Credits to JG for writing this. Just want to get this somewhere where people can see it. Welcome to the World of EXE The year was 200X. A new age of technology reigned, based on the research done by Dr. Tadashi Hikari. Civilization had been brought online. Devices known as Personal Terminals (or PETs) were developed to allow Operators to access the Net, searching through information and communication with others. As the Net grew, however, the AI subroutines which were needed to interface with the vast amounts of information available advanced to the point where they became personable, and Net Navigators (or Navis) were born. More and more Navis were created, and the Net was further developed, until there was an entire Cyber World coexisting with the Real World, populated by manifestations of AI just as our world is populated with humans. Of course, like our world, the Net was not without danger. Malicious programs, called Viruses, were developed and set loose on the Net, designed to attack and destroy NetNavis and programs alike. In order to combat the threat and defend themselves, Navis were given weapons of their own, and Battlechips were created, allowing even the lowliest Navi to utilize powerful combat programs. Over time, as these battle programs became more and more common, people began to pit Navis against each other for fun, and a new sport called "NetBattling" was invented. Viruses were not the only threat, however. Malicious individuals worked alongside their Navis to create disorder in the Cyber World, and to exploit the newly interconnected world for the own benefit. New branches of law enforcement, such as the Electopian Official Net Battlers (ONB) had to be created in order to combat Cyber-Crime and make the Net safer for everyone. Over the years, other major threats have risen up and been beaten back. Netterrorist groups, such as the World 3 headed by Dr. Wily, have attempted to destroy the Net and send the world into chaos; criminal syndicates like Nebula have tried to bend it to their will; ancient programs like Gregar and Falzar have threatened its inhabitants with destruction. The year is now 20XX, and the Net is entering a new age. The old heroes have mostly moved on, and the future of society--both Real and Cyber--is up in the air. Will the world continue on as it has, with the powerful and unscrupulous seeking to use technology to exploit others? Or will the Net enter a new era of peace and prosperity? |
