Well, apparently an older MSN virus is running rampant again across the net. Or at least this board. Several board members have already been infected by the MSN virus. As such, they will randomly chat everyone and say "rofl - *INsert link here*" by clicking this link, you get your computer infected. Currently, I haven't found anyway to fix it, so beware. If you get infected, change your name to make sure everyone else knows. |

Or just log out. Hell, I'd relish getting a virus, just to make the tech people at school get screwed over. |

Ack. So far, it hasn't had TOO much of a negative effect on my compy, since we have a good deal of AntiVirus stuff and a router, but I fear for what may come next. |

Hum, this community computer hasn't shown anything, so it seems that it is free from that virus... Not sure though, but it seems that it is not infected anymore. |

First, whenever you signed on to MSN, you would automatically send messages containing the virus to all contacts. Secondly, once contracted, the virus will turn off Windows Security or whatever it's called, leaving your compy open to other viruses and such unless you have a router or a powerful AntiVirus. |

Fortunatly, I'm not on MSN alot so it's unlikely it will happen to me. Plus, my dad's anti-virus/anti-spam programs are paranoid like nobody's buisness. The security settings once prevented me from going to Google for some reason.. |

See, I KNEW getting into Instasnt Messaging would be a bad idea, but I've gotten like 50 "OMFG Y U NO HAVE MSN?!/1!/1??>!!" PM's, so I relented. At any rate, The simple solution is to not click on the link! In fact, if anyone sends me a link i'll just say "Virus, or are you actually ____?" If, as you say, it's automatically sent, there will be no reply, and I know toi ignore it, and inform the sender they've been infected. Abd the only people I knwo on MSN are Siro, Okami and Kirote, so the odds of me getting it are minimal in the first place! |

Y'know, this topic should be more of a tech support or some such, instead of complaining and/or "Ha! I didn't get it!" In such times of crisis, we should support each other and help those who were caught unawares by the virus. So, let me just point out that at this point, a System Restoration will not work. Not only does today's being February the 1st wipe out any restore points, but the virus also turns off System Restoration. |
