Ignorance Is Bliss.

Try putting a spin on fantasy if your going to try and tug on Tolkein's old, crusty pair. Personally, I'd modernize the franchise and put an odd twist to it. Maybe make the main character the only human in a mechanized feudal world. Have robed monks fight with piston-powered pikes or have the main character cross the savannah on a caravan, trying to protect the inhabitants from fearsome lions. I once had aspirations of becoming a video game designer, but I dismissed it for writing. Either way, if you're going to even play your own game, you need to put a new spin to old twists and make it worth playing. Remember, your selling a product, and just because you like a particular genre doesn't mean everybody else will. Interesting storylines, whether they be quantum or linear (I.E. Beyond Good & Evil or Indigo Prophecy). or revolutionary game play that is as addicting as Prince of Persia or God of War. I wouldn't recommend setting your heart on dominating a gaming platform with the greatest game ever created, but keep your eyes on the idea of delivering a good gaming experience to your audience. |
