For all those poor people who were in the line of fire in Virginia Tech. I was unaware of it until 2:35 pm when I had finally finished my psychology homework, so I'm a bit depressed that this happened. Pretty soon, the copycats will be out again in order to kill for whatever weird reasons and cause campuses like mine to increase security all the way to the maximum. |

I saw this on /. today, found the article. OT: Slashdot.org for those who don't know the /. Really really sad, it's a pity the douchebag, Jack Thompson, is already out there claiming that games made the guy do it. ... Day of a shooting, and your already rambling like a stupid idiot, eh, Jack? Way to make a bad day worse, you heartless, despicable idiot. |

Jesus, is EVERYONE on a killing spree now a days? I just got back from English tutor, and heard it on the radio on the way home. it's sick, but I'm pretty sure he planned this out, like what's-his-name did in the Tell-Tale Heart. |

I just found it on Yahoo and read up on it, then went to wiki for more links to information. yeah, it's sad and all, but then again, most of the time when some guy goes apeshit and shoot up his school its sad. agreed, eh? |

...that's one issue I can't stand. Games have RATINGS for a REASON. In most stores I go to, buying an M-Rated game (i.e., a game that COULD make a kid do this sort of thing) requires government I.D., or permission from a parent who has government I.D. Sadly, most parents whose kids want M-Rated games don't have the guts to say "NO." There's not many people I hate. Jack Thompson is one of those people. |

I just learned about it fifteen minutes ago. Frankly, the rate of which humankind is degrading is astonishing. Him blaming it on games is worse. At the rate we are moving, I wouldn't be surprised of we wiped out ourselves someday. |

*Sigh* Yep, that's what sets humans apart, I haven't come across any other thing on this earth that has wiped out so much of it's own population (not to mention decideding they can't do it fast enough and developing new technology to do it faster). Sickening... |

What I don't get is how he had that many rounds on him to shoot up those people with just a handgun. After all, the average amount on his victims that survived was 3 or more bullets, and I doubt that he could have been that troublesome to take down awhile reloading magazines. Not to mention the fact that he would have to know how to handle a gun and have good aim in order to kill a person in a single shot, none of which was even described in the latest article in Yahoo. And just as I foresaw, there are copycats like that bomb scare in Texas. Even if it's fake, a lot of people at campuses will be watching their backs and begin to be distrustful again. |

It's the one big flaw is legalising guns: Whenever you get pissed, grab a gun from your father's locker and shoot up your school. It's NUTS! This article explains it better than anything I can whip out. |

the thing is that you guys aren't looking at is what the guy who did the shooting was like. they had reports up on yahoo and such about him; dude was a nutcase. he didn't talk to anyone, he wrote several disturbing plays for his creative writing class, and left a message about hating the rich kids and the women on his campus, saying that they were the reason he went and did that. Dude was supposed to get psycology, but they never followed through and actually gave it to him. sad, the ones who really need it never get it. Also, the investigators said that he had bought his firearms legally, and he was a US citizen at the time, so he was checked out to have them. Sure, they should probably have screened a bit better, but it's not like he went into his father's closet, took out a shotgun and stormed the school. Apparently it was a bit more thought out than that. It's not really a question of what's wrong with the entire society, either; it's about what's wrong with the few nutcases in society who could do something like that if they aren't stopped early on. The plays the kid wrote were more than evidence he was a bit nutty, but they didn't do anything about it. had they put him with a shrink, things might have turned out differently, i'd assume. Games aren't even in the question; from what i gathered, the kid probably didn't even play them. |

True, but the fact that he's able to buy that gun means that there's something seriously wrong with the system. Look at it this way, if he never had that gun, the most he would be able to do is to take a cardboard cutter (I've been reading this phrase alot lately) and maybe cut up a few students, maybe kill one or two, at most, as opposed to nearly 2 dozen. |

I'm from Louisiana, so I'm obviously AGAINST gun control (hehe sterotyping myself), but restricting ACCESS to guns isn't the answer. If someone's desperate enough, they can GET a gun- making them harder to buy isn't the answer. Also, I personally wouldn't feel safe if I knew the gun cabinet was empty- at the first sign of a robber, the first thing I think about is that AR-15, and if it wern't there, it'd be a lot harder for me to sleep at night. |

Why? Why did he have to be South Korean? Why not North? I'm getting picked on in my school because I'm of South Korean descent. It Sucks! I know this guy that was on break from the very campus and now he has to go back for phsycology tests! I really hope that this+Massacre doesn't put a stronger ban on (I live in NY so I'm not affected by Arnold's law) |

Yes, but making them harder to buy means that the only people who are able to get them are those who are connected to the underground markets, that is to say, the chances of a student getting a gun is close to nil. Furthermore, even if he did know where to get a gun, odds are that the gun is more expensive than an Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and a Wii put together. I seriously doubt that he can afford that. |
