 200 spot or something.) Am I alone in thinking Styles was overrated? Kyle Backwood. Aiello gets a lot of slack, but I never had any beef with the guy. But I felt the character itself was poorly written and overhyped/overrated - mostly because he won the UWF World Title, actually. The character was extremely inconsistent. Liam Rogan (w/ Erin Erotikka or some such?) and Frankie Starz. Rosendorf and Starz were like the Vince Russo and Ed Ferrara of the e-wrestling world at one time. LMAO. God, RSPWF flashback, for real. Both characters were majorly overexposed, fa'sho. "Erotic" Erin McCoy. Erin's a cool chick, but even if she reads this, she'll have to admit the character was every fucking where at one point in time. And I'll probably catch some shit for this one, and I love me some Adam Griffin, but the Gremlin character never quite clicked for me either. Dunno! Loved some Chi Chi LeVaughn though, LOL... Oh wait! NYX DUNNE! C'mon, I know someone's got my back on that one... |

There was a year (99 maybe? I don't recall) when Rick Styles was #1 in the RSPWF top 200, and A-Mart, if I am remembering right, was number two. And there was quite a bit of outrage over Styles being number one. Which I never quite understood, I mean, there had to be enough people to vote for him for him to get there, so why was everyone so pissed? Styles was in UWF. I don't remember for how long. Here's a true story. I don't think Mark will care if I tell it now, since its been what, ten years since it happened? Mark was always looking for the next big shocker. And he also had a loyalty to UEW, even after he left the fed. Styles and Martinez were contending for the world titles in UWF and EMWC respectively in roughly the same time period. As everyone knows, I left UEW in a big huff over the double whammy of the armbar of doom and the backslide of death. But one day, Mark and I are talking in AIM, and I remark that we've both reached top contender status in our new feds, and Mark proposes the following to me: After we've both won the world titles (far from a foregone conclusion in either case, IMO), we should then go on the next UEW show and throw the world titles in the trash and declare our allegiance to UEW. Because, apparently, this would be the greatest thing ever. Obviously, I turned him down flat. Because one, no way in hell would I do that to Blue or EMWC, two because, well, I was still mad as hell about how my last days in UEW went down, and three, well, Blue lives just an hour or so away from me. But can you imagine if that had happened?
IIRC, it was Kieran Erotikka. And I actually rather liked "The Handler" Liam Rogan, though his handler (Rob Ican'tevenbegintotryspellinghislastname did have a tendency to, uh, "make waves." |

I at least give Frankie Starz props for being one of the very few people to make the transition from e-wrestling to wrestling. |

This thread is a pretty entertaining read as a I remember a lot of this from an outsider perspective as I was barely getting my feet wet in UWF, EMWC, and NEW when most of this went down. Over exposed to me were guys like the Gremlin and Courtade. There was absolutely nothing run with the characters they were both just over exposed from what felt like them being in so many feds at once and such a pivotal part of each fed they were in. It was great to see them eventually collide and work together in the E though. Spikyjim's downfall was his extremely long winded intros to his RPs. Coming from the NWC World I had to learn to cut down the RP length, intro, and back stories unrelated to wrestling. The handler himself was a really nice guy and stuck to why worked for him in other feds but was a tougher sell to some outside of the I-Slash world. I think Kinsey and Vasquez were getting to the over exposed point like Courtade/Gremlin a few years back but again it was from just being in the E, UWF, and RCW at what felt like was the same time and coincidentally the only Feds I was following. I don't blame guys though for having a main character and wanting to establish him in various Feds because feds come and go all the time and starting from scratch all the time can get frustrating. |

I wasn't Liam Rogan, that was Rob, who may have been the most clever e-wrestler in history. Everything he did was entirely by design...and he had more heat than anyone. At the time, we all thought he was the biggest cancer in all of e-wrestling. In retrospect, however, he was a genius. He had everyone so convinced that his "girlfriend" Janet was someone else, that Ivan Kolinski's handler actually hit on her during an IRC chat. |

To tell the truth, I don't actually remember that AIM conversation. I'm not saying it didn't happen, because it's totally something I would have suggested, but I don't actually recall it. But, you're right on two points, Dave, I always liked to do things for the shock value, and that would have been a biggie. . . . Oh, and to the guy who liked my writing but not the character, why not try some of the characters in The Rasner Effect? www.markrosendorf.com Btw, I've been known for giving e-wrestling handlers a huge discount for signed copies when they contact me direct. :-) |

Yeah, about the IIWF RP against Thunder... I'd put a lot into that feud, building it up in the IIeW, EMWC, and then bringing it to IIWF. I had my background with Spreadbury. He didn't like me, and he really didn't like me beng on his show, and he let me know about it. It wasn''t my best work, and it was kind of a fuck you to Dan, especially considering the level of animosity between EMWC (to which I was loyal) and IIWF at the time. Would I take it back? Yeah. But the match came out killer, Thunder got his well deserved victory over the Playboy, and all was well in e-wrestling land once again. |
