APPEARANCE

     height || 6'1"
     weight || 180lbs
     hair || Dark brown, it is slightly curly and kept short for the sake of convenience. It rises a few inches from his scalp and is usually styled.
     eyes || Dark brown, nearly black; when he's teaching or working, he normally wears glasses due to his slowly worsening sight.
     body || Broad-shouldered, Zarius is slim but not lanky. Well toned, he's strong without emitting a sense of strength (which makes it much more impressive when he lifts up, say, a car). He has darker coloring, which bodes well with his dark hair and eyes. Unlike many dragons, Zarius carries no signifying markers aside from his teeth; not incredibly different from human teeth, they do run sharper then most. His nails are also significantly stronger then most, and he usually has them manicured to be quite sharp.

     clothing || Surprisingly, Zarius prefers does not really wear the color gold--after all, it's gaudy, and he's trying to blend in. He'll wear almost every color, but favors black, greys, and the occasional loud color for accent; he isn't a stranger to bold patterns, either. He enjoys button-ups, slacks, and blazers, and despite running warmer then most, he does like coats and scarves in the winter time. After playing the "being human" game for so long, he's quite used to wearing things that aren't exactly comfortable.

     dragon || It would be hard to connect the human Zarius to his dragon form. Nearly 30, or around three stories, in height, his scales are a brilliant gold that demand attention. His scales, in fact, are very, very valuable, and dragons such as him were once hunted for them. A traditional European dragon, his body is long, with a tail, and his wings expand to about five times his size. Although a peaceful dragon, he still comes off as menacing; horns extend back in a curve from his head, and smaller horns protrude from his face and cheek area. While in a dragon form, he can take flight and breathe fire (to an extent); his strength also increase immensely. However, the likelihood of finding him in such a form would be very rare indeed.

THE PAST

     Long ago, when dragons dwelled about the earth in abundance, Zarius was born and began his own life. Like most gold dragons, he was raised only shortly by his "parents" before being left to his own devices. Unlike most dragons, however, golden dragons are not violent or malicious creatures. Generally neutral, they tend to assist dragons or humans as a sense of self righteousness and otherwise spend their time acquiring knowledge and personal treasures. Indeed, Zarius's own lair, deep in the warm bowels of the earth, is exquisitely decorated and full of rare and valuable artifacts from across the ages.

     But living as a dragon became more and more dangerous. As the middle ages came and went, dragons went from fact to story as many of them took to hiding. No longer did knights on valiant quests come for his assistance and, in his leisure, Zarius took to traveling the world and collecting. But, after so many years, he grew tired of this. Despite having a rather normal human form, he could blend in well with the human populace, but he could never stay in one place long. Immortal and unable to age, he was constantly on the move, following the flow of the globe. He traveled the silk road, visited Italy during the Renaissance, participated in the French Revolution. Valiant and ever-looking to provide a sense of justice, he would go anywhere there was action or cultural blossoming.

     Zarius attended many different schools during his long lifetime, picking up degrees in pretty much anything. While math came naturally to him, for he was wise as any gold dragon was, he had never thought to pursue any sort of career in it. After all, math was just a brain teaser and made it easier to count his large mass of treasures (unfortunately, like many dragons, Zarius is still rather greedy). But when presented with the offer from an old friend, he figured, why not? He'd been a professor before, after all. And at least here people wouldn't question the fact that he didn't age.

THE PRESENT

     In his classroom, Zarius tries to keep things light. Sadly, to him, most students dislike math and he tries to make it as interesting as he possibly can. If he has to tell a few jokes, or make it into a game, he will most certainly try to. However, he is strict. Pull something in his class, and he'd much rather publicly humiliate you then give you detention. To him, math is important, unlike many other subjects in school. He loathes the question, "when will I ever use this?" If you want to piss off a dragon, ask it; he dares you.

     With his students, Zarius has no problem walking the thin line between friend and mentor. Easy to talk to, he encourages his students who need the help to seek him out. Teaching one-on-one is easier for him, and he's good at adapting to a student's needs. However, he's not the sort of teacher that can be confided in. If it's academic, sure, he'll help you out. But if your boyfriend just broke up with you, please go and speak to the counselor.

     With his fellow staff, Zarius is friendly and easy to get along with. However, he has no long-lasting interest in friendship. After all, he's a wanderer and never really puts down roots in any one place (except his lair, of course). But he's social, even if he doesn't make a point to go and seek company. He enjoys his solitude, but he certainly isn't a hermit or homebody.
