Welcome to another fictional writing by Solar Zero, featuring my first REAL attempt at making an original story for myself and characters of a few friends I have gained across my lifetime and set in my own universe of parameters and dimensions. Comments, critique, and the rest are all of course welcome, but I'm throwing this out here since I like to feel like I might get a reader that is interested at some point. Originally this was supposed to be an online comic submission but due to problems with my original artist (He has gained a life and lost a vast amount of free time) I have taken the liberty of turning what I've written into a novel version instead. Thanks for stopping by, now sit back, pull up a drink and enjoy the reading (hopefully). Merging Paths Chapter 1: Catch us if you can! = Completed Chapter 2: Thunderstruck - Return to the Basics = Completed Chapter 3: Twisted Genesis = Currently Writing Chapter 4: ??? Merging Paths: Chapter 1 Catch us if you can! The streets of the downtown area of Midgard bustled with naturally as the sun rose above the just above the city, marking the peak of the afternoon as the businesses began getting ready for their incoming rushes of commerce. Most people went about their duties and free time but among the crowd in the city there were always few that seemed to be out of sync with what the rest of the world was doing. An instance to attest to that was the young teen that was standing against a corner building that had been doing so for over the last hour. The people passing gave note to him but none said anything and continued on their own business, too busy to care what this stand-about was doing, too cautious to come closer to him just based on how he looked. Even in the current day and age, not many people walked around with cobalt hair or had such piercing ruby eyes. The teen himself didn't seem to keep much mind to the constant gazes placed upon him, too busy looking up and down the street every so often and keeping tabs on the time with his wristwatch. His responses to the world seemed to be blocked out mostly by a pair of headphones, the faint sound of a musical tunes carrying to the ears of anyone that came close enough to him. All that was seen was that he was apparently looking or waiting for someone as he once more looked at his watch. "One ten... late as usual... haaa, why do I even bother showing up on time?" the teen muttered out loud to himself as he looked up into the sun as his mind shifted off again. 'Here we are again. Waiting for another deal to go by with no idea who or what we're working with, and once again I get to be the guy to make sure we have an exit in case things go south. It's always the same thing... day in, day out. It wasn't always like this from what I was told; it's all cause of that stupid war,' the blue haired male thought as he looked up as he noticed the crowd parting ways while someone seemed to be rushing through it. Placing his headphones to the side as he recognized the person that was running, he still had one thought in his mind. 'How did I end up where I'm at in all this?' The runner stopped in front of the teen, a bit of a smile on his face as he shouldered the bag he was carrying as the male looked at him with a slightly annoyed expression. "Took your time, huh? Did you get the package?" the teen asked uncrossing his arms as he stood up straight. Even then it was clear he wasn't on the taller side of things. The other simply continued to smile as he held up the bag that was over his shoulder. "I always aim to please Solar. Come on, do I ever let you down?" the runner said fixing his goggles and the front of his hair, the blonde bangs having ruffled into his natural black hair while he had been running. "Only when it comes to being on time for something Typhoon. And why do we really need to use these names again? I swear it's a waste of time," the teen named Solar said as the two began to leave into the crowd, standing out still even while moving with the masses. "Awww, don't be like that Sol'. You might come to like the name later, granted yours will never be as cool as mine but that's just how it is," Typhoon replied with a chuckle, his mood seeming to be in high spirits though he kept looking over his shoulder. "I say it cause it doesn't relate much to my actual name like yours does Ty'... what held you up anyway?" Solar said finally marking on the question of why he had waited an extra hour for his contact to show up. The two paused for a moment as they made it to the end of another street block while they waited for the light, Typhoon's focus seemingly elsewhere as he replied. “Oh you know... snacks among other things...” Typhoon muttered quietly as Solar facepalmed in disbelief. “During a mission Ty', really? Wait... … what do you mean 'other things'?” the teen asked, fearing he already knew the answer. As if to affirm his beliefs, there seemed to be a panic of people behind the two teens as at least four people carrying weapons were rushing in their direction. As the men came into full view, one of them pointed at Typhoon before calling out angrily. “Freeze you damn conartist!” The two stood motionless for a moment to take into account what was said before the light changed and the two bolted through the crowd. The screams of people were now heard all around amongst the two teenagers as the people scrambled to move out of the way of both the pursuers and the pursued. Solar found his annoyance with his cohort becoming more strained as the two ran down an alley to try and ditch the crowd. “Other things huh?!” Solar cried out angrily, making use to throw whatever he could behind him to the ground to slow men behind them down. “I swear I only punched one of them before taking the bag! I swear they're more upset than they should be,” Typhoon replied, still taking a relaxed approach to the current turn of events. “You were supposed to pay them for what was in the bag you arse!” said Solar. “Yeeeaaaaah... and then where would I have gotten the snack money from?” replied Typhoon. Making it out of the alley, the two once again weaved their path within the people gathering in the streets. Turning and branching paths, the streets of Midgard had become a maze and try as the two might, their pursuers were relentless in their chase. It wasn't until they finally found an area that was much less crowded did their chasers start opening fire upon them. “I do hope you had a plan for this after your moment of getting us into trouble yet again,” Solar yelled out as he found himself sliding under a truck that had blocked off another alley, just missing a bullet that had gone overhead. “Of course, I always have a cunning plan,” Ty said as he kicked another dumpster back at their pursuers. The walls opened up into the street, the two watching the wall as they turned another corner and came skidding to a halt. If being pursued by the dealers after the bag was bad, then things had suddenly turned worse Solar thought as they looked at a new group of three different people. The group ahead was dressed in military grade armor, electronic pulse rifles were laid on their back, their visors down on their helmets as they looked back at the two teens in confusion. The clothes said it all though: They were Commandant troopers. The thugs behind the two caught sight of the new group and quickly pulled back before being spotted as well as the closest troop pulled up his visor to take a better look at Solar and Typhoon. “Hey... aren't these two those wanted kids?” the trooper said slowly reaching behind him for his rifle. Another trooper turned his head to the wall they had been checking out which had been marked with a bulletin board full of wanted posters, Solar and Typhoon's picture up in the front as he turned back to his mates with a smile. “This is are lucky day boys, Troublesome Duo Number One is ours for the capture. Get them!” he said gleefully, quickly grabbing his rifle as well. With that point the two kids took no time to wait as they made a mad dash back in the other direction. This only proved the point though as the troops began chase. “Still waiting to hear that cunning plan of yours Ty'!” Solar yelled out now in a major panic from what had just happened. The streets and the walls were beginning to blur from exhaustion from how much they had been running. Try as he'd like to believe, the blue haired teen just wasn't as athletic as his counterpart and it was beginning to show as his pace was starting to slow every now and then. “Lost it in the transfer of pursuers, try again when we find cover,” Typhoon replied as he kicked down a door into a warehouse and closed it behind them. The two took the stairs up, putting some distance between the troopers before getting out the backdoor and stopping behind the cover of a few dustbins. Solar breathed deeply as he tried to catch his breath. “This... is getting... us nowhere fast Ty'...” Solar wheezed out, clinging to his side as he looked out from cover. The troops themselves hadn't exited the building yet, but given their level of being wanted, it wouldn't be long before the area was completely aware that the Troublesome Duo had been spotted. The Commandant would be on their tail heavily soon enough. “We could always fight them and be done with it. I'm pretty sure those three won't pose too much of a threat,” Typhoon said straightening up and crinkling his neck to the left. The thought was there of course and had already been playing on Solar's mind, but knowing what would be said back at home was enough to keep him from following that plan straight away. “I'd rather not raise our bounty any higher... I think three million credits is enough for a guy that hasn't even hit seventeen,” was Solar's only reply that would come out. His partner was quick to quip back as he looked up and ducked down as the soldiers made it outside and started searching again. “Well, the table is open for suggestions before we end up with new holes in our body.” “I could always try a flash maneuver.” “Sol'... no one wants to see you naked in any way shape or form... like ever,” Typhoon said with a smile as his friend gave him him a look of pure anger, “But in all seriousness for that, I didn't bring those shades to block out light from something like that.” The enemies were starting to bare down on them, they were just about to run when they realized that behind them was a dead-end. The steps were now echoing closer as Solar clenched his fist and got ready to stand up. 'This... does not bode well,' Solar thought. “Hands up kids. No need to get yourselves killed over any of this. Just be a good couple of lads and come out,” a voice called out into the alleyway. The sound was muffled by the helmet the person was wearing, but the design itself was just as the voice sounded and made to be intimidating, though the other two only had normal visor helmets. Taking a deep breath, Solar stood up and broke his cover, followed closely by Typhoon. The three armed soldiers simply drew closer as to make sure there was no way through them. “Heh... easiest promotion I ever got Sam,” the one on the left said keeping his rifle raised and pointed at Solar's head with a grin. “Probably the only one you've ever gotten Rick,” the one on the right said with a snide laugh, his look still giving focus as he kept his sights on Typhoon. Both the boys raised their hands into the air, keeping them high as the bag in Ty's hand hit the floor. “Well, it was nice knowing you Solar... though I'm surprised. Usually we have a good twenty or so people on us right now. What gives? We lose face to the Commandant? The Troublesome Duo not good enough to warrant the entire military on us anymore?” the teen asked in a mocking ton which gave him a very concerned look from Solar. It was one thing to know when to joke or cast demoralizing remarks, but at a time like this was just about all his friend could stand. “Ha! Call for back up for just you two kids?” the soldier called Rick said with another smile plastered to his face, “And then we'd have to split that lovely reward with even more douches.” It was clear that the words Rick said were a mistake as both his squad mates looked at him like he was a pure idiot; Solar and Typhoon on the other hand were now grinning heavily. “Reeeaaaallly?” the two said in unison. “I just had to be paired with you today didn't I Rick?” Sam said sighing as he set his sights on Typhoon once again. “Get them down now, we can't afford to let them escape!” the lead guard said throwing his hand forward as the command to open fire was given. Time seemed to stand still for a moment as the bullets hailed out of the blaster's muzzle, each shot aimed more accurately to the two teen's arms and legs just as Typhoon brought both his hands down ahead of him. In what would have been a good tactic to bring the two in alive, the bullets themselves now simply hung in the air ahead of Typhoon as he continued to grin. “Gravity Well,” was uttered by the smiling teen as the bullets suddenly shot straight down into the ground, burying themselves in the concrete. Even as the two soldiers continued to unleash a flurry of fire, their attacks only continued to meet with an invisible wall before plummeting into the dirt beneath them. It wasn't long before both of the two fugitives were laughing lightly behind their invisible shield. “Sorry boys, but you're gonna have to do better than that,” Solar said clutching his side as the two troops ceased firing. “I dunno Sol', I think that WAS their best. I mean, it generally is when I think about it,” Ty said putting one hand down, but still keeping the other up for stray shots. Both the two men were seething as the Solar and Typhoon tried to recompose themselves; being mocked this badly was definitely not what they had expected when they had come this far. All they could do though was growl and stare angrily. “They're looking down on us...” the trooper named Nick said, cursing a bit under his breath while the kids looked on at them. It was only when the the last trooper spoke did Solar and Typhoon stop laughing and once again feel like things had gone from bad to worse. The laughing that came from that muzzled helmet was enough to make Solar's hair stand up on end. “Well then let's stop giving them a reason to laugh. They're elementals, switch to the Anti-Element rounds; those won't be stopped so easily,” the commander said as he too finally drew his weapon and loaded it with a violet clip. Both the other two men did the same as the two teens backed up until they hit the wall behind them. “Oh... well... shit...” was all Solar could sputter as he tried to grasp just what the hell happened to turn the tides this much. “That thing, you know, when words come out of your mouth... Yeah, you should probably not do that for the sake of us living ever again,” Typhoon said looking around desperately for something to use for a shield but finding nothing in the shade of the alley, “ You know, provided we actually survive this time. Any ideas? Now would be a god time to throw them out.” There was nothing there. The visors on the commandant units made blinding them impossible, firing anything else would only provoke fire quicker. Solar could only try and keep his eyes open as he was staring down a barrel that was about to end his story. “I'd honestly settle for divine intervention right now and we all know I lost faith in the Gods a long time ago... or anything to you know, not die,” Solar muttered as he felt himself shrinking. As much as he wasn't into showing fear he could feel himself losing his cool to his emotions as he finally closed his eyes tightly. “Wanted dead or alive... say goodnight kiddies,” the commanding officer called out as he opened fire. Solar felt his body being flung to the side as yells of pain, anguish and death rang through the air, along with his own feelings of pain. Yet it was but a brief moment when he hit the ground and then it was gone. The younger teen could only think that if this was death that it wasn't nearly as painful as he thought it was but as the screams of pain echoed on he found himself feeling less hurt and more scared of the voices around him. Opening his eyes he felt like was both a blessing and a curse in one point. Both Typhoon and Solar had not been hit at all, having been shoved out of the way at the last moment thanks to Typhoon's quick thinking. But what was left was a sight of pure death as all three soldiers laid slain on the ground with four other men standing behind where they had been. It took only a few more moments to realize who the men were though as they walked over the bodies and toward the duo: they were the original mercenaries they had been running from. Typhoon slowly got to his feet and walked toward the men, Solar still struggling to stand. “Ha... ha ha.... I guess divine intervention comes true sometimes. Thanks for the he-,” the teen had begun to say as he came close but was quickly cut off as his face met the end of a long blade. “Save the flattery, we didn't come to help you thief. We came to either have you pay up or hand over the bag, less you want to end up like them... granted we could just end you now and take what you have for the all the pain you've caused us today,” the man said in a heavy tone. Typhoon backed up to the wall again and after a quick glance at his weakened body gave a small sigh as he looked back at the group. “Alright. Okay, the only problem is that I don't have it all... not all we agreed upon...” Typhoon finally said in confession to their new captors. “Just how much did you spend that we were supposed to give them?” Solar said questioning just how much his partner could spend on food in a short time now that he had a moment to think. “Uh... About Ten and some change,” Typhoon replied, taking out the the money that he had left which was still bundled in the same binder. Solar was quick to grab his friend in anger as he felt himself finally snap. “You made us go through all of that cause you spent ten lousy freakin' credits?!” The male however didn't take long to separate the two of them and was quick to snatch the money from Typhoon's hand with a grin. Walking back over the bodies with his men, he tossed his blade casually at Solar who instinctively reached out and caught it without thinking. “I can deal with this much being short, but as for what you owe me for this entire day and wasting my time,” the male said with a bit of another snide smile as he waved his hand. Another one of the mercenaries' drew forward and while Solar and Typhoon still had no idea what was going on, found themselves being the center stage of a snapshot. “I'm sure taking the fall for our little rampage in saving you shall be good enough. No hard feelings, but we all have to find ways to live out here,” he called out before they were all suddenly out of sight leaving the duo alone. It took several minutes to work out what had happened to them before Solar finally found himself hurling in a corner of the alley way. His insides burned as his head continued to spin uncontrollably. The bodies of the soldiers and the picture that had just been taken were etching themselves into his mind. “D... Did we just get framed for murder Tyson...?” Solar sputtered weakly, leaning terribly against the wall as he dropped the sword that had done the damage. “It... looks that way... no more codenames huh?” Typhoon asked, only getting a small shake as a reply. The teen leaned over Solar and hoisted him up on his shoulder, keeping his friend steady as he walked them away from the scene as fast as he could. “Don't go there Sol'-... James... Let's just get you back home... hope that the others don't find out about this,” Tyson said trying to comfort James the best he could as a low ringing came from James's pocket before a song seemed to break out in low volume. 'She called, we talked, I screamed, she cried, This is the hell that is my life, She called, we talked, I laughed, she tries, This is the hell that is my life' “... Mon's calling...” James said quietly to the ground as he kept his head low as the found themselves in the streets once more before the ringing ceased before he could answer it. “I swear your phone makes light of everything that ever happens to us,” was all Tyson could reply with as they walked back in silence, drowning out into the world of people around them. The trip back home was left in silence, passing through to the outskirts and into the slums and suburbs of the city, the two walked side by side after James had managed to get his legs to work on their own again without support. Walking down one last alley, they came up to a small looking shack of a house. Typhoon pushed the door open and dropped the bag on the table as Solar walked in and closed the door behind them. “And finally home. All in all that could of gone worse, huh James?” Tyson said as he looked back to James but found himself staring at nothing. Turning around again he saw his friend already half way upstairs. “I... don't want to think about it... I don't even remember their faces but those screams of those soldiers are etched into my mind... I feel sick...” James said weakly, holding his hand over his face and eyes as if trying to shut out what had happened and failing to do so. Tyson could only sigh as he beckoned Solar up the stairs. “I know man... The world is screwed up, neither of us saw that coming. But we have to move on and keep living alright? So live a little not only for your friends but also your enemies, otherwise their deaths are meaningless,” Tyson said as he sat down on the couch, “Go get some rest James.” “Yeah... thanks Ty',” was all James could manage to say as he continued up the stairs. Taking the first door on his left, the teen found himself in a small room with nothing more than a chest of drawers and a bed. After looking inside for a few moments, James trekked inside and crashed his body ontop of the bed as he looked up through the glass of the window. 'The world is screwed up... understatement of a lifetime, Ty...' Solar thought bitterly as he closed his eyes, 'How much longer do we endure all this stuff? I'm seventeen and have a bounty on my head that could probably feed the entire continent of Veincell; all cause the damn Commandant holds one mean grudge.' The screams seemed to dull out and filter as James managed to finally pass out. Edited by Solar Zero, Aug 17 2012, 12:00 PM.

Merging Paths: Chapter 2 Thunderstruck - Return to the Basics James awoke late that night in a panic stricken fashion. Unsure why as he had woken himself up, James fumbled in his bed to find something to illuminate the area around him, cursing a bit when he opted to simply create a small orb of light in his hand when he recalled that he could do things like that after falling out of it. His eyes burned as he looked around, trying to recall the past day's events and felt the numbing chill pass over him as he once again heard the faint echos of screaming in his mind, nearly making him scream himself. "Gahh... haa... haah..." James gasped as he felt his mind swirl as the light in his hand shattered, replaced suddenly by the sound of thunder and the flash of lightning outside. Shaken, James slowed his breathing as he moved toward the window and looked outside as he saw the rain fall heavily outside. "... … Just like that day..." James muttered to himself as he closed his eyes to the lightning's light that continued to fill his room, "It rained like this too huh..." James' mind simply couldn't think straight as he tried to remember the past of himself. Everything up to that point when he met Tyson was indeed nothing more than a blur. His parents, his home, his life as a child; all of his memories were shrouded in the same white and black lightning that was around him now. Only one thing about his past stood out to him and that was a pair of vibrant eyes that had continued to follow him when he had been separated from his family. Those eyes that simply hovered in the darkness, continuously watching him as he ran as much as he could. Only after a week of running and by chance meeting Tyson did the eyes suddenly vanish but even now they continued to haunt his memories as if to block any more of a recollection than that. James shook his head as he pushed the memory away again. "That was nearly seven years James... there was nothing there, so let it go already... nothing..." James said to himself as he opened his eyes and looked outside once more. His eyes dilated in a sense of fear as another clasp of lightning flashed; a person was standing outside on the roof across the street and staring at him with those eyes. The same dark stare that haunted his dreams was staring at him yet in another flash of light they and the silhouette of the person they belonged to were gone. James rubbed his burning eyes again as he backed up to see nothing outside before diving back into bed and drowning himself under his sheets. "... I hate lightning..." It was nearly the afternoon before James even felt like waking up again. The air was thin from the autumn heat and below he could still hear the others starting a late breakfast. James simply turned on his side as he heard the steps creak as someone was coming up stairs. "Time to wake up James! Shower time!" "Wha-WARBLRAAAGH!!!" James sat bolt up with his eyes open but it was all to late as a large amount of frigid water came crashing over him, followed shortly by a levitating bucket. The panic and the sudden chill quickly turned bad as he found himself once again on the floor after falling out of his bed. Looking up as he removed the pail all he could see through a screen of watered eyes was his best friend's smiling face. "Sleep well?" Tyson said with a grin of pure amusement that was holding in laughter from his usual prankster attitude. The answer to his question came in the form of James' pillow to his face. "Not remotely. You arse," James said shaking the water out of his hair. He took a moment to think of what to do next but as his mind was blank he took the opportunity to dive back into bed once he was dry. "Not to kill your lazy streak now James, but Raymond is calling us down and if you sleep in any more than this you're gonna miss breakfast," Tyson said tossing the pillow back at his best mate who simply caught it before curling up under his wet blankets further. "So what?" James said loudly to avoid his stomachs growls being overheard in a direct response to be stubborn for his rude awakening. Tyson sighed as he leaned against the doorway as he began to walk out but stopped short in the hall with one last word to put out. "Alright, I'll tell them. But just so you know, what Monica made this morning was panca-," Tyson had begun to say but was immediately cut off as he felt himself slammed into the wall as he was pushed out of the way. James had suddenly sprung up without warning and rocketed down the stairs. Tyson followed suit shortly after recovering from the pain and shock of having his face meet plaster. "That hurts..." Tyson grumbled, still rubbing his nose as he sat down at the table. James had already pulled a plate up to him and was working on a stack of pancakes while another man simply stayed behind the newspaper he was reading. "You should of expected as much by now Ty'," the male said not taking note to the other two, his interests seeming to keep only to the paper. His attention was only drawn away as an older female came in with another stack of pancakes. She looked questionably at James before setting the plate down on the table. "Er... how many more of these are we going to need bro?" the girl asked as she started to head back into the kitchen. The male put down the paper for a moment, checking the table as the new set of pancakes that had been there taken by Tyson. His eyes shifted to James who was looking back into the kitchen. "... ... you better eat yours in the kitchen if you plan to eat this morning Monica... and probably another ten at this rate for the rest of us..." the male said scratching his head as he pulled the paper up once more so that only a few brown hairs could be seen over it. Solar continued finishing his share as the Monica headed back into the kitchen to prepare more. His mind wandered for a minute as he looked at the back of the paper for a moment, seeing the headline of the attacked soldiers and decided he might as well ask since Tyson had decided to take interest in his goggles. "So what are we doing today Raymond?" "We're going to be going over some basic survival training considering you two enjoy forgetting it all the time, as well as a continue your elemental studies," the male behind the paper said without much of a glance, though his tone became a bit harsh compared to how he had spoken previously. " We don't forget our training," Tyson began to retort but Raymond quickly turned the paper around and put it down in front of the boys, showing both of their wanted pictures and that the attack on the soldiers was being linked to them, "We... uh..." "This says otherwise," Raymond said glaring at both of them. "Th... that proves nothing," James said his view looking to Tyson for some sort of sign as to what to say. "They blame us all the time for things, it's circumstantial at best," Tyson remarked as he looked back in a side glance to James. "But they don't always raise your bounties for things you haven't done and the paper places you in the area as well as noted by a few witnesses. As much as I care to hear your version of the events," Raymond said cutting off Tyson as he opened his mouth to speak again, "Your points are moot. Today is going to be training day. Monica said she'd help by reviewing with you elemental mastery and afterword I'll be putting your physical skills to the test in a two-on-one match." "That's overkill! W can't beat you!" James stammered as Raymond took a few pancakes that for himself as Monica brought them out. "Would you rather it be Monica that you fight?" Raymond asked amused. James had begun to reply before being shoved off his chair by Tyson. "PASS! We'll fight you," Tyson said, glaring at James to keep his mouth shut. James couldn't understand why but decided it was best not to argue and simply finish his food. The two finished breakfast slowly and made their way into the living room, crashing onto the couch and yawning as Monica pulled out a whiteboard from the closet under the stairs and pushed it in front of the TV set. With a small keyboard out, James clicks a button on the side of his headset and tilted it down as thin teal visor slid out and began to glow. Small characters and some charts appeared, along with a picture of himself before he slid it all out to clear the screen with a quick swipe of his finger in the air. Tyson had taken to keeping a simple notebook that he pulled out of his bag, muttering 'Showoff' as he clicked his pencil to make sure he had lead. "As much as your antics sound like fun Ty, I'm getting tired of being teacher for the two of you as a punishment and not just for your learning experience," Monica said pulling out a book and marker and standing infront of the two teens. "You could always say you taught us and let us be on our way," Tyson said staring blankly at the board as he thumbed through his pad. While a bit of it did have notes on various subjects, a majority of it held Tyson's handy artwork and a few of his normal plans outside of academics. "Nice try, but no. We don't need Ray being any more temperamental than he already usually is. Plus you know if I do that he'll be holding back even less during your fun training later," Monica said as she put up some quick diagrams of the elements as well as placed various stones on the table ahead of them, "Besides, I enjoy teaching the both of you... usually." "Point taken..." James moaned thinking of how badly Raymond had trounced the two of them when they managed to detonate a fireworks stand as a way to cause a diversion and escape. The escape had worked, but a good portion of the crowd had been sent to a local hospital for burns. "Fine... let's just get this over with before I fall asleep here," Tyson said sitting himself up. Monica smiled a bit. "Today I'm deciding we'll just be going over the basics of the elements today as a review since you were kind enough to bring us those elemcryas. Now what can you tell me about the elements you two?" Monica said as Tyson began to flip through his notes. James simply slid his finger across his keyboard again before speaking out. "Elements are well... they're just as they sound. They are the bases for everything around us, composed of any number of the eight binding forces of the world now," James recited as he looked through his visor while reminding himself of what he had typed months back, "There are the four bases: Water, Wind, Fire, and Earth. Earth has a second branch that is acknowledged as it's own elemtn as well, which is called Nature. Then there is the three rare elements: Mind or Spirit depending on what part of the planet and customs you come from, and then Umbra and Lumin." "Each of these elements is given a color which is reflected and drawn by the elemcryas like you see before us," Monica said pointing at each stone in turn on the table. "Fire is red, Wind is Azure, Water is Aqua, Earth is Teal, Nature is Brown, Mind is Amethyst, Umbra is Black, Lumin is White." "Also," Tyson said as he stopped flipping his pages, "Elements are able to be harnessed in a few different ways as well, depending on what element is and the user controlling it. Focusing on the element, certain motions and gestures, or incantations can be used to draw out an element for a desired effect. For example..." "Hmmm?" Monica said as she looked up to where Tyson was now pointing. James had just enough time to look up as did Monica before yet another bucket of water overturned and doused the teacher. Monica stood staring for a moment at the roof as the bucket floated off to the side and dropped to the ground. She looked at both of them as James kept his head down trying not to laugh as Tyson pointed at him before speaking again. "Was him." A short beating after Monica dried herself was all that was needed to get things back on topic as she erased some of the board and put up a few other diagrams which looked like stick figures. "Right then. You are both pretty much right but of course you miss some of the keen details about them. Not everyone can use elements without some type of outside help, thus people like us are known as Elementals. Another thing to note is that most Elementals use only one element, but this is simply because it's much easier to do so," Monica said holding up a auburn looking stone. With a small flick of her other hand, one of the potted plants in the room quickly began to bloom. "Along with that, simply having an elemcryai won't allow you to use the element. Every element has a property behind it that you must understand and to a degree, master before you can even think of using it. In our little family we have Wind, Fire, Lumin, and Umbra. And of course each element may have additional sub-elements within them. That's why we can count on Ray to provide us with some lightning power when the need comes." "Just cause I've always wondered and never bothered to question it, what makes our Elements so rare?" James asked as he brought up another blank page after he finished typing an abridged version into his visor. "Honestly there isn't a real way to explain it. One reason I guess you could say is that people simply don't get a natural affinity to Lumin or Umbra, and Spirit is also fairly rare. Another thing is that even when a user is discovered, they tend not to use it from the just how they're controlled. Lumin draws in raw energy from anything around the user and Umbra is driven by emotions. This in a way makes you much bigger targets and it doesn't help you both stand out like crazy," Monica finished as she put down the stone and sat in a chair ahead of the James. "I told you blue hair was stupid," Tyson said glancing over at James with a smirk. "I don't mock your blonde strands do I?" James retorted annoyed. "No, but that's cause they look awesome," Tyson said pushing the few blonde bits of hair from his eyesight to the side. "Touche'." "Focus boys. As I said, elements that aren't within an affinity can be controlled, but it takes a much greater understanding of the element in question to do so. Since yours are so rare they are actually even harder for anyone to can do that with. Which is a real shame since those elements are considered limitless," Monica said sighing a little before putting the crystals away and starting to clean up. "We'll end it here. Next class time we get to enjoy, we'll talk about how elementals can use elements outside their natural area and the drawbacks to each element." James pulled his visor up as Tyson threw his notebook back in his bag and twirled his finger in the air as he spoke and headed out the door. "Woo... Can hardly wait..." Tyson said in the most sarcastic manner he could without being heard as James chased out after him. The two walked down the lane and up into the woods behind the house, keeping to a dirt path as they headed up into the mountain area. The wildlife of the area kept to itself as the James kept moving up the path behind Tyson, moving silently as he continued to follow. Still after a bit of time he couldn't stand the silence as something had eaten through the barrier of his mind since breakfast. "Hey Ty'?" James called out, his voice kinda low as he looked down where his footing was while moving past the riverbanks. "Hmm?" Tyson replied, slowing down as he turned to wait for his partner. "Why is the world like it is now?" James said looking up. "Because you left your door open while touching yourself when Monica came by," Tyson said with a bit of a laugh. James however simply looked back and spoke again with a much more serious tone. "… I meant that seriously. Why all this crap with Elementals? What exactly did we do to piss the world off so much? And more than that, why the hell is the Commandant so hellbent on us? I wanted to ask Monica earlier but you know how she is with teaching a subject. One thing at a time," James said keep his tone to be serious in hopes that Tyson would follow suit. Tyson's expression seemed to darken as he turned away from James, his teeth grinding at the mention of the Commandant. "I... Can't say much bro... I know just about as much as you do. The kingdoms of Flos were at war for a long time, and a large part of standing armies of each country were elemental users like us. When the Commandant stepped in, he took care of all that and ended the war," Tyson said picking up his pace. "Saying it like that makes them sound like good guys..." James sighed as he kept up the pace to hear Tyson. "Maybe... they were seen as one when they first stood up, and with the Watchers somehow vanishing they were what the world called for... but in the end something changed and we became the targets simply cause of our power. In no way is that fair to us who had nothing to do with what happened in the past," Tyson said in a stonger tone, his fists clenching a bit. "I wonder what changed... And that doesn't explain why the Commandant has us as the most wanted though..." James said curiously as they made it to a clearing, Raymond sitting down waiting for both of them. Tyson shook his head. "… Best to focus on the task at hand... Raymond looks ready to toss us around a bit," Tyson said. Raymond continued to sit for a while longer before he brought his attention to James and Tyson's arrival. He took the bag that was beside him and tossed it over to Tyson as he stood up and began to stretch his body a bit. "I expected you boys to stall longer than this. Must actually be growing up... nah," Raymond said bending his back in an arch. "True. Class finished early and we kinda weren't watching our pace," Tyson replied looking through the bag and looking at the Elemcryai crystals that were within. "Explains much. Well, simple rules as always you two: First team down wins," Raymond said now pulling his arms back, "You've got five miles of area you can roam around in out here if you want to try and drag the fight elsewhere and can take one elemcryas for the fight. Use whatever means you can think of to knock me out before I clock both of you out. Any questions?" James raised his hand. "Yes James?" Raymond said pointing over to him. "Is there a reason to all of this?" James questioned as Tyson slapped his hand over his face before taking out a teal and amethyst crystal, "Not the training, but the resisting. Isn't there something we could do to get along with the Commandant?" Raymond gave a thoughtful look as Tyson tossed his bag back to him. He took out a black stone and tossed the bag to the side before answering. "That would be ideal but there are a few reasons why we can't James," Raymond answered while holding up three fingers, " One: both of you have a serious bounty on your heads for one reason or another..." Both of the teens hung their head at this. "Two: We still have no idea what happens to some elemental users that do join the commandant, plenty of people have given themselves up but not all are ever seen again. A majority end up as part of their military force but not all," Raymond sighed as he gripped the stone strongly in his hand. "And the third?" Tyson said, unsure what could possibly be added to this, though not caring as he began to stretch as well. "The third?" Raymond said slightly amused with the answer he had thought up, " The third is I doubt any of us likes much of what they've been doing enough to want to help them in any way, shape, or form. We resist what they say is right because we say we're right in being able to do as we please. That's why even now we're still in what could be considered a war. If not, I'm sure we'd be enjoying life right now instead." James sighed as he caught the amethyst crystal Tyson tossed over to him. "Right..." "Don't let it keep you down James," Raymond said in a last ditch attempt to try focus the mood a bit, "Someday this will all sort itself out. Hopefully we'll all be alive at that time still to enjoy the peace that will come with it." "Alive and not ancient. Come on J', we've got an old man to show up," Tyson said cheekily, pulling his goggles over his eyes as he got into position. James smiled finally and pulled his gloves back a bit as he got into position as well, keeping his body in a bit of a lower stance. "Heh... I guess I just got to enjoy the moment." Raymond cracked a bit of a smirk as well, his hands crackling a bit with a small form of electricity before speaking once more, "You both know better. Don't take me lightly boys or you're in for a shocking experience. Begin!" The three shot after each other, Tyson managing to get a much better start thanks to his own usual training. The duo came at Raymond from each side, coordinating a simple sliding kick from James with a direct punch from Tyson. Raymond stopped for a moment as he saw himself being flanked directly between the two. "..." Raymond caught Tyson's fist just as it came close enough before jumping to his side over James as he slid in a vain attempt to trip him. The resulting pull and jump slammed the two fighters into each other on the ground as Raymond looked on. "So... bloody cheap..." James said on his back while trying to recover from having Tyson thrown on top of him. Both rolled onto their stomachs as they tried to catch their breath. Already things were going badly to their favor. "Boss status James. You should know that by now after how many times we've trained," Raymond responded, "I know I'm awesome but that's no reason to throw a battle." "You're mental is what you are!" Tyson said as he kept his body low. His hand had been concealed under him as a violet aura began to surround it. Clenching his fist, Tyson rose up and thrust it forward at Raymond. In the wake of the punch, an orb fired out from the fist and met with both Raymond's outstretched hands. Raymond grunted as he was pushed back a bit by the orb but it soon fizzled out, leaving just fumes of smoke on his gloves while they continued to spark. "Not bad... what else you got?" Raymond said checking the front of his gloves. "Just this!" James called out, having managed to rise to his feet while Raymond had been preoccupied and fired his own sphere of light energy. The orb was much quicker than Tyson's had been and coming out of nowhere it managed to hit Raymond's shoulder weakly. Raymond simply frowned as he looked at James who was feeling slightly stupid now. "Not much power behind that was there?" Raymond noted as he turned his attention to James. Tyson had come up from behind him and swung with another punch but he had quickly hit air as a crackle of thunder and Raymond had already made it directly in front of his partner and grabbed his wrist, leaving James panic stricken and unable to move. "A-apparently not!" James uneasily answered trying to think of his next plan now with nothing but how screwed he was coming to mind. "Hang in their J'," Tyson called out as he began closing the distance, his hands both glowing again with the same violet aura as before. Raymond however seemed to have other plans as he twisted James' arm and forced him ahead into Tyson path with his hand set on his back. An azure aura began to glow and swirl around Raymond's hand as he closed his eyes and began to concentrate before speaking once more. "O' gale of the sky, transform my breath and carry my enemies back..." was versed by Raymond as Tyson got closer. His fist pulled back just as Raymond let go of James and called out his attack. "Wind Tunnel!" Like an area had suddenly been created around James, the wind quickly picked up and jetted him immediately away from Raymond like a repulsing magnet. Tyson had no chance to move as James collided with him mid run, the two flying back once more and not stopping till they hit a tree with marvelous force and a terrible crunching noise till the wind died out and both slid to the ground again. "Fucking... ow..." James moaned on the ground as he held his back in pain. " Sp-spell chanting is... also c-cheap," Tyson groaned in agreement with James. The duo was quickly finding their predicament to become more complicated as Raymond simply frowned and waited for them to get up once more. "It's not cheap, but it does give the desired effect given that you have the time to finish the incantation. Even reciting just the name of the spell will generally boost it to a degree," Raymond said in sage tone as he lectured, "but of course this also can give your opponent an idea of what is coming." James and Tyson rose back up to their feet, James staggering slightly as he breathed in to keep himself from continuing to be dazed. Both drew closer to each other as they spoke in a low tone. "Well... this is getting us nowhere fast... any other ideas?" James wheezed out while keeping his head down. Tyson took a moment to think as he looked at Raymond. "Jokes aside about yesterday, I do have my goggles this time. Feel free to try your skills now," Tyson replied as he began to walk up to Raymond. "Heh... just remember to set them to dark mode before I release it and buy me some time," James said, his second wind kicking in as he held his hands out and to his sides. "I think I manage that..." Tyson called out as he rushed Raymond again. Raymond met him half way and began to trade blows instantly as James tried to keep his mind focused. He closed his eyes just as Raymond has only to keep himself from watching the fight as he began an incantation of his own. "Radical flare of the sun and sky, the body is vessel that keeps your power." James hands began to shine and fade in light. Tyson was slowly being pushed back as Raymond saw this, trying to get to James to stop him from his casting but Tyson continued to keep him back just barely. With a quick grab, Tyson's power lifts Raymond and hurls him away by his leg. "Release the arc of light from within and blind the world around me." Two orbs formed at the ends of James' hands, both fusing together as he raises them above his head. Knowing what will come, Tyson quickly breaks off as Raymond charges at the two of them, hitting a small switch on the side of his goggles. "Luminous Flash!"James roars out as his spell is cast. The orb reverberated to James' call, shaking in the air as fine lines began to form around invisible cracks and edges before the sound of glass shattering echoes the release of light throughout the entire woods and field. Everything in the area goes white as it is absorbed into the flash of the orb, Raymond swearing obscenities while trying to cover his eyes. James however seems unfazed by his own light as he stares at it before swiping the orb away and waiting for the light to die down. "Think I over did it?" James asks as he continues to listen to Raymond's swears replicate around them in the trees. "On a scale of one to ten on how bright that flash had to be and how disabled he is?" Tyson questioned as he flipped his goggles back to normal, seeing Raymond swinging madly at air in pain and finding himself laughing at the scene and not noticing the clouds darkening above them. "It's looking to be... up... there..." James began to say as he looked up and noticed the movement of the clouds as the wind in the area began to pick up and flux around them. James' change in tone was enough to make his partner realize something was going on as he too looked into the air. "... uh oh..." The air and wind began to swirl ominously around the area, clouds amassing in dark mounds filled with the jagged shapes of lightning. The crackle of static thunder echoed as Raymond's cursing died out, the fighter's mind recomposed as he held tightly to the dark crystal in his hand with his eyes tightly shut. The crystal began to release black fumes that drifted around Raymond's hands, slowly transforming into pointed barbs of lightning that fazed around his hand. Both James and Tyson could only stand in a sense of morbid fear and uncertainty of what to do. The wind began to pick up violently as Raymond spoke out with his hands clawed out to his sides before speaking once more. "Violent torrent of the never ending space, void of the soul that howls in the wind," Raymond versed as the wind and black lightning began to mix and swirl around his entire body, "Release my fury and inner turbulence so that none may stand before me." Thunder roared around them as James finally found himself backing up slowly in pure terror. Tyson kept his ground, still looking on with a grim expression. "He-He's using both elements!" James cried as his back hit another tree and halted his movement. "This may be overkill..." Tyson called out, his hands finally finding feeling as the both glowed a hue of dark purple, "Brace for impact!" In an almighty roar, the lightning releases from Raymond and travels the ground and air, creating scars into the earth and breaking everything else in its path with a racket of thunder. The pure sound echoes in the air and blocks out anything that would have been said as Raymond calls out his spell, "Negative Shocker." The screams in the forest die with the thunder. The lightning scorches mark the ground leaving trails of flames in their wake; rocks continue to spark as the dust clears from the strike. As Raymond looks at the result, Tyson is still on his feet, the lightning seemingly diverted by the purple aura erected around him. James is less fortunate, shaking terribly on the ground; trying to get up rendered pointless as the teen can't help but crumble under his own weight in his vain attempts to stand up. "Failed to protect your teammate Tyson," Raymond says opening his eyes but shutting them again quickly as he feels himself become blinded once more by just the feeling of James' past attack. "You don't need to tell me that..." Tyson growls out as he takes a worried look over to James before focusing his attention back to Raymond as he lowers his shield. His own body shakes from the attack against the two of them, but with James being so far he knew he would be unable to extend the shield in a way that would allow them both to stay on their feet without straining himself. Regardless, the teen shakes his head before charging off at Raymond, both his fists now being imbued with his power in a daring head on attack. Each swing of his fists that comes is met with nothing but air as Raymond continues to dodge even with his eyes closed. "Your punches are getting sloppy. I might be blind but I can still hear you," Raymond said as he ducked under another punch and brought one up himself into Tyson's chest which missed just barely. "Hear this!" Tyson yelled as he held out his outstretched hand and closed it. As if to mimic his action, a field of violet surrounded and held Raymond in place as the teen rushed in and launched a devastating blow right to the gut before releasing him with a powerful gravitational force. Raymond crumples a bit as he slides across the ground, winded far worse that he expected he would be in the fight. His daze from pain is short lived as he rises to his feet and tries to open his eyes once more. The world seems to be a blur of white but he can just barely make out Tyson ahead of him. "N-not bad... still not enough to take me down just yet... Not on your own anyway," Raymond sneers as he rubs his stomach, certain that he probably just fractured a rib from the punch he took. His eyes' focus was weak though as Tyson smiled back with a reply. "I don't need to take you down alone. You alright now James?" Tyson asks as he partner rises beside him, still shaking to a degree. "I'll let you know later..."James replies, his breathing heavy as he keeps to his feet, "haa... first things first, how about we end this battle?" Raymond frowns as his sight makes out an outline of James finally. With the duo both up, he can't help but question what he sees. "Still up? I was certain you'd stay down after that last hit." "As much as you know I don't like electricity..." James spat irritably as he tried to control his body's shaking, "I've got no time to stay down in a match, I've got a partner to back up." "And now it's time to show you just what this troublesome duo can do," Tyson remarked as he backed up to James' location before putting his hand out and amassing a large void of dark energy into a sphere ahead of both of them. James looked questioningly at the orb as he raised his hand too. "You sure about this one? We haven't tested this out since last time and we all recall what happened then," James asked. Tyson simply nodded as the orb stabilized itself ahead of them while Raymond held his ground, keen on doing nothing till his sight returned now. "No time like the present... our teamwork is stronger than last time, it's time we showed it off," Tyson called out with a smirk. James shakes his head once more as his own hand begins to glow. "Alright bro. You remember the verse?" James said as the orb from Tyson began to fill with his own energies, creating a mixture of violet and golden light. The mixture seemed rebound as the energies collided. "To a degree. You got to say it too. We better do this quick before he really gets his sight back," Tyson replied, his eyes fixed on Raymond as his focus was kept on keeping the energy in front of them stable. Raymond seemed to be muttering something as he clutched the crystal that was still in his hand, the fumes giving form back to the retinas in his eyes as his vision began to return to him. James noticed this two as he put his full focus into putting as much power as he could into their attack before nodding to Tyson to begin the verse. "Mystic elements of light and dark; cage the body and free the soul, drag out those that would use power and turn it against them in divine retribution," the duo called out in unison as they placed their energies into the floating orb. The orb pulsated weakly as it began to acknowledge the verses being said, pressure building around it as dust began to float above the ground. Raymond's sight had cleared up as he looked at the orb in confusion finally seeing it for what it was. His confusion simply turned to concern however as he felt the orb begin to draw him closer to it. The mentor quickly turned his feet and dug them into the ground, determined not to be so easily moved as he looked at his two charges. "What the hell are you two doing?!" Raymond shouted as the wind started to pick up, more dust and small leaves began to be dragged about the beating sphere of opposite powers. James smiled as he gave him an answer as he continued to wheeze heavily. "Ending this… with our win…" was all James would say before the two finished their verse. "Retract, explode, and expel your shine. Dual Cast: Gravity Light Bomb!" both cried out as the light within nearly vanished save for the tiniest spot. The light then returns viciously, causing the violet casing to expand greatly to keep it contained. Tyson grunts as he keeps the orb in check but James finds his body gives out as he suddenly crashes to the ground. "Freaki- Ja- Not now!" Tyson shouts as the orb pulsates quicker in response to James' sudden departure from the fight, drawing in much larger bits of branches and rocks from the area before turning to crushed bits of dust as they enter into the range of the energy. Tyson directs what little focus he has left to keep himself and James from moving as he notices his partner being dragged slowly on the ground toward it. "What the hell is this thing?!" Raymond snarls as he sees what is unfolding, still keeping himself from being dragged in with much greater difficulty and a look of concerned anger. Tyson could see this too and did his best to avert his gaze as he answered. "Oh you know… just one of those things that raised our bounty a bit…" Tyson mumbled unhappily. "I would never have guessed," Raymond said sarcastically, "What does it do genius!?" "Violent explosion when it goes off," Tyson replied almost inaudibly while shifting his gaze. A dead tree was now sliding into the clearing before it too smashed itself under a tremendous gravitational pressure. Raymond looked simply dumbstruck. "Gods dammit Tyson, HOW VIOLENT?!" Raymond bellowed. "Well…" Tyson begun, "You remember that fireworks thing we got in trouble for? That wasn't fireworks; that was this thing going off." "Troublesome duo does it again…" Raymond said irritably as he held attempted to quickly think of something to do. Tyson's own power was giving out as the orb was becoming engulfed by the light within it. The mentor looks at the crystal in his hand and mutters a small verse before hurling the rock dead center into the field just as Tyson passes out as well. The sphere takes in the crystal, the gravity energy unable to work on it as it holds up the same field it does while entering within it. The crystal hovers for a moment in the center, before siphoning the Umbra elements inner layers and shattering. The light of Lumin energy that was being held pulses once more before releasing through the weak cracks in the orb, releasing a massive force of light straight into the sky as well as stray rays in random directions. The orb's center of gravity dissipates from the area, but not before the Lumin energy manages to hit all three fighters, completely knocking out Tyson and Solar. Raymond manages to keep to his feet though he looks terribly worn as he pants while standing over both of his two students. "T-that... concludes... class... today... ugh, you kids are gonna be the death of me." Edited by Solar Zero, Oct 19 2012, 04:05 AM.
