As long as everyone agrees to allowing undead and they are used just and fairly, they can be pretty cool. But if someone just decides to be the 'Scourge' and wipe everything out its annoying. |

I picked "Other", explanation time: Undead, can be very fun in an RP, and can also ruin it, it all depends on who is using them, how fair he is, and how retarded he may be, if you ARE going to use Undead, don't just invade the entire RP, killing everything in your path, because that's called a Silly Sausagemove, and we hate those, that's misuse of Undead. Good use of the Undead could be like having cursed people, war against other races that doesn't involve "LAWLOMFG I INVADE YOU DIE LAWL" but just a war, political, physical, mental, psychological, anything. I like to have some of my RP characters Undead, because it spices up things a little bit. Long story short: In the wrong hands, Undead = Bad, in the right hands, Undead = Good. |

All this undead rping talk is giving me a sudden urge to make 2 undead cities and they are at war in an ancient battle from the past when they were still alive. Or something like that, they still have their sanity, but they just keep being ressurected as a skeleton etc. |

Undead suck most of the times in RPs, because most people who play as them are like "LOLOLOL 500 ZOMBY FROM NOWHAR", and mass them until whatever target is dead...usually a whole city. |

Undead are fine as long as they're played up to what they should be. A lot of times from what I've seen in RPs, movies, books and that sort of thing people sort've splurge with things like this and think the name itself will carry the weight you need to make a good story. That's rarely the case. It's the same thing with things like dragons, elves, and things of that nature. We're becoming desensitized to what it truly means to have those archetypes because many people fail to understand that they need to put their own spin on things or they'll just end up trying to feed us more cookie-cutter crap. Be brave and cut against the grain. ;) Edited by Ozmodious, Jun 26 2008, 04:38 PM.

I played a pretty nice game with someone roleplaying the Undead as followers of "C'Thun" (Using the C'Thun hero, and surrounding it with a bunch of random runes). He was a blatant idiot who not only couldn't spell, was almost completely barren of creativity, had no idea how to butt out when needed, and was eventually booted for just being dumb. Yet, what he did still played out so perfectly. It completely changed the way I was roleplaying before, completely changed my character and everyone else as well. Someone ended up picking up where the idiot left off, and we actually finished the roleplay, something I've never really seen ever happen in a public game. |

I find Undead in a roleplay can sometimes add a sense of danger to it, if played well. However, almost always the undead are simply played out as the Scourge or the Forsaken, due to Silly Sausage Overdose. 'Tis a bad time to be a Undead RPer, eh? :P |

Undead are even neater when there is a reason behind thier existance, instead of the cliched "lol I R necro. I raies k?" And when they are something differant then the cliched skeleton's, or decaying corpse. |

... Eh! I'm divinely pwnage, and thus feel the liberty and need to stroll into an inactive topic. Hasn't been 14 days yet, anywai. Whenever I host a rp I usually ban demons right off the bat. I don't even allow half-demons. Why? They're not creative. Demons, see, are the epitome of all that is evil. They're badass, and no matter the player, they always feel that by having a goddamn demon they have a predisposition to do idiotic things. Such as walking right into a city and declaring world domination, standing at the gates and threatening the guards whilst standing roughly 150 ft tall and still not expecting your ass to be kicked, and appearing out of nowhere to possess/kick ass. Again, demons- they're not creative. I can't see why people have to focus on the evils of something so distant, so unrelatable. All demons are evil, but not all humans/orcs/whatehaveyous are evil. That's why it's so much better when you get evil humans, see? It's all about turning your back on the norm, demons never do that. Ugh. Demons have no limits, they're not interesting. But, uh, undead! Those can be just as bad as demons, or good as anything else in my opinion. With the right roleplayers, they could actually amount to something. Like, you know, some great undead invasion triggered by some crackpot in some old, ruined, city. I don't know, zombies can be alright once in awhile, when used right.
But, uh, not when they just walk out of nowhere with some lich leader and all of a sudden they just want to raid a village/empire/seemingly good establishment. I mean, you could at least implement some pretentious philosophy into that shit. They are dead, right? And, like wut Bloody said, the cliche should be avoided for once. Wragh. I'm gonna have to go for "undead ruin certain themes", kthxbai. |
