Digging out an old project

Due to a tight budget I am having to put most of my R/C projects on hold. I did happen to find a box of parts that I started on and never finished. I think I have dug up enough part to finish it (maybe). Well the project will (I hope) result in a Super Class Crawler.

Here is what I have to work with.

Axles: CEN MT2 front and rear with the a-arms locked solid (like an E-Maxx Crawler)
Tranny: All I have is an old worn-out Pede tranny, but it will have to do.
Tires & Wheels: I really only have on choice here, WheelyKing rims and tires (it's all I have for now).
I have some 3/8 & 1/4 delrin rod to make the links.
I have some el cheapo servos.
I haven't found any drive shafts yet, but I have some around here somewhere.
I can rob an ESC out of another car.
I have a new 65 turn motor.
Don't have a body, but I can find something.
I have some really crappy T-maxx shock too.
I think that's about it.

So now the build begins:

Here is the plans. Locked (solid) front and rear CEN axles. The rear axle has a disc brake on it so I will try a dig with brake set-up on the 3rd channel. I will have 4 wheel steer, but it will be all on one channel. I will post up some pics. soon. I have the axles mounted up on my jig board. I think I will go with a 14" w.b.

Low budget is right. Right now the budget for my R/C projects is $0.00. I will most likely not be making to and GTGs or Comps for a while either.

I don't have a bug body, that would be sweet. I like to stand out. :poke:

I just hope it doesn't get to the point that I have to start selling off my R/Cs. For now I am just going zero budget.

I think these CEN diffs should be great, I had a .21 8 port engine in the MT2 before I stripped it down to start this project. The diff gears still look new. I really like CEN products, I have had a few and have loved them, but parts can be hard to find sometimes.

I have been eye balling the new CEN Truggy, maybe next summer.

Well this will be the last post on this project for a while I think. Just don't have the funds to work on anything right now. So I just desided to take some time off.

I will do some more detailed machine work, then cover it with a few aluminum panels. If I get it done and I don't like it I am only out the time. The materials are free.

It is a special grade of delrin that we us here at work for crane parts. This stuff is super strong, and stiff, but only comes in the puke green color.

I kinda based the looks on that G-Made crawler chassis. I will have to see if I can find the one on scale4X4. I am still not sure about the chassis.

I will make the tranny tonight, should be pretty small and compact. I have a 65T motor for it. I should have the rear brake and front dig sorted out soon too.

I think I will make some body panels in some nasty colors to go along with the baby crap green chassis.

Just about done with the trans. I started making a gear trans. but then I remembered that I had 4 or 5 of these planetary boxes. Don't know what the reduction is but I am guessing 300:1 or so. May be too slow. This is a 3 stack box, I have a 2 stack if this is too much. All I have to do is shorten the thru shaft and mount the yokes on it.

Yes those are Nylint boxes.

I could still use that other tranny too. I am going to rebuild the 1/6 scaler over the winter.
