Background

Born in new york city, and growing up in the Bronx would make anyone tough. Joining the Marines would make that person a hell furry to deal with. Just so happens that is exactly what Derek was at age five. He didn't truly understand what had happened, but as the days passed he understood that his father wasn't coming back. In 2011 SSgt. Patrick Snow was killed in the line of duty over seas. A Recon Man by trade, a marine by merit, Derek had built an image of his father, through the people who served with him, family, friends. They helped him understand what kind of man his father was. And what kind of man Derek wanted to become.

Growing up wasn't easy. Derek had a short fuse, it only got worse when he turned thirteen, hormones jumping off the walls and just someone looking at him the wrong way sent his blood boiling. A couple of suspencions and switching schools lead to a retired 1st Sergeant, one of his father's close friends recomending to his mother that Derek be placed into an ROTC. Once could say the JROTC was exactly what the doctor ordered. But it didn't start out that way. His level of discipline was quite low, and the boy had an attitude. But within a week that was gone all together. He had easily toned down and become more respectful toward his teachers and peers. That didn't mean his grades were any better. Through high school Derek suffered as a C average studeny. Just barely scrapping together to keep from getting D's. His only saving grace being the A he got in football.

As expected Derek ended up doing what his father before him had done. Made the decision to join the service and go to school following his term. He expected his mother to be completely against it, however she actually seemed to encourage him stating that he reminded her so much of Patrick. Funny part was that his sister Diana was the one who flipped out and begged himto rethink his choices for the future. His mind was set though and with his mother signing him off he joined at seventeen straight out of highSchool and just before the next School year started.

Hell boot was exactly what he was expecting, only it wasn't that sterotype pissy drill Sergeant portraid from the 70's. These guys seemed to be more down to earth, that didn't stop them from putting a big black boot to your ass when you needed it. While he was described as a talented "future" marine. His current status was a little lackluster. He was more average at first, quite green. But that was only because his nerves got the better of him. Where a lot was expected of him, he choked. Only being able to prove what he had once his first tour overseas began. Assigned to the 1st Marine, the then Private First Class Snow was assigned to a Company, and squad. Of course he didn't hit it off right away.

Being the new Private, along with several others lead to him getting the messy end of the stick a lot of times. But once the hazing got out of the way he found himself being absorbed by the surrogate family whome he lived with for damn near nine months of combat patrols and armored security for relief and the occasional raids. Of course its almost impossible but Derek didn't experience to much death. At least, no friendlies. The few guys that did kick the bucket, he didn't know. Not to say he didn't feel for the guys and their family. Just that it wasn't close enough to really impact him. As time went on Derek slowly showed himself to be a fairly good marksmen with the CM901 he was assigned and trained on while with the unit.

He was quite efficiant with the modular platform as well, being able to convert the weapon from Carbine to a DMR in a little under a minute if the moments just right. Not to say he could do it that quick ever time. But practice made perfect. His service continued forming bonds with his squadmates, the rest of the platoon. He was one of the lucky SOB's that made it home for christmas usually. Receiving his promotion to Lance Corporal due to his conduct and ability to operate near flawless under combat conditions.

His next tour was a little shakey. Having to deal with a firefight stuck in an intersection with a Striker serving as cover. He lost a close friend that day. An IED on a highway triggered the assault. Several rocket impacts later and the APC was somewhat dead in the water. The Marines secured that area and moved toward the adjacent building for better cover. Having to clear it up to the roof and take up possitions within the two story. The squad was a little out of sorts. The other vehicle...well the driver and passenger weren't so lucky. Once the shooting started the vehicle tried to speed through, a rocket broadsiding the vehicle and a sense of panic forced the driver to lose control of the vehicle and it slammed into a wall after nailing a few stands. Dazed and a little confused the occupants stumbled about, trying to get out of the vehicle unaway of the insurgents gathering.

Meanwhile derek along with the rest of the squad were pinned in their building, trying to provide cover, suppress and move to them. It was a slow annoying pace in which they were able to do so. Who knew traveling one block would take so damn long. Ten minutes in a firefight was like a whole damn day. By the time they gathered around the wounded Marines and secured them. One had gone into shock from several gunshot wounds. Two to the lower torso, one to the shoulder and another to the thigh, luckily missing the vital. Or maybe not so lucky. Happened to be their corpsmen who got hit and he was bleeding out surely enough.

The arival of Apache support escorting a convoy in eventually evaced the wounded. A sniper forced the Marines to take cover, part of the convoy splitting off to get the wounded out. While they secured the area. Damn near two hours and the Marines hadn't found that sniper. Civilians were becoming a tad thicker the further they went. And every new body meant more possible hostiles. The slightly jumpy Marines hussled back to an RV point where they were returned to their OP

The following year Derek decided to broaden his horizons a bit. By this point he had no intention of leaving the Corps. and with his chips all in he pushed for the MARSOC selection process. He thought war was hell. No way, it was the selection and training in between that he figired would claim his life. Training with airborn, and diving units was...different for the Marine. God knew if he wanted to fly he would've signed on to be a pilot. But there was a massive thrill factor to damn near sky diving so he didn't complain, so long as his gear worked he was happy. No one wanted to be a splatter cack on the ground.

After the eight month long course and holding the rank of Corporal Derek began his workings as a SOCOM operator. Still using the CM901 over the other Colt models he operated in Europe, more occasionally France since it was just a skip away from the air base. The Middle East. That would always be a hot spot, and of course Afrika. Also a hot spot. Eventually word came down for the billet in SGC. Figuring he would give it a shot but not expecting to get accepted given his recent spat as a MARSOC operative. He jumped at the chance pushing through selection, figuring it would be good for his records to show he at least attempted and gave it his all. However to his dumbstruck surprise he actually made it and was selected for the training program. Stating only one phrase once he found out. "Well I'll be damned."

Personality:

A caring individual, easy going and extreamly devout to the Marine creed. Derek is a really down to earth guy, enjoying friendships and usually being eager for a laugh. He's known to like to take a somewhat brother-like approach his more personal friendships, and he's always welcoming to the idea of a partner to kick it with. Of course he's a soldier by trade, he can kick it into high gear when warranted. But his good natured attitude is a trait shared with his father.
