The Death Of Roleplay; Because I'm That Lame

Trust me. This isn't going to be pretty. This here? This is going to be like the 4th of July at the ER. A godawful mess.
Roleplaying came to my attention during a time where Warcraft was becoming boring, and I was doing a lot of writing. The allure of creating my own stories and worlds brought me in, since I've been doing this myself for years, and it was a way to share this with others. Fun. Exciting. Si. This month is my year-long anniversary. Go me. Im sure that you veterans, you people that have been here from the start, you're scoffing. Pfft. A year. I've been here since StarCraft. Beat that.
These veterans. These people that claim to have been here a long time. They're not better. I've met plenty where their whole roleplay encompasses thirty-something undead units and a Necromancer hellbent on world destruction.
This is why I snicker when people whine about the death of Roleplay. They speak as though it was some sort of beast with arrows protruding from it's hide, spilling blood as it crawls to be alone in it's final moments. These people, they look at the newcomers, the silly newbies who think it's a fun idea to be some sort of demi-god and be all powerful and knowing, they look at them with scorn, saying, This is what's killing roleplay.
But Gods above, didn't we all do that once? Weren't we all foolish at one time or another? Bumbling infants feeling our way around this foreign, delightful entity that unites us and makes forums?
I've come to a conclusion. An epiphany, if you will.
These scoffers. These arrogant jerks who think themselves oh so high and mighty, because they've been around a real long time. These folk, that think that they're way of doing things is oh so much better then yours, these people kill roleplay.
These newbies. Tender buds that could, one day, hold fruit, are trampled and spat on because of a couple of dicks who think because they don't know how to change to OOC that they're worthless pests worth little more then the gum on the soles of their shoes.
Okay. So there is justification. You want a decent roleplay. You don't want to have to teach this...newbie how to play. Because it's valuable time.
But look here. Here's how I learned how to Roleplay. I asked questions. And a couple of nice guys, with eyes rolling, I'm sure, taught me the basics.
Because of three guys who were nice enough to help me out, I now have a new hobby.

Sure, I might not be the one to talk. I've kicked my fair share of newbies. Boot, bam, wham, they're out. That was less then two weeks ago. And then, this guy came in. He asked, politely, if anyone would teach him.
So I did.
And now this little community has another player.

By now, I'm sure you're laughing. You're thinking, This guy's a moron. newbie-lover. He probably can't roleplay worth crap. What an idealist.
Maybe that's what I am. Maybe I'm just wasting time.
But, by Gods, if a newbie asks me how to play, I'm teaching him.
Even if it kills me.

Sadly, some people just don't try to improve. They're very content with being able to have an overpowered Illidan so they can kill a bunch of creeps.

But I have no problem with someone who tries to learn.

Mmm. . I agree with Anonymuzz.
I've tried to teach a fair share people, but some of them just don't WANT to learn.
The fact that they'll shun any advice you try to give them doesn't make them seem very friendly. =\

Amen, Brotha'.

For the record, experience sure as hell does matter. But if someone tends to talk like a lolwuter, then they are obviously not worth the time.

Ya, that's probably why I have no friends on the net.

Why would we ever think that? We definitely support teaching new people, providing they are willing to learn. You're not wasting time, you're just (sadly) one of the few people who want to raise up new people.

Bravo.

When I wrote this, I was fairly stoned on painkillers. I had gotten my wisdom teeth pulled. I've taught a couple of newbies, but I don't have the time to play Warcraft really. I'm fairly active in the forums because it doesn't take as much time.

A lot of people think that it's an utter waste of time for me to try to teach newbies that seem like they want to learn. I think I might just start holding sessions on how to make a decent, original idea rather then commands, since even literate people have amazing difficulty thinking of roleplays that are remotely original. A couple of weeks ago I played with some guys that seemed really good, but they turned out to be complete retards when it came to plots. I'm pretty sure one of them was the "uber-powered prisoner stuck in random jail", and another was a "uber-powered wizard/wanderer hybrid". I've seen cliche` ideas turned into fantastic roleplays, but theirs was just ungodly.
