Heya,

Got the neutron home and all fitted out. Then today, took it out in very small surf.

Its a really fantastic boat but i was dissapointed with the back support.

Anybody have any ideas on a better backrest? :scratchhead:

Andy,

If you email me I can send you a photo guide to making a solid foam backrest, I use it in all my boats and have made several for other people.

Chris

PS: I emailed this to you as well.

Andy,

Like Chris says, solid foam is the way to go. Coast and Creak sell it at a reasonable price and I've seen photos of how Chris does his - it's a good job.

hi andy,

ive seen some guys in the past useing a camping rollmat.

They roll it up and fis it in place behind the seat with elastic.
However, ive only ever seen this done in sea kayaks.

Hope this helps

Dan :D

hey

If there is a centre pillar behind the seat you could also use a rollmat just to push your back forward a little.

That's ok as a temporary solution, I've used it myself when there's been no backrest at all, but a properly shaped foam backrest with a slot cut in it so it fits around the rear centre pillar is just so much better.

Seakayaking is a whole different sport with different demands from the outfitting. When surfing you want to be able to apply force through the seat in several differnet ways; this is rarely the case in a seakayak.

If you want to be able to surf really well, and I know you do :D then it's worth spending the time to get your outfitting right.

i took the backrest out of my trident altogether and replaced it with foam - takes a bit of work to get it right but makes all the difference

make sure you are tight enough to stay in contact with your boat but not so much so that your legs go numb when you stop paddling

Finally got the backrest sorted out.

I used an insulating foam call xtratherm. it isn't ideal as it is quite crumbly but it is all i could get my hands on.

Thanks for the help guys.

Andy

(p.s. how do you upload images onto the forum? i tryed but it didn't work :( )
