Just read and enjoy. If you don't like fantasy, then :P

------------------------------------------

Afternoon tea. Laid out ready for consumption. In an empty room. Save for one person. They were reading a news paper. Hmming and haaaing over its contents, they stopped on a particular article. They gasped and dropped the paper, knocking over a cup of tea.

“Could it be?!” he shrieked in discovery. “Oh my god, it is!” he decided on closer inspection of a photograph of an intricately decorated coffin. “That's the emblem of the Metherlence!” he darted up from his seat and whooped. “I've finally found it! The legendary Edel Raid!”

--------------------------------------------

Guardia, a world where people explore the far reaches of the sky. Where mysterious powers can be found floating amongst the clouds. Where a legend holds the promise: “In the heavens, where the clouds lead, lies a land of gold and peace.” This is the story of a young pirate. The tale of his adventures and experiences in his quest for freedom and independence.

--------------------------------------------

A young man was seated in the crow's nest of the airship that he kept watch over. He seemed bored and unfulfilled in his work. His long hair blew and twisted in the slight wind. He pulled out his telescope and scouted around to check for enemy craft. All was well until an unfamiliar airship caught his eye.

“Alert! Enemy sighted!” he yelled down to his fellow crewmen. “Position, northeast at one o'clock. Heading, downward, 45 degrees!” he acknowledged the fact that none of the other crew members had jumped to the alert. “Let's see if I can be first on the scene this time!” he said to himself, climbing down through a hole in the structure and into the top corridor.

He heard a man running down the corridor after him and looked around. “James, where do you think you're going! Stop--!”

He ran on with a broad grin, sliding down another hatch, not once looking back. The captain never lets me do my own thing. he thought angrily. Just wanna get a chance to break from this monotony...

Before he knew it, he had several crew members on his tail. “Catch him and make sure he stays out of trouble!” the captain yelled after them.

They won't catch me. he grinned. I know this ship inside out! They quickly covered ground. The men being bigger, stronger and evidently faster than he was. The man leading the pack caught James' ankle and brought him to the ground with a completely unflattering thud. On second thought... The men marched him back to his room, throwing him to the floor and shut the door behind him.

“You're still far too inexperienced.” the captain announced via the ship's PA system. “Go to the back and just watch!” he tutted. “Without getting in anyone's way!”

“Sir, I don't know what you're talking about!” James growled, running his hand through his hair. “I'm perfectly capable of operating and controlling a lightship on my own! All I need is a weapon! I'm tired of just watching!” he got up from the floor and flung the door open. “I never get to have any fun, it's just not fai--” he tripped over his shoelace and fell flat on his face, over the stairs and onto the lightcraft deck. “Oww.”

Planes took off from the deck, leaving the ship at breakneck speed. Behind them, the main ship was taking heavy fire from enemy craft. They bombarded it and landed on the front deck. The fired at the front door of the ship and broke straight through.

James had managed to commandeer a small helicopter for himself and left the ship before it came under fire. His craft took a light hit and he angled up and away from the general target zone. Shit, would you look at that?! he mused as his craft climbed slowly, looking down at the main ship below. I thought it was just a civilian ship but, this could get very interesting...

He directed the small craft downwards and dropped a missile on the enemy main craft, blowing the top of the ship out. He jumped out of his ship and into the enemy's rolling under a table. A small contingent of the enemy captain's personal security came out with hand guns. It may sound shitty but, I'd better announce to these punks just which flag I fly under...

“From dark and stormy skies--” Damn, I forget... “Dark and stormy skies, we... uh...”

The gunmen gave him clueless faces. I don't know why they waste their time... I'm useless at piracy.

“From dark and stormy skies we... emerge! We emerge! To take whatever wares of worth that you may have! We are the red lynx! Sky pirates of the wind. We have come to claim all of your treasure!” See? Told you it was wordy and shitty. Damn captain. Heh, it's protocol.

“JAMES! What're you doing?! Our work here is done! Get back here! Bring whatever you stole...”

“Yes sir.” he frowned, rolling his eyes and running to catch a ladder that'd been dropped from the main ship.

--------------------------------------------

It's me! Yeah? Robbed?! Go after them right away and get it back! That is one of the most important treasures in the entire world, do you not understand that?! an angry, frustrated voice announced over a monitor. It is the Shichikou-hoji!

--------------------------------------------

They're making fun of me. James hissed walking down an empty corridor kicking the ground. Bastards. All of them. He walked passed the open storage bay and thought. Hmm... I wonder what we got today. Might find something of worth that I can sell so, I can start my own crew. he chuckled evilly to himself and scratched his chin. Hows about a little sneak preview...

He stalked around the full bay that was littered with treasure. Jewels, gold, rare threads, weapons... Wow, there's some cool stuff in here... and then there's that. he snarled walking past a gold eagle's head draped in cloth. Huh? What's this? His eyes fell over a stone coffin, embellished with different coloured gems and metals. Man, it's so dusty and old looking. The jewels suddenly flashed green. Woah! he gasped. Did I really just see that or am I imagining things? he dusted off the old coffin and choked on the dust.

“Let's see...” he smirked mischievously. “It was... this one and these three.” he touched over the four gems that he thought he'd seen flashing and smiled expectantly.

The coffin lid flew open.

James jumped back and fell straight on his behind. Scared. He crawled back over to the slightly open box and put his ear to it. Nothing.

Sharp breath.

SOMETHING!!!
he prised open the box unable to contain himself and was even more shocked at what he found.

Is he dead?

The forme of a young, human male lay in the coffin before him. A really... uh... handsome young male... STOP! James what're you thinking?!?! STOP! he smacked himself in the forehead. He's dead! he stopped for a moment... If he's dead, he won't mind me looking a little closer...

He perched over the open coffin, gazing over the once tall, young man. His long dark hair laid under him in his final resting place. Beauty. James mused. Such amazing dark, flawless skin... he touched his face--

“Ahhhh! WHAT THE FUCK?! Let me go!” he screamed feeling the 'dead' young man's hand around his throat. Next thing James knew, he was being thrown across the room. “You! You-- you're... not d-dead...”

He sat up out of his confines and looked slowly around. He looked up and stared blankly at James. Eyes ever widening in terror and confusion.

--------------------------------------------

“Can't we just slow down a little?!” a man with long dark hair wailed as he clung onto the back seat of the aircraft he was sat in.

“No, if we don't get it this time, we may never get another chance!” the pilot retorted shortly. Obviously the leader. “Come to think of it...” he spoke to the on board computer console. “Double speed, bear east!”

The two passengers wailed their discomfort and clung onto each other for support.

--------------------------------------------

He climbed out of the coffin and wobbled. Weak from being holed up in such a small amount of space. He walked towards a blushing James, eyes wild.

“Uh... excuse me asking but, uh...” James stumbled over his words. “Are you... alive?”

No answer. He moved closer, looking around.

“What were you doing in a coffin?”

Still no reply. Walking faster.

“Who are you?”

He walked silently past James and out towards the door.

“What's wrong?”

Suddenly, the mysterious young man collapsed. James caught him in his arms and fell to the floor.

Don't... touch... me!” James was startled by his soft breath of a voice. “You smell like a human.” he hissed through his teeth as he walked away from James and out of the cargo hold.

--------------------------------------------

“What do you mean I 'smell like a human'?” James growled. “You mean, you're not one?” Sirens whirred around the ship. “Enemy.” James bolted for the door, straight past the dark beauty.

“Enemy?” he whispered.

“What's going on?!” James asked of the bunch of rushing crew.

“Enemy chopper sighted.” one of them said.

James ducked his head back into the storage bay only to see him just standing there. “C'mon! We gotta get out of here!” the man didn't move. “C'mon, there's danger!” James groaned and grabbed his tiny wrist and dragged him through the door. He dragged him to the front of the ship to the main deck. He found the captain. “What is it sir?”

“I ain't seen anything like that before.”

“What is it?”

“I don't know, James!”

“Y'think the authorities have come to arrest us?” One of the men asked of the captain.

“Don't be such a fool, man! You think those halfwits would come at us with just one plane?”

“No, sir.”

“Boss! They want on!”

“They what?!”

“They want to get on board the ship! What do we do?”

“We let them on. Welcome them graciously but, be cautious.”

“Yes sir!”

“To the flight deck!”

The boss shoved past James and his 'find' and took the entire crew with him. James watched from the window and the other man eyed him cautiously. Outside, was an orange ship coming in to land on the flight deck. It looked more advanced than the Red Lynx's craft.

“They've landed, sir.”

“Bring them in.”

--------------------------------------------

“Good morning!” a short man with long hair flanked by two taller men burst through the door. “Sorry to bother you so early in the day!” he stepped into the command area. “We are members of the Arc Aile. The Edel Raid Protection Agency!”

“Ay-day-what?” James raised his eyebrow.

“Protection agency?” the captain crossed his arms.

The dark beauty glared at the flamboyant man before him.

“Yes,” he smiled happily. “we have come aboard your grand craft to retrieve the Edel Raid that you Sky Pirates stole!” he grinned, mood unwavering as he outstretched his hand to the captain. “My name is Lars and I am the leader of this team.” he pointed to the man with long dark hair on his left. “This is Rob, my vice and this is--”

“Jason. My name is Jason... and uh, do you have any food on board? I'm starving!” the man with long, reddish brown hair to Lars' left groaned.

“So... what is this Edel... whatever? What's this all about?” James wondered. “I've never heard of it.”

“Pfff, oh, stop messing around.” Lars dismissed. “He's standing right there behind you!” he gasped, covering his mouth. “On second thought... what is he doing awake?!” he got right up in James face. “You did something to him didn't you?!” he accused. “Admit it!”

“Did you, James?” the captain asked with a glare.

“Hell no, what would I do with a dude... uh, sir?” he walked backwards and crashed into Jason.

“You'd better tell us the truth kid! I don't take kindly to liars... and especially not when I'm hungry!”

Rob scratched his head and sighed.

“Is it true that this boy really is a Edel Raid?” the captain asked of Lars.

“One hundred percent, sir.” Lars told him straight.

“So, sir, you're telling me that you know about these Edel-things?”

“I do.” he scratched his chin. “Something about joining up with humans to battle.”

“Actually,” Rob started. “That's not exactly true... but, close enough. We at Arc Aile have been looking for him for some time now.”

“Of all the Edel Raids, that young man is particularly special.” Jason added. “He is the Shichikou-hoji and he's not someone who should be stuck in a pirate ship.”

“Hmmm...” James tried to get his head around the unusual word he'd just heard. “Shi-ko-po-pi.”

“Shichikou-hoji!” Jason corrected.

“Yeah, yeah, shi-mo-moji...”

Shichikou-hoji!

“Shi-co-po-lee?”

I said Shichikou-hoji!!

“Who cares what his name is, what do you guys want him for?” James ended the argument.

Lars wrote out a cheque for fifty million dollars and held it in his hand. “Will this do?” he asked. “It includes handling charges and it's tax free!” he smiled silently giving the air of 'take it!'. “It's enough to renovate this rust bucket of an airship and still have some back pocket change.”

“Why would you wanna give us all that money?” the Captain asked suspiciously.

“Despite the fact that you stole him, he is still in your possession. If we could solve this with a simple lump sum, it'd be so much easier.”

“James... what do you think about that?”

“Can I be honest, sir?” he asked, fists clenched.

“Of course.”

“Thank you, sir.” he growled, walking towards Lars, slapping his hand away. “You make me sick!”

“You're not satisfied? Man, you're a tough negotiator...” he smiled, getting another pen out. “This is as much as we can do...” he wrote one for seventy-five million and James snatched it away, tearing it up. “What did you do that for?! Can't you see that we're trying to be reasonable?” Lars grumbled, backing up to his friends.

“He's human! Just like the rest of us!”

“He's not.” Rob explained. “Hard to tell with an untrained eye.”

“Still, you can't just buy him like an object!”

He... is defending me?

“No matter money you offer up, you're not getting him.”

“Is that... so?” Lars smirked.

“Uh, Lars, shouldn't we talk this over?” Rob pleaded with Lars' darkening eyes.

“They've turned down money up front... it's now time for plan B. We have no choice.”

“Awesome, I've waited a long time for this!” Jason jumped about. “Let's finish this real quick so that we can go eat!”

“What do you mean Plan B?” James growled.

“We take him.” Lars smiled sweetly... until his expression changed. “By... force!” he swiftly pulled a gun from his cape and aimed it at James' head.

“Bastards!”

“So, now that we're decided...”

The windows suddenly smashed through and a team of ninja looking men jumped through after. Their leader drew two knives from his waist and held them out ready for a fight. He pointed one knife at the captain.

“Are they with you?” he grunted at the Arc Aile.

“No!” Rob confirmed as Lars re-aimed his gun.

This time, opening fire on the men as they lunged at the Red Lynx crew. Some of the ninja ran off down the hall with Arc Aile in close tow.

“After them!” the captain ordered, watching James, he grabbed his shirt, pulling him back. “No, take this.” He handed him a very large sword.

“Wow, thanks sir!”

“I'm giving you this to protect the kid.” he motioned towards the Shichikou-hoji and pushed the large weapon to James' chest. “Got it? Protect him with your life!”

James looked around to him and smiled. “I'll protect you, I promise but,” he noticed a charge on the window and his eyes widened. “right now, we gotta run!” he grabbed his wrist like he had before and dragged him out of the room, down the hall, pushing the door closed behind him and turning the door bolt shut.

No use.

The ninjas exploded straight through the door and straight into Lars' open fire. He saw the Edel Raid just standing against the wall looking afraid and James struggling with his sword. “Rob, Jason, take care of them!”

“Lars, calm down!”

“That's an order!”

Jason wound his arms behind Rob's back and laid his head on his shoulder. “Hey cutie... mind if we react?”

“Jase... not now.”

“Well, you heard the man, we gotta hold down the front. You know we can't do that if we don't.”

“Do you realise what could happen if we--”

They dodged two daggers in their path.

Jason stroked Rob's chin, turning his face to him and lightly kissed his lips. “Well, you'll just have to trust me then. I won't take no for an answer.”

--------------------------------------------

Meanwhile... James hit the wall. He'd be thrown back right next to the frightened Edel Raid.

“Damn...” he panted, sweaty and tired out. He sat down against the wall and looked up. He saw a blinding light, Rob back to him and Jason fading into his body. “What in the world?!”

The shichikou-hoji watched on knowingly as James watched in confusion. Two long, sharp, chained blades materialised upon Rob's arms. They were grand and impressive looking.

”C'mon Robster, let's finish things off now, okay?” it was Jason's voice but, he sounded far away. Robotic even. Not to mention flirtatious.

Rob blushed. “Just uh, calm down Jase.”

“A weapon? They formed a weap--”

“Look out!” Lars yelled and shot at a man coming from behind James. “looks like you're struggling with these guys. Tell you what. If I succeed in defending him, you hand him over to me.” he smirked aiming at the guy for a third time.

“No chance.” James growled in total defence mode.

“Fine, have it your way but you owe me--” he tried firing the gun to find it out of rounds. “Why when I try to sound like the big guy do I run out of ammo?!”

The ninja pushed Lars to the ground and lunged at James who managed to get his sword up in time to defend himself. They tussled for a few shots before James held him back. “What do you guys want him so badly for anyways? Is it because he's that so called Edel Raid?” The ninja flipped him over and sent him flying into the wall once more. James' mind flashed back to not long before.

”You smell like a human, I hate you!”

“After I was born, I was alone. If the boss hadn't have taken me in, I don't know what would've happened to me...” he muttered under his breath. “He... this Edel Raid is the same. He's alone too.” he bit his lip. “I can't explain it but, the loneliness I feel coming from him... it's the same as mine.”

The ninja got up and punched James across the jaw sending him down.

“I just... want to get to know him.”

“You... heroic.” the Edel Raid whispered as he took James' hand. He lifted it and cradled it, softly holding his hand to his mouth. James looked at him with wary eyes. “I don't understand.” He started. “You're human... but, you're strange.” he breathed deep. “And because you're strange... I...”

A greenish wind swirled around them. Lars caught sight of it and gasped. “Hey! If you guys react... HEY!”

Kirk breathed deep and held James' hand to his lips and whispered. “On a helpless but beautiful night, soothing and comforting... and prospering on the eyelids...”

I can hear him chanting inside my head... this is wrong.

“Through the fields of heaven...”

The Edel Raid grabbed either side of James' face and pleaded with him with his eyes.
