In the world of Antichthon Dragons fly, and unicorns prance.
It's a world of magic, fluid and vast. Counter Earth, So similar to our own...but not.
Here man is uncommon and dwell together in small settlements.
Here, elves, dinosaurs and myth are real, commonplace!
In Antichthon, Animals talk, think, and learn together. It's no surprise, but do expect the unexpected.
As mankind does on Earth, it does in the counter Earth. Animals fall to weapons of various kinds, any quadruped must be wary.

Come down to a cove, not quite a Valley, at the base of the mountains. Rich and green, untainted, but for a settlement of about 50 humanoids whom live further south. A forest fire caught near them, which pushed them away, but drove out much of the larger game. Small game is abundant though, in this virgin forest, riddled with clearings.
This beautiful shallow Valley is about 150 miles across. cutting a track across the western side, close to the mountains is a large river, which runs to the base like a giant tear, collecting at the base of the mountains to a lake, shining a blue wonder. The hills at the base of the mountain are large, and before the land settled itself volcanic activity caused many natural caverns to form, some of which are interconnected by tunnels. There are three tunnels that lead out away from the main collection, one only small animals, perhaps the size of a fox could get through, and another is blocked by rock fall. It leads under the river. The last, large enough for two wolves atop one another to walk, leads out to a rock formation in middle land, marked by a clearing and a young cherry tree, not yet baring fruit.
The rest, not large hills, but not plains, is rolling forest covered hill. Oak, walnut, Hickory, and Maple are the main trees found there. Pine, poplar and Cherry woods intermingle, but are not as present. Where the Fire had consumed new Birch, Beech and Pines are springing up. The young trees are no more than 2 feet high right now. Ground Cover is still struggling to come up.
Common ground and fruit bearing plants are wild strawberries, Queen Ann's Lace root, cattail tubers at the edges of the lake, Huckleberries in the high hills, black and raspberry, Young tart cherries and small sweet apples, a random small grove of apricot trees from birds eating fruit.

This is the land Cross Roads has come to populate!

Crossroads land was not always populated by wolves however. It was full of cougar, bobcat, bear, moose and game. A few wolves who had no home banded together and in their strength and will they chased away many large predators. Together they came, and though each was from another land, another life, another rule...they became one.
Each of the wolves, but ten all told, expressed their tales. Two young pairs searching for a home. One young female saw how they were, and how they worked together. She confided to her mate what she believed and he addressed the older ones.
"From across each track of land we've come here. From many different paths we've trod, but here together we now stand. We should call ourselves Cross Roads, and take in any, like ourselves. Everyone deserves chance, peace, and friendly faces to call home."
A few older ones were not sure, and stated that there would be those who turned away, or found them fools. The younger were not disheartened, and said that each must choose how they will stride.
None of the elders of that groups, which there were three of them, between the ages of 7-9 wished to rule this new land, because much still needed done to take it as their territory. The young pair who suggested it, rose to the challenge and took the older mated pair as Betas. The last young couple became Gamas. The last four were members of the pack, as they chose to be. They knew that the age old pack, across the River, would not like them there as a clan.
Slowly, the young pack built it's empire and grew. A few other wolves, loners all joined the growing pack.
Their Rivals did resent them, in heir newness, their naive nature, their open kindness. Sure it would break them down before long. They were strong, generations strong and valued knowledge of war and land. They would send splinters to heckle Cross Roads, but as the new pack grew the attacks became less and less.
Now, as the old Alphas drew to twilight years, and were soon to pass a youth who had joined them near the beginning, named Tris, stepped into the role of Alpha Female.
Together, with her Mate, Cross roads will grow and flourish, even with dangers that lurk, and enemies threaten. With the fire having chased away large game, the pack hunting together, thus some community time, was lost. This must be made up, for the pack to stay as one.

Tris bows to you, bottle green eyes closing "Welcome friend! I hope you will find safety with our family, we can be odd, we have our faults, but we are one."

Nero was not so tired, perhaps this would be repercussions later for him, since she'll be rather more awake, ah well though. He'd survive, he always did right, at least up to this point. He watched her drift off and fall into a light sleep pattern, sometimes her eyes looked as though they still moved beneath her lids. She'd not dropped into a proper sleep, but none the less she would feel rested.

Despite how normally Nero would stay away he inched close enough that some of his heat would get to her, and, he starts a soft tune. Nero likes to sing, but only when he thinks no one can hear him. It's the only time his voice, aside from earlier, sound beautiful, and clear. He thinks that perhaps Solstice will hear it in her sleep, but not know where it came from. Hopefully.
It's hard to say how Nero would respond if Solstice addressed him on it, since normally he stops for a good long time when someone tells him that they heard him, whether the response is good or bad though normally people tell him it's lovely.
"This I must say Dilly dilly, and it is true,
you must love me Dilly Dilly, for I love you.
Who told me so, Dilly Dilly, how do I know?
I told myself Dilly Dilly, love told me so.

Lavender's Blue Dilly dilly, Lavenders green,
When I am king, dilly dilly, I'll need a queen.
who told me so, dilly dilly, how do I know?
I told myself, dilly dilly, love told me so.

Send out your wolves Dilly Dilly, send them to sow,
send them to reap dilly dilly, send them to mow.
Some will hunt rabbits dilly dilly, Some will hunt horned,
while you and I dilly dilly keep ourselves warm.

Mating's for life, Dilly dilly, Love we must share,
growing with time dilly dilly, showing we care.
While you're asleep dilly dilly, sleep soundly through
I am right here dilly dilly, watching for you.

Lavender's Blue Dilly dilly, Lavenders green,
When I am king, dilly dilly, I'll need a queen.
who told me so, dilly dilly, how do I know?
I told myself, dilly dilly, love told me so.

While you do rest, Dilly dilly, I will keep still
I will watch out dilly dilly, waiting for kills.
I'll share your thoughts dilly dilly, I'll share your mind
I'll share you warmth Dilly dilly, I'll share you time.

If I love you Dilly dilly, never I'll roam
If you love me, dilly dilly, babies must come.
Sharp of mind girls dilly dilly, clever young boys,
binding us close, dilly dilly, bringing us joy.

Lavender's Blue Dilly dilly, Lavenders green,
When I am king, dilly dilly, I'll need a queen.
who told me so, dilly dilly, how do I know?
I told myself, dilly dilly, love told me so.

We will grow Old dilly dilly, and this is true
If you die first dilly dilly, I'll still love you.
I I die first dilly dilly, and that may be,
will you go on, dilly dilly, thinking of me?

Lavender's green, dilly dilly, Lavender's blue.
You will be queen, dilly dilly, when I wed you.
Who told me so, dilly dilly, how do I know?
I told myself, Dilly dilly, love told meeeeee sooooooo."
He finishes it smooth and soft and low, head lifted to the sky, and eyes half closed. It's an old song from long long ago when he was very small, and one of the few good memories he has of his mother.

Solstice turned slightly in her sleep. A sweet sound entering her ears, causing her to smile and dream of better things, through those things have yet to be decided by the outside world. Her tail unfurled from around her and slowly swayed without any conscience knowledge of it doing so. A light hum may have even been heard coming from her muzzle if one strained their ears to hear it. But all in all she stayed asleep, if not for at least a bit longer to regain any lost energy.

He smiles down at her, and hums that same tune but turns his thoughts to what to do about the coming winter. Like many the burdens of the world fall away in sleep, at least much of the time. Even Nero looks a bit softer, though often his brows are knitted together. He lays down and nicks the fish by the tail, which he chews on again while he reflects. He'll have to ask Solstice what she knows about the plains and if they are bad in the winter, perhaps settle here or trudge on. He thinks about going south, where the geese have flown. He's wondered where they go, since they fly before the winter really comes. They must go some place warm...

He gives a slight shake, would the survive this year then, alone? neither of them were pups, but still, in a strange place, uncertain of much...

Solstice lets out a large puppy like yawn and opens her eyes slightly. She smiles when she sees Nero while sitting up and nudging his side with her muzzle. " Whatcha thinking about hun?" She asked with a cute little tilt of her head. Solstice gazed around them and watched as everyone and everything had been getting ready for the upcoming winter.

"What to do about all this." he responds without hesitation "I admit to knowing nothing about the world outside of Break Ridge Valley. I know nothing about the plains, or what is beyond them. I do not know if these mountains are very different from those around the Valley or not." He laughs now, but it's a bit bitter, as he looks over at her with his plain brown eyes "You asked me long ago, near when we first met, what good was my talent for the body besides hurting, what good it can do in the long run. I wonder if you're a future seer, and lie to me in that regard." the last of his words is joking, not accusatory.
He pushes the rest of the fish she'd caught towards her once he's done his little laugh.

Solstice smiled and slowly ate the fish. " Well I am no seer, at least I don't think so. As for these plains... they are flat.. which is bad, snow will easily pile up, unlike with mountains that surround a valley which are able to absorb the worst of snowstorms and leave little snow for the valley." She said while looking up at Nero. " So if we are to stay then we must find some caves... so that at night we can stay warm, and if we are to leave then we must do so before the weather picks up." She added on and smiled while going back to eating.

Nero would feel insult from others for being talked to as that, but this was Solstice, even without his declaration of love Nero would only sigh and shake his head. That was her way, she was not flaunting what she knew, she was simply speaking it out because it was needed. So, he did just that, with a long sigh his head dropped and his eyes closed. "I've always wanted to go south. From time to time the birds speak of the Sea, a big water, with land that is not solid, but shifts and flies with each breath of air. They have told of there being few trees." he can't imagine such a place, he's only known good strong terra-firma, and lots of cover. Perhaps it's this lack of that entices him.

Solstice finished eating what little she did and stared at Nero as he spoke. " well then why don't we head south?" She said with a brief smile. " My pack lands is down there... as well as a large amount of humans... through some of them revere our kind as gods, while others only seek to eliminate us... But either way if it is the sea you desire to see, then lets go." She said, sounding resolute on the matter.

He tips his head off to the side, and smirks, but one ear is turned down and he looks a little quizzical, "You baffle me, and I feel that you always will to my dying day." He means it sweetly though, and stands with a shake before getting a drink of water, his tail waves just some. He feels in chipper spirits for being able to sing. Feigning sleep grants hearing a song and it makes Nero feel better, his way of lifting weight from himself.

"Your home pack was from the south? How far? Did you have a Valley, like mine?" he is curious, and the way he asks, eager for knowledge, make him seem much younger, perhaps he is more of a pup, at least out here. He gathers information quickly though, he understood how to hunt deer after a few mistakes on the plains, and now does pretty well. He does a few steps in place and turns southward, which is left of how they were going in the first place, having been wandering roughly westward.

Solstice stood and smiled at Nero's urge for knowledge. " yes my pack was from the south. we lived about 2 days away from the ocean. and we had a lot of things... our pack lands consisted of several different lands for each season... through we had general borders that we didn't cross, we were generally nomadic." She said while walking towards him. " It is very different down there, more people, warmer weather, smarter prey, our heat cycle is earlier, all sorts of things like that." She said while looking towards the south with a wandering look.

He is unsure about that now, it does sound like a lot, but he meanders away from the woods they'd found and onto the plain again. It would be easier to run along the boarders where the land is flat, but the overhead tree branches still offer some shade. He starts to lope at a pace he can maintain for a few hours. "Nomadic, that is interesting, I've wondered about nomads, that's why the geese fascinate me."

Solstice quickly feel into place beside Nero. " It was different then sitting in your pack lands for awhile. We were always shifting, following prey and weather patterns. As a pup it was annoying, but now I see just how much easier it makes life. Instead of always having to hope that food doesn't run out, or something bad doesn't happen." She said while staring at the ground with thought. " Really the only problem is that we constantly had to defend our various lands when ever we reentered them for a time... seasons pass and other creatures take over the area, we always had to push them back... even as pup we were trained to kill any who intrude.. so very harsh... and useless..." She muttered almost under her breath.

Nero grunts, something of a mixture of displeasure, an interest in the actions of her old family. "An Advantage of a set territory is knowing every inch of it. Shadow Hive knows it's best advantage points to use should there come fighting. Cross Roads they have bolts, they can hide away." He's not sure if they can escape these bolts another way though, he'd only picked up here and theres.
Each place is adaptable, you have to know how to survive. Nero fears that the talent he does have will not be helpful, that he will be useless when it comes to getting to new places. He understands the body functions and parts of animals found in Break Ridge and close by that wander in. He's even be able to watch an elf (female) gathering things in the long grass with a young one (male) though he did not know what gender either was.
He lapsed to silence though could say more. They could discuss the nature of pack solid versus shifting, but to what end? It helped neither of them now.

He licks his lips and frames a question "Humanoids, a people...what kinds have you seen?" He does not look her way as he runs, so he can't see what expression this question may give. "Elves live, as you and I have both seen, at the base of the Valley...but I know there are...other kinds." He normally does not talk while running, so doing this makes him breath a bit heavier.
Heat cycles come sooner...that's something Nero is not sure how to contend with, what to do about. It continues to dance in and out of the lime light in his brain, which he normally lets fall blank when going distances, thinking clutters and makes you slow when you are trying to really get somewhere.

Solstice kept walking, while absent-mindly thinking about what Nero was saying. " Humans... and Elves are the only things that I know that Ive seen. But it has been several years, so who knows what I have seen." She said with a slight frown. Solstice never liked humans... since the incident. She let out a slow sigh and watched the ground in front of her. " But humans are but a trifle thing if you know how to handle them." She said with a slight hint of experience.

Her tail swung wide, as did her hips, when she thought. She occasionally bumped into Nero with her hips and tail but she didn't think much of it as she thought about everything that was said, and what might be said.

He does a bit of a hop step, almost tripping on something, though it was also from his surprise "Real humans, are you sure? When I was younger, I was told there were very few of them. the A.C.U.R. use to come more frequently, they would talk to us, and Mother Raven." He slows and stops, his voice has a small quality to it.
"Werehumans wild
Werehumans tame,
Elven folk,
windego,
Troll with thick mane.
Yeti of snow,
Yeti of hills,
Merfolk with tridents
and fae of the Dells.

'Ware of the Bunyip,
and Leprechaun,
Grimlin,
and Harpies who seek to do harm.
All of these and more do make,
Antichthon humanoid ranks."

It was something taught long ago by one who was something like Solstice, though not a real lore keeper. Rhymes were easy to remember, and since Nero had a like for singing it only made it easier to recall these things. Much of what he does actually know is not very useful though.
