Introduction
__________

Hello, and welcome to my quick & easy install guide. I am going to show all of you newbies out there how to install the game in a few easy steps. If there is anything wrong with the installer, please notify me immediately. Also, I added a multi client with the installer so you can trade between characters. So, please follow the steps below.

Okay, first click below and download the installer.

Mirror #1 - Click Here
Mirror #2 - Click here
Do note: Mirror #2 is faster, and thanks to <-DeM0n-> for the host.

Step 3 - Install

It will only take a few minutes to complete, and when it does, the final window will come up.

Step 4 - Play!

All you have to do now is click and play! If you did not make a shortcut, the game will be listed in the Start Menu.

Posted Image

Press Start on the loader to play the game, press Settings if you want to change your game options, and press Quit to leave the game.

Congratulations! Just login and have fun!

Windows Vista
____________

Ok, if you are running on windows vista, you might have some problems when playing the game. I have listed the fixes to them below.

Problem: I get a error saying "Cannot create online.exe or shpsobb.exe" when updating.
Fix: If you are on the admin account of your computer, exit the game, right click the game icon, then click "Run as Administrator". If you are not on the admin account of your computer, then your going to have to go on it.

Problem: When I try and update on the loader, it freezes.
Fix: If it continues to do that for awille, go to the Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst folder in C:Program Files, and open SHPsobb.exe.

Problem: Since I cannot use the loader, how do I change my game settings?
Fix: Go to the Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst folder in C:Program Files, and open Settings.exe.

Closing
__________

Well, thank you for using my installer! I wish you all best of thoughts, and I hope you enjoy the game. Also thank you to Break, for letting me include his multi-client, and for helping me answer some of the Vista problems.

Bye everyone! :3

Just because I'm such a nice guy, I'm hosting Bugz installer on my website

You can find the full download @ http://www.pioneer2.net/schthack/PSOBB_Setup.exe

Which is identical, bit for bit, to the download @
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RHT015ZQ

I've simply renamed Setup.exe to PSOBB_Setup.exe

To install PSO BB with all the patchs and all of the fixes all you have to do now is just use this one simple install and you click the desktop icon and play!
The vista fix is also included but it is listed in the start menu and not the Desktop so you will have to use that to run it or copy that one to your desktop, and use the one on your desktop to update the game.

(Although you still need WinRar to extract the installer because it is split so you need to downlaod all of the files to unrar it)
(I also used mediafire to host so no wait time or speedlimits)

PSOBBSetup.part1.rar (95.78 MB)
PSOBBSetup.part2.rar (95.78 MB)
PSOBBSetup.part3.rar (95.78 MB)
PSOBBSetup.part4.rar (95.78 MB)
PSOBBSetup.part5.rar (95.78 MB)
PSOBBSetup.part6.rar (21.22 MB)

For those wishing to install the game step-by-step (a.k.a. Boring Mode) read below:

1d. Manual Connection guide from Xeno/Break
Xeno sent me the last version of his guide. Thank him for the hard work he's put into this, and also thank him for keeping a backup ready. =3

Just because it deserves a second mention: MANY thanks to Xeno for providing the original guide, and allowing me to pull off some post necromancy.

Here it is - I'll try to modify it with the missing information, namely the last step for Vista users.
_____________

LAST UPDATED: April 22, 2008 by Leona
Added NeoTyrant's mirrors for the PSOBB client and the US patches

Welcome to an updated guide on how to connect PSOBB to Schthack's server with WINDOWS XP. The PSOBB section nears 1 year now and many things have changed since, so let's get this started.

Since SEGA's PSOBB server is down, Here's a list with alternative download locations with the original links. Many thanks to Break, ShinAsura and Daco for putting this up. (I'll refer to this as "Daco's site" in the guide).
I'll link the home page of their site here: http://psobbpatches.webs.com/

STEP 1:
Obviously to play you will need a PSOBB (US) client (496 Mb).
You may download it either from Daco's site: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4K8VIFBR
OR from NeoTyrant's mirror: http://www.ice2use.com/Setup.exe

Install the client in the default folder for easiness's sake.

Before you try to install anything else, you will need to patch with SEGA to get the lastest version of the client (this is where a lot of people screw up or forget about this step).

IMPORTANT NOTE:
SEGA has closed doors, so read further instructions below:

1. US client is closed in this server.

You will need the manual patch on Daco's site, which is located here: http://rapidshare.com/files/71709941/PsoPa...-3_patch_US.zip (16.1 Mb)
OR use the manual patch from NeoTyrant's site, which is the same file as Daco's: http://www.ice2use.com/PsoPatch_1-20-4_1-24-3_patch_US.zip

Extract the patch in the PSOBB default directory, which should be C:\Program Files\SEGA\PHANTASY STAR ONLINE Blue Burst

STEP 2:
You will need to create yourself a game account on Schthack server, free of charge! Make sure you read the Terms of Service before registering.
http://www.schtserv.com/bbregister.php

Choose an username and password shorter or equal to TEN (10) characters, otherwise with the JP-EN patch you might have issues logging in.

**NOTE: All accounts that are inactive for 150 days will get deleted to keep the database clean.

Make sure to note your username/password somewhere, because
http://z7.invisionfree.com/PSO_SERVER_HOME...?showtopic=9336
4.1 - you are resposible for your password and username security, We are not responsible if your account gets stolen.

STEP 3:

Now you will need to edit your hosts file. To do so, click on:
Start --> Run --> and enter this line

notepad.exe c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Then add this line at the end of the file:

*insert Server IP here* game01.us.segaonline.jp

You can get the server IP from Schthack's main page at http://www.schtserv.com

***NOTE: Note that this IP might change, so check on the site regularly if you can't connect for no apparent reason. You will be able to get this address from the main page.

At the end, your hosts file should look like this:

[/big]
Code:

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost
208.69.57.87 game01.us.segaonline.jp

or this:

127.0.0.1 localhost
#US Version
208.69.57.87game01.us.segaonline.jp
208.69.57.87 patch01.us.segaonline.jp
#JP Version
208.69.57.87 game01.psobb.segaonline.jp
208.69.57.87 patch01.psobb.segaonline.jp

- You cannot play from this point yet. You will need to JP Patch for connect properly. Keep reading as you are almost there!

STEP 4: NEW PSOBB PATCH

Schthack @ Apr 19 2007
06:12 PM
This is a modded Japanese client with an INCOMPLETE TRANSLATION for now.
A clean translation is being worked

link:

http://www.schtserv.com/patch/jp-en.rar
http://www.pioneer2.net/Schthack/001/jp-en.rar
[url=ftp://pso.servegame.org/jp-en.rar]ftp://pso.servegame.org/jp-en.rar[/URL]

This patch allow you to see the new japanese item on any US/JP client

FIX: You cannot have more than 10 chars for user/pass

more patch will be posted later for other language and for fix

Installation:

Just unzip(unrar) in the psobb folder

New mirror for the JP-EN patch (Daco's site): http://rapidshare.com/files/71741520/jp-en.rar

29/07/2007 Patch : Ep4-Offline mode fix <- to extract in the data folder (allows you to play Dangerous Deal with Black paper 2 without problems).

STEP 5:
After installing the JP-EN patch and the ep4 offline-mode fix.
Schthack released a new online.exe which is completly noob-proof since it updates PSO automatically with files that Schthack releases. The new loader also contains a news section on people can see what's new with the server, events and so.

Be sure to run it after you overwrite the old online.exe so that you get the updates right away.

This is the new online.exe that come with the JP patch, you can also get it here:

New Online1.rar

or here:

New Online2.rar

Overwrite the existing one of psobb, This Online.exe look for update so you will never have to worry about getting the latess patch manualy. It also give you the ability to install/uninstall optional update and to get the latess importent news directly.

Windows XP users are done, and may start playing from here. For Windows Vista users, keep reading.

STEP 6: (for Vista users only)

Consider this the last step, which must be completed if you're a Vista user.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/86c6va - v.1.24.15 JP

This file is necessary because using it to run the game will allow you to type properly on Vista, without changing your language and keyboard settings (and dealing with the ballooned font size as a result of said changes).

Download it. Put the .exe into the main PSOBB folder, and use it to run the game from then on, while using the replaced online.exe for updates and messing with options.

And, don't panic if an antivirus says the file is a trojan.

From here, you can check out Hariz's informative topics thread if you have any questions about the game. 98% of questions regarding the game are answered there, so it's a must-read.

Known bugs and fixes

CAN'T TYPE ISSUES
1) Uncheck the "Turn off Advanced text services for this program" box in the shortcut properties (Properties --> Compatibility tab) This only applies for Windows XP.

2) by Neo Chaotikal,Apr 20 2007, 11:55 AM:
Okay, I've found a way to solve my problem. For anyone who's been having trouble like hi-Res and I and doesn't know what to do, this should fix it:

Go to the Control Panel and pick Regional and Language Options.

On the Languages tab, hit the Details button on 'Text services and input languages'.

On the window that pops up, you'll see your current default keyboard layout in bold. In my case I see Portuguese (Portugal) > Keyboard > Portuguese.

What you need to do now is hit the Add button and set the input language to English (United States), but Keyboard layout (IME) to what your default is, in my case, Portuguese.

On the previous window, set the new config as the default using the drop-down menu.

You'll probably want to disable the Language Bar if it pops up now and it didn't before, just click on Preferences > Language Bar and untick the first option.

Hit OK on all the windows and try typing in PSOBB again. It'll most likely work and your keys won't be scrambled up as they would if you were to change the IME.

This is a supplement to: http://z7.invisionfree.com/PSO_SERVER_HOME...showtopic=14134

Go to Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Keyboards and Languages -> Change Keyboards -> (After Changing to JP/MS IME) Select Microsoft IME under Japanese, Japan and click on Properties
Do the following:

1. General Tab:
*Set Space and Numeric Pad to Always Half-Width

2. Mixed Japanese/English Tab:
*Allow Conversion in Alphanumeric input mode
*There will be an error message saying "[Editing:Don't use direct input mode] will be OFF. Continue?" Confirm this with "Yes"

3. General Tab (Again):
*Set Default Input Mode to Half-Width Alphanumeric
*Confirm these settings with "Apply"

Enjoy!

For me it seems like an error during installation such as a corrupted file. Last step is for typing problems related. But i might be wrong and you should do all steps if you're using VISTA.

Make sure the zip isnt corrupted (in other words re download it)
If you still get the error, delete the old online.exe and then try to move the new one there.

Go into options and check the box which says: Save ID/Password. Use the new.online.exe

I've added Official Japanese Language Support to my first post, at the end of it.

I seem to be losing my connection at the point where I'm supposed to choose my ship.

I haven't been able to actually play yet, but I can create a character, and then watch it lag out. Is there a problem or is my computer just incredibly slow?
