Well, yeah, that was Joe kicking some dirt in hide's eye, like he had been doing for months after hide had been doing it to him for months. That was the point of the promo. Admittedly I wasn't told beforehand what happened in the match, so I was playing it fast and loose. Though one could still interpret it as hide needing to be carried and not having the fire he once had, which was the core of Joe's promo on that show. I actually completely agree with you though. And, it did give me pause at times as it did feel like Joe Stanton was, to paraphrase a trope, the only sane man in NGIW's canon. But I didn't really have a say in the matter and assumed there had been some conversation between Wighty & you about it. Not to open this can of worms but I do feel there is a disconnect in how you, Dai, based on what you've said to me view hide and how management, Wighty, Boy and even to an extent, Lita, view hide. And, I feel like it's been there a while. Definitely since I joined the board. |

The same could be said for Joe Stanton in that regard too. Especially the part where he's supposedly the only sane man in NGIW. It seems at most times that the things Joe thinks about other characters, himself, or even NGIW as a whole is not the general consensus amongst the rest of the NGIW world. It doesn't so much make him the only sane man in NGIW as it makes him the craziest one of all. Reality conforms to the general consensus, no matter what facts a lone man feels he has to support his ideas. |

But neither is more valid than the other, really. If others feel a certain way or view hide a certain way, is it any more valid than how Dai views hide? I mean, Dai is hide's creator afterall. Not saying it's less valid either. But if Dai doesn't like the way hide's been handled, he should get some say in the matter, rather than simply going by the majority's opinion. On the topic of Joe, he isn't a lone man. Ironically hide, and by extension Dai, agree with most of his assessments as far as him being the "Heart of NGIW" are concerned. :P Though my point was more he shouldn't have been and, yet, at times he was. |

People aren't always viewed the way they want to be. Just because management felt hide embodied what NGIW is all about doesn't mean hide had to agree with it. Does Joe have the reputation that he wants from management and the fans? Hardly. It's not really much different. hide doesn't want to be the Heart of NGIW but that lack of caring what other people want or expect from him is really what captures the essence of what NGIW is about. It's a place where no matter how crazy you are, it doesn't matter at the end of the day. It's the reason characters like hide thrive much quicker and logically than the Joe Stanton's or even the Adam Wilson's and Brian Mauler's. Are they good characters? Yes. But regardless of what they say or do, they care about what other people think of them. I'm not sure if you or Adam really aim for that but the way they so passionately argue anything said about them is a yearning for people to understand their point of view and accept them for it. Does hide care if anyone understands his ramblings? No. Did Chester give a single fuck that everything he said contradicted him? Nope. But Joe will argue to his last breath why he's right even if it's been made clear that nobody sees it his way. I'm not saying that Joe or Wilson/Mauler are bad characters. They both have some great points to them, but I'm just saying what it is that separates them from a character like hide or Chester. In an FIW-style environment, Joe probably would've been champion much quicker than his journey here in NGIW has been. On the flipside, hide probably would've had a much tougher time being accepted. He could've got there but it would've more than likely been akin to the length of the journey Joe has had here in NGIW. This all, of course, is ignoring handler reputation and basing it solely on the types of characters they are and the types of environments NGIW and FIW lean to respectively. |

Lita's post was a better storyline than what we cooked up for hide and Joe. Can I strike it from NGIW lore and replace it with that? |
