The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass When I first heard that Phantom Hourglass was coming out for the DS I was angry because Twilight Princess wasn’t out yet and already the Zelda team was working on a new game. The second PH announcement was at a better time, yet they announced the entire game would be played via Stylus control. Being an old school gamer I did not like this one bit. Needless to say I was biased when I got the game. However, all that changed quickly. I really did not know what to expect but I assumed it would be subpar. I loved how the game was fully 3-D but the camera angle was killing it. The beggining of a game is usually slow and PH is no exeption. So my bias caused me to accuse the game of sucking. The stylus control wasn’t easy either, took me a while to get used to it. Not to mention all the Islands looked similar. I was pissed. Of course as I played the game I realized something, Instead of wanting PH to be similar to all Zelda games I should embrace the differences. Once I started doing so the game was awesome. There is a lot of comedy in this game, something you can’t get from traditional Zelda games. Plus the addition of Linebeck, Captain of the S.S. Linebeck, just gave the game lots of physical comedy. But Phantom Hourglass isn’t just chuckles and giggles. The game truly is great. Granted the Dungeons aren’t that hard, but they are no walk in the park either. Dungeons are pretty straight forward. Plus since the game is for DS, the dungeons puzzles are solved mainly via touch screen. What really makes the game worthwhile are the cutscenes. Zelda games are often great due to their magnificient storylines. Phantom Hourglass’s plot managed to go above and beyond. The games cutscenes were fully 3-D which made it come more alive. The characters had a lot of, (how should I say this?) "Character". Redundant yes, but it’s true. They managed to really show you what they were all about. The game’s finale was perhaps the most epic in any Zelda game. I loved it. I do not wish to spoil it but I will say it should be witnessed by all Zelda fans. On a final note I would like to say; though this game was great it did leave a few questions unanswered. So I hope Nintendo considers making a third installment in this saga. If they do, Linebeck better be in it, or any other future Zelda game. Scores: Gameplay: 7/10 Controls: 7/10 Graphics: 9.8/10 Music Score: 10/10 Plot: 10/10 Overall: 10/10 Average: 8.96/10 |

i think that phantom hourglass was probably better than twilight princess on the wii for as phantom hourglass didn't get repetitive, didn't have dull graphics and it also was a lot more funner to play |

Comment: Your remark about the characters giving the game "Character" might be swapped for "Personality" instead. It defines the same purpose without using the same word, avoiding redundancy. Consider it, if you decide to edit your post. |
