In the world of Antichthon Dragons fly, and unicorns prance.
It's a world of magic, fluid and vast. Counter Earth, So similar to our own...but not.
Here man is uncommon and dwell together in small settlements.
Here, elves, dinosaurs and myth are real, commonplace!
In Antichthon, Animals talk, think, and learn together. It's no surprise, but do expect the unexpected.
As mankind does on Earth, it does in the counter Earth. Animals fall to weapons of various kinds, any quadruped must be wary.

Come down to a cove, not quite a Valley, at the base of the mountains. Rich and green, untainted, but for a settlement of about 50 humanoids whom live further south. A forest fire caught near them, which pushed them away, but drove out much of the larger game. Small game is abundant though, in this virgin forest, riddled with clearings.
This beautiful shallow Valley is about 150 miles across. cutting a track across the western side, close to the mountains is a large river, which runs to the base like a giant tear, collecting at the base of the mountains to a lake, shining a blue wonder. The hills at the base of the mountain are large, and before the land settled itself volcanic activity caused many natural caverns to form, some of which are interconnected by tunnels. There are three tunnels that lead out away from the main collection, one only small animals, perhaps the size of a fox could get through, and another is blocked by rock fall. It leads under the river. The last, large enough for two wolves atop one another to walk, leads out to a rock formation in middle land, marked by a clearing and a young cherry tree, not yet baring fruit.
The rest, not large hills, but not plains, is rolling forest covered hill. Oak, walnut, Hickory, and Maple are the main trees found there. Pine, poplar and Cherry woods intermingle, but are not as present. Where the Fire had consumed new Birch, Beech and Pines are springing up. The young trees are no more than 2 feet high right now. Ground Cover is still struggling to come up.
Common ground and fruit bearing plants are wild strawberries, Queen Ann's Lace root, cattail tubers at the edges of the lake, Huckleberries in the high hills, black and raspberry, Young tart cherries and small sweet apples, a random small grove of apricot trees from birds eating fruit.

This is the land Cross Roads has come to populate!

Crossroads land was not always populated by wolves however. It was full of cougar, bobcat, bear, moose and game. A few wolves who had no home banded together and in their strength and will they chased away many large predators. Together they came, and though each was from another land, another life, another rule...they became one.
Each of the wolves, but ten all told, expressed their tales. Two young pairs searching for a home. One young female saw how they were, and how they worked together. She confided to her mate what she believed and he addressed the older ones.
"From across each track of land we've come here. From many different paths we've trod, but here together we now stand. We should call ourselves Cross Roads, and take in any, like ourselves. Everyone deserves chance, peace, and friendly faces to call home."
A few older ones were not sure, and stated that there would be those who turned away, or found them fools. The younger were not disheartened, and said that each must choose how they will stride.
None of the elders of that groups, which there were three of them, between the ages of 7-9 wished to rule this new land, because much still needed done to take it as their territory. The young pair who suggested it, rose to the challenge and took the older mated pair as Betas. The last young couple became Gamas. The last four were members of the pack, as they chose to be. They knew that the age old pack, across the River, would not like them there as a clan.
Slowly, the young pack built it's empire and grew. A few other wolves, loners all joined the growing pack.
Their Rivals did resent them, in heir newness, their naive nature, their open kindness. Sure it would break them down before long. They were strong, generations strong and valued knowledge of war and land. They would send splinters to heckle Cross Roads, but as the new pack grew the attacks became less and less.
Now, as the old Alphas drew to twilight years, and were soon to pass a youth who had joined them near the beginning, named Tris, stepped into the role of Alpha Female.
Together, with her Mate, Cross roads will grow and flourish, even with dangers that lurk, and enemies threaten. With the fire having chased away large game, the pack hunting together, thus some community time, was lost. This must be made up, for the pack to stay as one.

Tris bows to you, bottle green eyes closing "Welcome friend! I hope you will find safety with our family, we can be odd, we have our faults, but we are one."

((Bare in mind, this is characters in a different place, different packs, perhaps Loners even. Roaming amid the plains and mountain bases.))

Nero, stoic, level headed, easy minded. He had a pack, way back when. He had a lot of things way back when, though it was not that long ago. A year really perhaps, but then...it did not matter much. The female he was following after, watching over, catering to, baby sitting, what have you...had all his attention.
There was no regret. What was to be sad over? He'd chosen to follow her, even beyond duty.

The black backed, white chested male would not perhaps admit to others he loved this female whom he called addle brained, but he did. Dust settled across his shoulders as he walked along a deer path, following old scents, kicking up old leaves, hunting but not really needing to...yet.
He was not a huge talker, perhaps a grunt here or there for most, but he'll speak for her. He'll tell her truth, perhaps more blunt than he means to, but he will.
He can seem hostile to strangers, which is all they meet on the paths they travel. Baring his teeth and looking sharp, dangerous. One of them needed to look it, though Solstice, he felt, could be a danger all her own. It was odd to be tethered by choice.

The black topped wolf, chin, chest, belly and bottom of tail all white, with his plain brown eyes regrets nothing about leaving the security of pack and safety for the freedom of wandering and learning. He's even set himself a new life goal, though it's a shaky one...

A pure white female wandered idly after Nero. Solstice lifted her muzzle to the sky as a light breeze came through, fluffing up her fur and giving her a slight tickle of amusement. It was not as good as the feeling of water, but an enjoyable feeling nonetheless. Her eyes switched between the blue sky and him, well mainly his tail end since that is all she can see form this angle. Her blue eyes casually watched him with a broad smile upon her muzzle. She did indeed fancy this male, through unlikely it did seem.

They had met nearly a year ago, on his territory. She had been as they are now, a wanderer seeking nothing but comfort. In truth she had originally gone there to find her brother, but with that problem solved she had no reason to stay and easily decided to move on. To Solstice's surprise Nero had chosen to tag along, she did not understand why for all she did was cause drama and confuse the poor male with her advances, but she couldn't complain.

Solstice looked forward to the future, through the present was boring for the large, handsome male before her had insisted that they hunt. She rolled her eyes at the thought of eating before smiling defiantly and nipping the end of his tail, hoping to get some sort of fun reaction out of the brute.

Nero jumps, not expecting this, and looks around at Solstice with that mixture of annoyed confusion he usually gives, not to be mistaken for a caring look, though it is that as well. He'll only feign exasperation. He does stop his stalking stride however and turn to her a little more, examining her as he always does, watching the play of friendliness on her face, though he considers it spacey. Even after this year, she's not convinced him otherwise of her being addle brained, but he does not tell her that she is anymore.

A good thing about this passed by year though is his new found expressions. He's putting on a fresh one, amused compliance. A white whiskered eyebrow raises, the opposite ear tips down and a tentative smile touches his muzzle. Playful Solstice, always playful, always preferring water too. They had left a creek meandering away from them three days before. This most vexing female...
For not the first, and nor the last time Nero shakes his head just slightly and smiles wider "Why did I follow after you in the first place." Not as much a question at her, for it never was, but there are times she heard him, and answered, and there were times he's sure she'd heard him, and did not.

Regardless the face he's made he turns and crouches, passing for playful for him. He's gotten better at that, being playful, or at least is still working on it...He's improved.

Solstice smiled and turned so her side is facing Nero. She stretched out fully, tail lifted and legs stretched far out. She licked her lips slowly and smiled at Nero. " Because of all of this?" She said playfully completely oblivious to the fact he may actually like that. She then faced Nero and crouched low with her tail end high in the air, reflecting a playful stance. " Your move big guy." She said while shaking her tail and tilting her head with a smile. Solstice didn't actually think he was going to do anything this time but who knows...

Nero does a shuffle backwards, still in the crouched position. Adverse to normal behavior he gives a mock lunge forward but then simply brushes past and smiles over his shoulder. "I am sure perhaps once we find water you'll be contented at least a degree, but only by a degree."

In odd nature of him, feeling particularly free this day he tugs the end of her tail and trots off from the deer path into the trackless woods along the plains. Nero likes the plains, perhaps because he was born in the valley he'd found them different, alien, enticing, and still so he did. Having seen the seasons change over them he still found himself astounded by this location as he was by his companion.

Solstice gives a small chuckle and bounds after him. She was thoroughly enjoying having the male around to keep her company. She bounded up to his side and let her eyes wander around the territory surrounding them. They had not seen another wolf in quite awhile, and it give the area sense of peace. Her ears flicked slightly as she could hear trickling water, which excited her by the pure means of water and the fact that it sounded calm form this distance.

Solstice smiled at her companion and gave a small nibble on his neck. " So why DID you decide to come with me so long ago?" She asked innocently, wondering if he would find a way to dodge the question again. She had asked that question a multitude of times over the year and it always seemed like he came up with a new excuse every time. 'Oh look a river..' ...' oh look a deer.' all common excuses she would get from the male, but she was determined to get it out of him... no matter what it took...

True to form for Nero he did dodge it, having caught her expression then hearing water himself that was his reasoning this time around. "I hear water, If I can I /know/ you do." Any outsider would see that as sarcastic, but Solstice would know having heard this so many times, that's his friendly/familiar tone. Her touch had made him smile though, again a smile! He tries to cover it, stoic Nero the rock.

His face cracks again anyway and gives her muzzle a shove when he can reach it. "Lets go to the water, fish." his voice, while never pretty, since his vocal chords were messed up at a younger age, inflected patient caring. Not so between a bitch and her pups, but caring of family connectedness. He trots forward, stops, starts again. His tail wags slowly...then with a bark he lopes towards the sound.

Solstice merely chuckles at his actions. " I love it when you act like a puppy, dear." She said before joining him in zooming towards the river. It quickly came into view, and sure enough it was nice and calm. The area around ti was almost perfect, no sign of trouble what so ever. Solstice quickly nudged Nero's side again and ran to the waters edge while slowly peering over the edge. She hung over the bank with her tail held high, and rapidly wagging.

Nero grumbles but does not say anything loud enough to really be made out, something like 'not acting like a pup' but it's hard to say. He stops at her nudge and sighs just softly, observing her. Contentment at her simple happiness, she loved water, and he loved her. What more would be better? It satisfied him enough.

Seeing her tail wag, his did too, He sat back away from her enjoying this moment. "Lovely" escaped his lips before he could catch his thoughts. Shame Nero, Shame, you're slipping yourself. Letting emotions show more? my ohhhh my. He takes a few steps closer and sits again, covering himself with a short cough and a mutter of "Bugs."

Solstice glanced back at Nero and gave him a bright smile before turning her gaze back to the water. Her tail flicked back and forth, mimicking the subtle movements that the fish, that lay before her blue eyes, were making. She quickly lunged her muzzle into the water and pulled it back out and dripping wet and with a fish flopping wildly in it. Solstice turned and padded over to Nero and sat innocently in front of him. She made a series of weird, comical noises while trying to talk to Nero without dropping the fish. She kept trying, as if not even realizing she was inaudible with the thing in her mouth, her tail wagging ferociously and her head tilted ever so slightly.

Nero draws his head back, eyebrows knitting together, looking uncertain at first of the sudden movements and enthusiasm. Then he understands and actually chuckles. Though he had nooooo idea what she had said, he gets an idea and leans forward enough to crunch it's head in his jaws.
He's so close to her face for this stretch of time that a little shudder runs over him, and the ridge of hair along his back stands up. Pulling his head away now, mouth left open he gives another shake to settle it. "You never fail to impress in that manner Fish." He'd taken to calling her this with a growing frequency. First it had been almost an accident, like a joke, but it's grown more. Fish...an endearing name, no?

Solstice too shuddered at having Nero that close. When he retraced she placed the fish calmly at his paws and licked her lips slowly. She smiled and wagged her tail. " Fish..." She muttered slowly as she looked down at the overly dead creature at their feet. Solstice then looked at her body before turning back to Nero and frowning. " PLEEEEASEEE tell me I look better than that tasty little thing." She said with a slight tilt of her head before giving a very random yawn.

Solstice stood up and walked next to Nero and laid down. She curled her tail around herself and gave another yawn while turning her head so she can see Nero fully. She smiled happily at the large wolf, she had fallen for him almost the moment she met him. And she was VERY happy to have him with her... even if it wasn't for the same reason as she wanted.

Nero smiled and did not give her an answer at first, let her think she looked like a fish. Finally he replied, as she lay down, "You are much more beautiful, and clever than a fish. You take to water like fishes do is all." This is bold of him to say such things! Oh bold Nero! Dashing Nero? No. He'll pass it off as simply the truth, but voicing ones thoughts is the truth after all.

To try and displace his words he continues, though the follow up is delayed, giving that he'd thought of it later. "I'll always know where to find you, and never be thirsty for very long either." his shoulders bounce a little as his eyes squint in a chuckle, he does find this bit funny.

Solstice blushed slightly at first when he proclaimed his thoughts, through she could drag that answer out of anyone, but it seemed to mean more coming from Nero than most males. She coughed slightly and looked away while slowly uncurling her tail and flicking it silently. After a moment she turned and stuck her tongue out at him. " Good to know I can be of some use dear Nero." She said slowly and with a smile while watching the large male.

Solstice turned her gaze elsewhere in case she was making him feel uneasy. So she turned her gaze to other things, birds, insects, any random critter that wandered about while still keeping their distance from the pair of wolves. With another yawn she rolled onto her back and stretched out while gazing at the sky, her eyes occasionally flicking to Nero before returning to the sky.

Nero stretched and lay down too, and gnawed on the head of the fish, he liked eyes, they were good for you. Scales taste bad sometimes, but they can be as well. Had she caught him? the way she behaved he could never actually be certain, she kept him on his toes. At her looking away his easy gaze went to her directly. She played the dance with him, he was sure. Right? This was a game? No, not a game, not like it was for some, who took life to seriously. Nero had learned that from her, see life a little easier and don't act so serious all the time.

He turns his head away any time she looks at him, or simply closes his eyes, he won't be caught staring. He's gotten use to her odd staring though...it was something she did, though if she did it to long he did start to feel edgy.
