OOC: I'm pretty proud of this RP, so I figured why not share it? The title really has nothing to do with the subject matter within, except that half this RP is a training video, and half takes place on Mt. Washington in Pennsylvania. I couldn't think of anything better, but it's better than "Izumi vs. Hana", which I used for the fed boards. Hope you guys like it. -------------------------------------------------------- "First match back, and I'm going up against a woman who likes kicking people's heads off. And it just so happens, I'm coming off a neck injury that could have ended my career. I'm not complaining though, just being realistic. I have all the respect in the world for Hana Park, but I also know that her feet are registered deadly weapons. Which is why etra special training is required..." [We fade into a massive hangar that looks like it's been completely repurposed as a top of the line training facility. A caption at the bottom of the screen reads "The War Factory". Standing on a sea of training mats is the "Pure Heart Warrior" herself, Izumi Sato. She's clad in a hot pink sports bra and loose-fitting black shorts with hot pink trim.] IZUMI: Everybody knows about Omega Academy, where both our Pitt Champion Valkyrie Lange and my upcoming opponent Hana Park cut their teeth. But few know about this place, fondly known as The War Factory; and for good reason. Rather than opening its doors to the public, membership is by invitation only. Anyway... [Izumi turns to her left, gazing off-screen before turning back to the lens.] IZUMI: I've asked two of the War Factory's senior trainers to help me prepare for Hana Park. [On cue, in walk two women in their thirties. And for long-time women's wrestling fans, they should be instantly recognizable. Taking positions at either side of Izumi, the one on the left is shorter and has long jet-black hair. The one on the right is taller with dark brown and red highlighted shoulder-length hair. Two jagged scars crisscross her face, while a black eyepatch over her right eye. Izumi points left first.] IZUMI: Sonya Benedict is a tae-kwon-do black belt from Miami, coincidentally, is a retired eight year veteran of wrestling, and is the current reigning Lightweight Champion in a prominent MMA promotion. [We then cut to Sonya, standing alone on the mats.] SONYA: I'm going to teach Izumi how to defend herself against Hana's kicks from all angles. Once she learns the techniques, then we'll mix things up and work on her reaction time. [Cut back to the trio again, and Izumi points to the right.] IZUMI: Myra Benedict has a background in hapkido, shotokan karate, escrima, sayoc kali, kuk sool won, hwa rang do, as well as Brazilian jiu-jitsu. She's a thirteen year veteran of the ring, and also competes in MMA. [We then cut to Myra standing solo on the mats.] MYRA: Izumi has some knockout power in her hands, but she'll struggle with Park's kicking range. Once she knows how to block various attacks, I'll teach her how to evade, how to move inside and either take Hana down, or work her boxing. [We then cut to footage of Sonya teaching Izumi shield and spike techniques to defend against Hana's leg kicks. She then uses pads to swing at Izumi's legs, getting her used to defending those kicks. The shot then speeds up, showing techniques for other variations of leg, body, and head kicks.kicks. We cut back to Sonya standing alone.] SONYA: Izumi's a very fast learner. But now it's time we mix things up and really get her thinking on her feet. Once she stops thinking about techniques and starts reacting to the attacks that are coming in at her, she'll stand a far better chance against Miss Park's kicking game. [This time we cut to the two of them sparring, though Sonya's not striking with full power. At first Izumi struggles, concentrating on her technique to block low when Sonya goes high. Then blocks the body when Sonya goes low. This continues a bit, before speeding up. Eventually, Izumi starts reacting more than thinking, and is more and more able to block Sonya's attacks on the fly. We then cut back to Izumi, standing alone. She's soaked in sweat and breathing heavily.] IZUMI: Sonya's so quick, but no pain, no gain, right? [She can't hide the smile that spreads across her face.] IZUMI: I feel like I'm much more capable of facing Hana Park's devastating kicks now, but there's still so much more work to be done. Time for a short water break, then it's off to train with Myra. [We then cut to Myra.] MYRA: The difference here is, I'm not trained in tae-kwon-do, but rather a variety of other styles. So I'll be coming at Izumi with techniques that Sonya hasn't shown her, further reinforcing her need to think on her feet. That will come later though, when we have our sparring session. First come the techniques though. [Much like before, Myra showed Izumi a variety of ways to deal with low kicks first. One such technique was to block the kick then sweep the balancing leg to bring Myra down.with a punch to the face to follow it. She gave several different techniques, including the classic kick catch and dragon screw counter, to which Izumi embaraced that she hadn't thought of that. Head kicks were last, including Hana Park's knockout-inducing superkick, which Izumi was taught to duck or counter with Myra's classic leg capture suplex using Myra's forward momentum for the throw. We cut back to Izumi once more.] IZUMI: Training with the Benedicts has always been so rewarding. Today, preparing for my match with Hana Park, has been no different. But now for the ultimate test. Not only do I have to fend off against Myra, but also Sonya - at the same time! [Quick cut to Sonya.] SONYA: The purpose of this final session is to get Izumi used to defending against attacks from multiple angles, rather than just expecting Park to attack from the front. [Then to Myra.] MYRA: When that bell rings, no matter how much you gameplan for an opponent, things change. Take it from me. I've gameplanned every single match my whole career. But you have to adapt or be defeated; and that's what we're hoping to teach Izumi here. [Cut back as Izumi takes in a deep breath and then smiles brightly.] IZUMI: Wish me luck! [We cut to that two on one sparring session, where both Myra and Sonya come at Izumi from varying directions and angles. She's able to defend against one at a time, but struggles when the other comes in out of nowhere with another attack. She blocks and counters well, but doesn't react as quickly against both women. Once more the camera speeds up though, to show her time after time failing to recognize different incoming attacks. But slowly, she starts to spot them quicker, until her head's practically on a swivel and she's countering both with ease. We cut back to the trio one final time. Izumi is on all fours, sweat dripping from every inch of her body. Myra and Sonya, also worn out from the session, both speak in unison.] MYRA AND SONYA: She's ready. [Izumi sits back on her knees, that big bright smile turning into a huge grin.] IZUMI: Yesssss! ============================================= [We fade in to the summit of Mt. Washington to find Izumi Sato once again, seated at the edge overlooking the city of Pittsburgh. She's clad in a hot pink sweat suit with white stripes, white t-shirt beneath that, and Reeboks on her feet. Izumi gazes out at the city below, a light breeze rustling through her jet black hair.] IZUMI: Sometimes it pays to take a step back and just enjoy life for a moment. Whether you dig your feet in the sand, or just sit back and enjoy the sounds of nature all around you, these are fleeting moments in today's world. [She then turns to look into the lens.] IZUMI: Wouldn't you agree, Hana? I mean here you and I are, coming off our own unique injuries, and we've got a match against one another. [She can't help but smile, before brushing a few strands of hair out of her face.] IZUMI: No Scarlett McCain, no Erica Nobody, just you and me. Japan versus South Korea. Judo versus Tae-Kwon-Do. Sure we can spend hours upon hours training and preparing in the gym for this match; heck, I sure did! But at the end of the day, you and I don't hate eachother. [She shakes her head.] IZUMI: There's no prior history, no bad blood. Just two Asian warriors going to battle, to showcase our skills as we go move for move and hold for hold. [Turning back to the view before her, Izumi lets out a long, relaxed sigh. A contented sigh.] IZUMI: This is what wrestling should be: a contest between two world-class athletes to determine who is the greater on a given night. To strive ever forward in hopes of one day attaining glory as a champion. [She turns back to the lens.] IZUMI: Sure there might be a bitter rivalry every once in a while, but settle it in the ring within the confines of the rules. None of this looking to cripple people, or taking bites out of opponents' arms, or the like. [Her voice darkens ever so slightly.] IZUMI: Shame that's not the way things are in the real world. Instead we have blood feuds and blood baths. [And then her tone brightens again, becoming equally excited at the same time.] IZUMI: But not this time, Hana. Not this time! For once, the fans will be treated to a wrestling match reminiscent to what the sport was intended to be! They'll get a battle between two women who have no animosity toward one another, but who simply want to put on the greatest match possible! One of us will move up the ladder, and one will move down; but at the end of the day, the fans will go home raving about the epic battle they saw between Hana Park and Izumi Sato! [She nods, a smile pushing ever further at the edges of her lips.] IZUMI: They'll tell their friends and families! They'll rave about it on the internet! And soon the [motions all around her] WHOLE WORLD will know about the little promotion in Pittsburgh, PA, and the incredible wrestling action it plays host to! [She takes in a deep breath, calming herself down.] IZUMI: And for those ten minutes we have to show the world what we're made of, what The Pitt's made of... [She rises to her feet.] IZUMI: I hope you'll take that step back with me. I hope you'll soak every second of it in as I will, Hana. Enjoy it, for we may only get this one chance. [Out.] |
