His father a working man, his mother just as well, despite her more leisured role as a writer. When compared to his father's construction occupation. He built houses for a living. Ironicly enough the man would meet his end in a house fire. It was believed that he had fallen asleep after coming home late one night, while his wife and children were off with in-laws. Evidence had pointed to a number of appliances being left on over the course of the night, alchohol was involved. Obviously Val was angry with the results of an accidental death. They made it seem as if his father were some dull minded bugger and a drunk, just the way they described it. As a result Val's middle school years weren't the best, almost being held back from high school. Luckily a last ditch effort of all nighters and a lot of tea helped him burn through his exams with scores just high enough to see to his admitance. But High School wasn't exactly a glorious time either. Being the youngest of three saw Val being the brunt end of his older siblings misfortune. While he wasn't abused, he was quite frequently mistreated, used as a scapegoat. Despite what anyone else would've felt in his possition, Val felt he was the 'man' of the house. His brother not really being dependable kept jumping from job to job as he kept being "let go" His sister was in school to become a nurse. Val himself took courses at the East London University durring the summer, but a new calling would pull him awa once he finished highschool. The Recruiters got inside his head, made him want to serve more than anything. And at the time it seemed tike the answer to his families problems. It offered security, a career, a chance to be something...someone more. He jumped at the chance, somewhat tricking his family into seeing it his way. Phase one of the training came easy. Val was always physically fit due to sports and his own daily regiments of course things were done on a whole new level. He felt he would be weeded out at any moment. He had found his limits and struggled to push past them. It was his spirit, his will that saw to him excelling early on. Passing Phase one and joining the ranks, his fate was locked in and he would have it no other way. Phase two was combat training. That was the fun part, he learned the basics of how to defend himself. How to properly hold a rifle, to use his kit to its fullest despite the majority of situations. It saw him blossom into a promising trooper. Howevever his service didn't kick right off. It moved into secondary courses. It was there that Val earned his wings so to speak. Becoming a Para and there he served out the majority of his career, spending three years in service to the Para's 2nd Battalion as a regular. Amazingly enough he saw himself progressing quite well. Damn near becoming an expert of urban warfare for the first two weeks he was in the middle east. He cleared buildings like a pro, and breached doors like the devil coming to collect a debt. He would participate in five combat jumps in the middle east, serving at the forefront with other nations of the UN climbing through Lance Corporal and finally Corporal. His promotion to Sergeant was anything but easy. His Squad Leader was downed early on by a sniper. Not dead, but downed. Leaving the two Corporals and a Lance Corporal to rally and pull the group together. While Val had superriority in the squad he wasn't exactly looking forward to being a psuedo leader. But with the situation pulling into confusion, the sniper having done his job perfectly Val snaps to, ordering a perimiter, slowly moving down line as the Sergeant was stabilized and moved to better cover inside of a clay house. Val had the squad move away from the windows,, instead moving deeper into the house, setting claymores near the doors, windows. The Squad setting up near the rear exit where a couple of APC's apart of a convoy were expected to drop ramp and allow them entry... what a gruling two hours. Inssurgents had the area locked down fairly tight. Using roadblocks and rooftop ambus possitions. All of witch were qualmed by air. But between that time the Squad was slowly burning through its ammo and medical supplies. Once the convoy arrived Val had the Sergeant taken first, moving his squad in one, two, three at a time before he himself got on last, almost getting shot in the process, but his cavlar saved him that day, avoiding what could've been a nasty shot to the lower Torso. The round glanced off at an angle, getting stuck in the folds instead. Following his rotation back to London, with a third strike on his shoulder Val took the advice of his Company Commander who he had formed a friendship with overseas and applied to OCS. Having to go through a check and process. He was accepted despite his own misgivings, and foundhimself enrolled in Sandhurst. Over the course of several months and eager to get back on the field Val learned he was scouted for selection some time pre OCS. And with the date coming he jumped on that oppertunity as well. Not only new doorways for him, but more binifits for his loved ones. Why wouldn't he agree to try it. The endurence...it was unlike anything he ever imagines. Crosscrountry in twenty hours, madness. But he pulled it off in just under eighteen hours, heaving, burning lungs and chest ready do rip open at any moment. He survived the initial weave, gaining him entry into the physical fitness tests. Being a Para he found the actual para training a godsend, the only easy part of the course. But given his time away for OCS he felt it a good refreasher. Surprisingly, and with the mass amounts of satisfaction Val graduated. Earning his dagger and taking his one year probation before going into active duty as an operative. His was tasked to a squadron with in the 22nd following that year, getting resituated with life on the otherside Val found himself operating accross europe, asia, and asia minor respectively. Personality: While serious up front Val is the type that can be swayed into a joyful and joking mood when the time warrants. He's got.a slight bit of dark humor but it isn't over the top. He belives in being a professional in every aspect of his life, but that doesn't always work well with relationships. Women tend to want something a little less rigid and orderly. He's slowly learning to seperate the two aspects of life though it isn't easy for him. The military has been the only real constant thing in his life. And he was always quite focused. Qualifications and Skills: Para-trooper HOHO-HOLO HAZOP operations Underwater insertion CQB Specialist Assault Specialist Marksmen Demolitions/Explosives SOF Qualification Officer Profeciancy |
