Backup not working...; Followed captian n's guide...

I was having problems with the pinned method of doing a backup, then i saw another person with problems in this post http://z7.invisionfree.com/PSO_SERVER_HOME...showtopic=33104 and captain n had posted a link with his guide.

I tried his method but after running i see this message
GCS v 1.0a
Not Connected
I ran ctr-gcs.exe like it says in the guide but it never seems to connect to the gamecube it just sits there with the above message. However it does generate a 0kb file with the backup name: "mem_card1.gci" but i presume it would do this before it connects...

Is there a specific cable i have to use like a crossover? or is a normal lan ok,
i've tried both anyway and used the steps on a number of different pc's in case it was just my laptop.

Any help with this would be great, i love the game its just i dont want to lose my character and all my hardwork from a fsod.

you got the gamecube to connect to teh computer thats the hardest part.
Your network setting should be ok since you got crt-gcs running on the gamecube

It will say not connected untill you type ctr-gcs -ir A mem_card1.gci
after that is should say conected
a mem card 59 makes a 512kb file and 251 makes a 2 meg file.

if its not connecting then there could be a firewall blocking it.

In the mem folder are the following 11 files and I just want to know if I need some more:

crc32.h
ctr-gcs.c
ctr-gcs.cfg
ctr-gcs.dol

ctr-gcs.txt
Memory Card back up Readme.txt

ctr-gcs.exe
psul.exe
Shortcut to psul.exe

311003211436ctr-gcs10a.zip
GCS Mem Card Saver v 1.0a.zip

Ill just ask because I have a a similar problem.

On the TV it says "not connected" and in the dos box "waiting to connect" that appears after I typed "psul.exe ctr-gcs.dol" --> "ctr-gcs.exe" --> "ctr-gcs -ib A mem_card1.gci".
In the mem folder a file shows up with 0 kb and it isnt increasing btw my firewalls are down. And at that point I dont know what to do.
How long does it take anyway to copy a whole memory card?

psul.exe ctr-gcs.dol" --> "ctr-gcs.exe" --> "ctr-gcs -ib A mem_card1.gci".

take out crt-gcs.exe so its like this

psul.exe ctr-gcs.dol" --> "ctr-gcs -ib A mem_card1.gci".

Thanks for your help but this does not work either.

Its the same as this "psul.exe ctr-gcs.dol" --> "ctr-gcs.exe" --> "ctr-gcs -ib A mem_card1.gci".

This file "mem_card1.gci" appeared in my mem folder but like I said bevor it had 0 kb and it isnt increasing. Should I wait a couple of hours? O_O

Hi guys thanks for the advice
My mem card is a mem card 256 block and is official.
The firewall on my computer is down, seems flaeli here has the same problem as me.
As far as i know my pso version is V 1.1

Any more ideas?
Or is there someone who could explain the pinned method with examples of the code you'll put into the dos prompt?

Thanks again

Thats strange it should work. It seems the Pc part crt-gcs.exe cant connect to the gamecube. Im not sure of the cause of that.

once you type r-gcs -ib A mem_card1.gci it should say connected on the screen.

I dont have a solution yet for you. its strange.

It really seems that we have the same problem. But I think my version is 1.0. Is it necessary to open a port? Maybe we have downloaded the wrong or just not enough files? Ill just downloaded "GCS Mem Card Saver v 1.0a.zip 166.39 KB".

Hmmm.......Ill should explain my course of action.

Cube

IP address: 192.168.1.32
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default router: 192.168.1.100 //my router's ip is 192.168.1.1 but Ill also tried this out
Primary DNS: 192.168.1.100

PC

192.168.1.100 // There Ill have 2 options: 2445 Connection ; LAN Connection
255.255.255.0

Ill put the "mem" folder in C.
Then Ill start the dos box and type cd.. as long as I get c:\> --> psul.exe ctr-gcs.dol ---> ctr-gcs -ib A mem_card1.gci . But you always know my result.

Ensure that you close all open folders whilst creating a backup/restoring otherwise it wont fully copy and you will just see the icon "x.gci" in the mem folder. Once all folders are close you will see activity in the DOS box and the file should be sent.

wait till the file gets sent to the gamecube and when its sent it will say on the tv screen
"crt-gcs v1.0a" NOt connected.

then type crt-gcs -ib A mem_card1.gci. as soon as you do that it should say connected on the gamecube. The pc screen should say receving file.

That is exactly what Ive done before. And I also closed every window but that doesnt help either.

But Ive taken a picture of my course of action. I don't know if this will help.
