YAAAAAAAAAY!!! I saw the little conversation! Awesoooome! X33333 I'd say don't ask her about her sexuality; culture-wise, that's a sensitive subject. Plus, don't be deceived by all the anime/manga. In real life, it's still not entirely well accepted over there just yet. The Japanese draw a hard line between entertainment and real life. They'll have extreme entertainment for the purpose of satisfying anything they want (action, hentai, yaoi, whatever), but they separate it from reality. That's why their kids' programming often has what we'd consider mature material and the kids still turn out ok; they're taught from the get-go that entertainment and life are two different things. Celebrities will provide people with entertainment to make them happy, and aren't afraid to act homosexual to provide that. Example: how lotsa Visual Kei bands dress in drag, and men in the audience aren't embarrassed to find that sexy (they're not gay, they're just appreciating the feminine beauty like art), or J-pop/J-rock bands where on stage the band members start to fake-out make-out with each other to the delight of female fans, when they're all straight as an arrow or even married. They just separate their stage life from their real lives, and their fans know that so they're seldom accused of being fruity. The standard of beauty for men in Japan is perceived as feminine and gentle for the most part (though of course there are various moe for bad-boys and whatnot). It's the big bears that are accused of being gay usually. Totally opposite of the Boys Love/yaoi manga that usually portray "ideal" (feminine) males together, because it's merely for entertainment/attraction value rather than realism. Cuz (just speaking the general cultural viewpoint here, NOT mine), if a guy likes a guy, then he wants him super manly. Cuz a REAL (hetero) man looks like a girl! Or something like that... Hard to explain. :P There's plenty of exceptions, and I haven't actually been there myself, but I've read from various sources and seen examples portrayed before (like the entertainment performer Hard Gay. He's HILARIOUS and darn brave, though at the same time he's using stereotype for comedy). For girls, being lesbians is considered being childish. Little girls in grade- or middle-school often form super-close bonds where they have cute little crushes on each other, sometimes pinkie-promising to stay together or even kissing. But it's expected that they'll usually grow out of it by high school, and certainly by college. Most times, that is indeed the case; they just bond like this to express their more sensitive sides, and because they can relate to each other more easily than yucky boys. But then they eventually notice that boys are handsome and gravitate toward them. So, for a girl to admit to being a lesbian, she might be ridiculed as still in the mentality of a child. So ummmm................ (And one more bit... Most girls who are addicted to yaoi are referred to as "fujoushi" which basically means "rotten woman". :o ) |

@Za: Visual performers, yes, I am aware of that. However, I doubt the same goes for mangaka. Mangaka are rarely ever seen, so they're a lot like novel writers that way. Therefore, it's safe to assume that the way they act anywhere is themself and not an act. At least, that's how I've always seen it. But yeah, I probably won't directly ask her....if I knew how to properly phrase it, I may ask her what her opinion on it is and how she sees it and tell her that Americans see it differently from the Japanese... @Squid: It is super cool~. |

@Za- O-oh gee @_____@ @Kirvee: I dunno, I personally wouldn't ask her, either? (but then I never really ask about those kinda things; I just kinda observe 'til it becomes apparent/the person in question says something first fff) Ehh, maybe if you get a good rapport with her? I don't know much 'bout how Twitter works, but your comments and her responses are all public, too, yaa? Do you think that may affect her answer? :x Hahah yeah maybe work around that topic somehow but ajdfiosjdifo /stillpleasantlysurprised |

@Kuma: I saw that! I tried reading it but she conjugates stuff in a manner I'm not familiar with...please share? @Everyone: Response! I'm not entirely sure what she's saying for the first sentence (Dictionary.com isn't transalating it right...), but it looks like she's saying basically that she can't read English, but she can write it....*wonders how that works* I can't tell if her second sentence is asking me to continue studying Japanese or if she's wishing me luck in my Japanese studies... And I've responded acknowledging the first response, saying the usual thanks, and then I told her I love NnO, especially Yoite and Miharu and that they make a cute couple. Seriously, I did, XD. *wonders what she'll say to that* |

Seconding everything Za said. Japan is... a really fascinating culture, but not one I would actually want to live in because of things like that. @ Kirvee: She said she can read English but isn't able to write well, sorry, and good luck/do your best studying Japanese. : ) |

@Za: I know exactly what you mean about media culture being totally separate from their actual lives. @Kuma: TELLLLLL x3 @Kirvee: I'd love to hear her answer to YoiHaru xDDD @La: Seconded. I understand the appeal, but to actually live there is an entirely different story. |

@Radio: Ah, thanks! I wasn't sure where the "can't"s were coming from since neither of the verbs she used were negative, but such is my limited ability. @Chi: You and me both =3. @Ein: I hope she is delighted, XD. |
