It was not enough for me to live in a world where things like that could happen, without anyone even caring. That if they were going to go on living, they would not settle for living half dead, that they would fight for what they wanted, and be courageous, and be beautiful. That's what this is about, and it's for you, if that's what you want. Be creative, be alive, share every gift and passion you have to offer. We all need all we can get. |

One thing I never really understood through my entire life were these strange monologues. I always wanted to give them, because always had a certain appreciateion for when someone could talk for a few minutes and really say what he wanted to say. That's really one of the problems in society is that no one ever can say what they wanted to say, or if they did then no one really listens. Or you can give one of these, but it's to yourself in an empty house when your family is out and your alone. And you pretend that you're someone important and that someone is actually listening. But no one can really give these kind of things, except if your some famous poet or singer or director or playwright or something like that. Otherwise no one is going care. If your classmate asks "How are you?" you can't really tell them how you really feel, or what you really think. You have to say "Fine" or "I'm good" or "Not to good." I never thought of this until I listened to a tape from 1966, from WBAI's Radio UnNameable, which is one of those late night radio shows. It was hosted by Bob Fass who was a pretty interesting guy. Bob Dylan was his guest, and one of the callers asked: "Is there anything you wanted to say but no one has ever asked you." I think that is one of the most profound questions I've ever heard. Dylan didn't take the question seriously, but I did. I think everyone's answer to this question has to be yes. I think the biggest problem in society is that people write off people right when they meet them. If you don't look like them, if you're too fat or too tall or too small or too dumb or too ugly or too muscular or how you dress or how you talk or how you do anything, you're nothing to them. No one ever really cares about what people think. I think if everyone really tried to explain themselves, and people actually listened to people, then things would be different. People just act so boring. I think I'm too boring. This wall of text I wrote is boring. No one on here or anyway is going to read this and feel different about anything, but if I feel somewhat different after typing this. I think everyone should type what they think, or what they want to type. Just let your mind drift and allow your fingers to capture it. You don't have to press Post Reply, you can just type it, then exit. Don't bother reading over it, I'm not reading over this. I'm going to hit reply now. |

In conversations, do you really listen, or just wait for your turn to speak? |

The biggest constraint in society is opinion, we are constantly conscious of what other people might think of us based on how we act. This in effect can often dampen who we are, forcing us to conform to societal norm. This could perhaps be why people enjoy drinking so much; because you're usually out with your mates having a good time and after a few drinks you really couldn't care what anyone thinks of your actions, you do what you want. This ultimately leads to a good time being had by all, at that moment there is nothing restricting our very essence of self, all pseudo-masks shatter as everyone just cares about the moment and having fun, acting on impulse, being rash, climbing a tree and so on. I have noticed this because in my group I probably drink the least out of all of them, I can literally see the worries of the world vanish from there faces (except for Tim, who tends to be a drink dialer. But he comes up with the best sayings while drunk). And now I've forgotten where I'm going to go with this, but to sum up, drinking is good. In moderation. Like fun. Unless its a Friday night, then hit that goon sack. |
