In the world of Antichthon Dragons fly, and unicorns prance.
It's a world of magic, fluid and vast. Counter Earth, So similar to our own...but not.
Here man is uncommon and dwell together in small settlements.
Here, elves, dinosaurs and myth are real, commonplace!
In Antichthon, Animals talk, think, and learn together. It's no surprise, but do expect the unexpected.
As mankind does on Earth, it does in the counter Earth. Animals fall to weapons of various kinds, any quadruped must be wary.

Come down to a cove, not quite a Valley, at the base of the mountains. Rich and green, untainted, but for a settlement of about 50 humanoids whom live further south. A forest fire caught near them, which pushed them away, but drove out much of the larger game. Small game is abundant though, in this virgin forest, riddled with clearings.
This beautiful shallow Valley is about 150 miles across. cutting a track across the western side, close to the mountains is a large river, which runs to the base like a giant tear, collecting at the base of the mountains to a lake, shining a blue wonder. The hills at the base of the mountain are large, and before the land settled itself volcanic activity caused many natural caverns to form, some of which are interconnected by tunnels. There are three tunnels that lead out away from the main collection, one only small animals, perhaps the size of a fox could get through, and another is blocked by rock fall. It leads under the river. The last, large enough for two wolves atop one another to walk, leads out to a rock formation in middle land, marked by a clearing and a young cherry tree, not yet baring fruit.
The rest, not large hills, but not plains, is rolling forest covered hill. Oak, walnut, Hickory, and Maple are the main trees found there. Pine, poplar and Cherry woods intermingle, but are not as present. Where the Fire had consumed new Birch, Beech and Pines are springing up. The young trees are no more than 2 feet high right now. Ground Cover is still struggling to come up.
Common ground and fruit bearing plants are wild strawberries, Queen Ann's Lace root, cattail tubers at the edges of the lake, Huckleberries in the high hills, black and raspberry, Young tart cherries and small sweet apples, a random small grove of apricot trees from birds eating fruit.

This is the land Cross Roads has come to populate!

Crossroads land was not always populated by wolves however. It was full of cougar, bobcat, bear, moose and game. A few wolves who had no home banded together and in their strength and will they chased away many large predators. Together they came, and though each was from another land, another life, another rule...they became one.
Each of the wolves, but ten all told, expressed their tales. Two young pairs searching for a home. One young female saw how they were, and how they worked together. She confided to her mate what she believed and he addressed the older ones.
"From across each track of land we've come here. From many different paths we've trod, but here together we now stand. We should call ourselves Cross Roads, and take in any, like ourselves. Everyone deserves chance, peace, and friendly faces to call home."
A few older ones were not sure, and stated that there would be those who turned away, or found them fools. The younger were not disheartened, and said that each must choose how they will stride.
None of the elders of that groups, which there were three of them, between the ages of 7-9 wished to rule this new land, because much still needed done to take it as their territory. The young pair who suggested it, rose to the challenge and took the older mated pair as Betas. The last young couple became Gamas. The last four were members of the pack, as they chose to be. They knew that the age old pack, across the River, would not like them there as a clan.
Slowly, the young pack built it's empire and grew. A few other wolves, loners all joined the growing pack.
Their Rivals did resent them, in heir newness, their naive nature, their open kindness. Sure it would break them down before long. They were strong, generations strong and valued knowledge of war and land. They would send splinters to heckle Cross Roads, but as the new pack grew the attacks became less and less.
Now, as the old Alphas drew to twilight years, and were soon to pass a youth who had joined them near the beginning, named Tris, stepped into the role of Alpha Female.
Together, with her Mate, Cross roads will grow and flourish, even with dangers that lurk, and enemies threaten. With the fire having chased away large game, the pack hunting together, thus some community time, was lost. This must be made up, for the pack to stay as one.

Tris bows to you, bottle green eyes closing "Welcome friend! I hope you will find safety with our family, we can be odd, we have our faults, but we are one."

Chapter One

" It has been nearly two years since that tragic event. Two years since everything fell apart, and since Akil and I had learned our places in this world." Mumbled a white wolf aloud as she gazed over a cliff out looking a large valley. Her gray tipped tail flicked silently as a light breeze ruffled her fur. Her light blue eyes gazed ahead, unblinking, as she watched birds flying in and out of the wooded area. " To think it all started with a story...a story of origins." She whispered while closing her eyes and sighing sadly.
...

An ocean side pack of wolves busily hurried around, preparing for a great festival. The Festival of Decens was of great to importance to these wolves, as it was a rite of passing to the young becoming adults. In a small cave over looking the activity rested the two wolves whom all this effort is for, a slender, white pelted female and a robust, golden pelted male. "Solstice, come on! We need to get moving, Dad will skin us if we don't get out there." muttered the male. The white fea just rolled her eyes and continued to lick the tip of her tail. " You worry to much Akil, plus I'm in to hurry to 'Grow-up' " She said silently. Akil sighed and looked at his sister with worry before sitting next to her and gazing out the front entrance. " Sol.... every female had to do it... it is dad's way of asserting himself as Alpha Male." He said sadly, taking no pride in what he was saying. Solstice stood up angrily and stalked to the front of the cave, eyes fixed and glaring at Akil the entire time. " Well he has no right to 'Assert' himself with me!! For Fenros' sake Akil, I'm his daughter..." She yelled before turning and padding out of the cave with fury.

The sun's light bounced off of Solstice's pelt as Akil rushed after her. She gave him a subtle smile before taking a deep breath and striding down the rough path t he rest of the pack, changing her entire body to give off the calm, relaxed feeling as she walked among them. Akil shook his head and followed his sister's lead as they went off to search for their father. Their father stood upon a large stone, barking orders like he does so well. A smile reached his grayed muzzle as he saw the pair walking towards him. " Ahh! If it isn't the pups of the hour!" He chanted proudly. The siblings didn't say anything as they sat and stared up at their father. " Now now you two, you guys should be excited! Specially you Solstice." He said with a sly wink. Solstice looked at the ground to hide the anger in her eyes, as Akil nodded and looked around. " How much longer do you think it will be? " He asked, trying to pull the conversation off of his sister. " It should be done by nightfall... so be sure you are both ready by then. We can't be having any cold feet on the big night now can we? " He said before turning and leaping off the rock. Akil watched him walk off before turning to Solstice, who was still glaring into the ground with her claws digging deeply into the dry soil. " Come, lets go find somewhere to relax, we have a few shadows before nightfall... " He said as he stood and started to walk off towards the river. Solstice reluctantly followed, her mind on the night ahead.

Akil and Solstice rested by the river, watching fish taunt and play while awaiting to be summoned. A young gray speckled wolf came up bowing his head as he looked around nervously. Akil nodded back and looked at his sister as she slowly rose. " Lets get this over with... " She whispered while following the messenger, with Akil tagging behind her. Within minutes they were in the clearing before, standing before the same rock that they had previously seen their father on. He was back in his place, with a crown of thorns upon his head, a symbol of strength. His smile was smug as he thought of what the night ahead had in store. When Akil and Solstice had taken their places he cleared his throat and looked out into the crowd. " Tonight is a proud moment! My children will take their places in this world, as respectable adults! But before we can begin I must tell you all a story, as in our traditions. It is a story of our origins, and more importantly... the origins of our howl. " He said before taking a deep breath.

"In the beginning there was only one planet. A giant rock floating around the void-less expanse of space, with its large bodies of water overruling the heavily forested lands, and towering mountains. For millions of years there was nothing but silence, but then something happened. Small subtle creature floating in the deep, dark water slowly started to change. They undergo-ed something humans referred to as evolution. Over the course of billions of years they began to swim and hunt, and then another million years they learned how to go and survive on land. As the course of history went along these creatures kept changing, slowly adapting to the new land, some began eating plants while others continued to hunt and eat meat of others. Now hundreds of creatures inhabit this world, all adapted in their own way, all with their own ideas about the world and their origins. Ours... Ours is different, for us it all started with a howl....." He started. He was about to continue when a gasp was heard in the crowd. An omega had stumbled into the area, blood was seeping from various wounds in his body. " Humans! Humans are here! " He grunted as he coughed up blood and fell. Not even a second passed before a gun shot was heard, and another wolf dropped.

There was mass confusion as wolves scrambled, they hit each other, pushed, shoved, but as each gun shot was heard another wolf dropped. Blood mixed with the soil as Akil and Solstice bolted for the nearest bush placed at the base of a large tree. They quickly dove in and turned to watch as the humans cut through the pack with a fury of knives and guns. Some wolves tried to fight back, including their father, but to no avail. In just a short time they all lay dead, the humans smiled and patted each other on the back while murmuring in their strange language. They quickly set forth to skinning the wolves whose pelts weren't ruined by their harsh gun fire. Akil growled lowly and started to move to interact with the intruders. Solstice bit the scruff of his neck and shook her head. " No Akil! They will kill you too. " She whispered. " I have to do something! I'd rather be dead than watch them taint our kin... " He shot back while trying to crawl out again. Solstice whimpered and grabbed him by the scruff of the neck again and pulled him violently back, causing him to hit his head against the tree and pass out. Unfortunately for Solstice, this cause Akil to fall on her making it so she can't move and it also cause enough noise that a human started to slowly walk towards their hiding place, gun raised high and ready.

The human stepped on a twig and several birds shot out of the bush and caused him to scream and fall to the ground. The other pointed and laughed at him before giving him a hand and starting to pull carcasses as they walked away. Solstice breathed a sigh of relief and tried to shift Akil off of her, but to no avail. She whimpered again before laying her head down and closing her eyes, wanting to rest and wait for Akil to wake up.

...

Chapter 2

Solstice's eyes continued to watch the valley from her perch. Tail flicking subconsciously as the memories flooded back. “ It all began with a howl, our origin, our rites, our lives... The funny thing is no one ever told us it always ends with a howl too...” She muttered as her muzzle lifted to glare at the bright sky above her.

A shudder, a twitch, and an overly annoying grass hopper resting on the bridge of the adolescent white wolf. A fast paw came to meet the grass hopper, whom was lucky enough to jump off right before impact and unlucky enough to jump into the maw of a bat, Solstice woke with a jolt at her own paw pounding her already irritated muzzle. With groggy eyes she gazed around and quickly realized that Akil was no longer on top of her, matter of fact he was no where to be seen. With a groan Solstice slowly stood up begging that her sore muscles support her weight, a pathetic yawn followed as she started to sniff around for her brother's scent, which proved to be useless thanks to the blood of her relatives and friends being so thick around the area. With a saddened sigh Solstice howled and began her journey north hoping that her brother would head to the nearest wolf pack.

Solstice walked for what seemed like ages, along the river, continuing towards where she hoped would be another wolf pack so that she could explain the situation and maybe even find her brother. Her ears flicked as she stopped at the sound of a nearby bush rustling. A growl erupted from her throat as she lowered her form to the ground, poised to strike at whatever is in the awkward plant. “ Whoa there girl” Muttered a small bird as he slowly walked out form under the bush, his wings held in front of him like a shield. The bird had deep black feathers all except the tail which was dipped in a vibrant white, and he stopped a few meters away as he observed the overly cautious wolf. “ Your Solstice are you not?” he asked with a tilt of his head. Solstice merely nodded at the strange bird, not recognizing the species. “ Good, I have been searching for you for weeks. My name is Erro, my proper title is Erro de Veritas, and I am a guardian.”
