Yeah, another one with all the goodies RC4WD R2 digger, GWS outrunner, Mamba Max, Bull chassis from Double J, Losi Claws, Unimoger beadlocks, TLT front (with aluminum knucks and C's) and Hi-Lift rear axle (it's what I had laying around) and to top it off, a one-off carbon-fiber Baja Bug body:![]() I've since added some decals to give it a little color, but the CF is just damn sexy. Gonna bring it out on the 13th and give it a good thrashin' |

hey stu how much to make me a hood out of the fiber. I would even be happy with fiber glass I am gonna paint it anyway. I just want to hinge it and attaching hinges to lexan will suck. |

We talkin' 1:1 or scale? I've got enough scrap that you can make a hood, easy. All you need is a couple ounces of epoxy and a mold. What body are you using? |

ha ha, I knew you'd like that one, Nat. CF isn't that much different from 'glass, but the fabric is stiffer, so you need to lay it up carefully to avoid air gaps. If you have a vacuum bag, that'll help a lot on a complex mold like this. You should be able to do the hood and sides without it, though. |

i went to school for composite repair on Fa-18s when i was in the navy, but it was all for repairing honeycomb and flat laminate/carbon fiber panels, Radar transparant/ reflective panels, radomes and structural surfaces. but they never went into scratch built volkswagens, i think it had to do with the geneva conventions or somethin... |

I'm pretty sure something this evil is banned in all civilized societies. Fortunately we live in Ohio. Are you coming to the GTG on Saturday, or you headed off to Bangkok? I'll bring some fabric for ya. I destroyed the body today trying to make another one. Between the vacuum pump and the heat gun, it's had it. |

Nah i wont be there, wish i could, still in thailand, tomorrow we are heading to pattaya, its a tropical little resort town, you can get a 5star hotel for 30-50 bucks a night, its alot of fun, they have these pay gocart tracks, but not like the ones in the states, for like 20 bucks, you can ride 125cc shifter cartsfor like an hour, they do like 90 mph, in my navy days whe we were there we rode em for like 2 days straight! and theres also a redlight district for the guys too, if you like catchig diseases... Annyway when i get back i would like to get with ya and sit in on one of your Carbon Fiber arts and crafts hour. what about making a mold of the body first out of plaster or something? are you laying the CF inside or out? |

CF goes inside, to get a smoother finish. The inside of this thing is wrinkly as, well, use your imagination THe vacuum bag doesn't always lay down nice and flat.A plaster mold would work, but it'd have to be fiberglassed and gelcoated. I'll skip the red-light district, thanks. I wouldn't want to catch a Jeep thing. But the shifter karts sound like they're worth the trip! |

yeah from watching it almost looked like somehow your rear links where forsing the rear center of the rig down on most climbs I dont know if it was springs or what. other then the clearance issue it looked good out there. roxan you dont have to put on the red light . I live in the red light distrect of akron. actually its more of crack pipe district but same thing. I want to go to stu''s house for show and tell on the carbon fiber secret traing day to when is it? I can do fiberglass and gelcoat work but have never tryed forming stuff in molds. i just fixed holes in rvs and boats. |

We might be stepping up to an aluminum mold for the stuff at work. A 2-piece mold will take care of all the imprefections and force the cloth and resin down into the mold for a perfect finish, theoretically. But it's gonna cost a few thousand bucks to make the mold. if I had a 2-piece mold for the Bug, we could skip the vacuum bagging. Anyone got thirty grand they wanna loan me? You'll get a free body! |

honestly i think if you shorten your upper links on the rear you would have had a lot better grip out there... the way that rear kept trying to drive under your rig was killing you |

Yeah, it's getting a TLT axle back there once I dig up some pieces parts. Honestly, I threw the thing together quick so Double J would have something to look at and never got around to doing it right. It's got a new motor, too That little GWS was killing me with unintentional reverses. I make enough of them on purpose, don't need to add more.
