Yeah I kinda walked right into that one. That wasn't actually my point, it was just a side comment. Since I really don't know too much about your views, nor do I care, I'm just going to say that human emotions are much more complicated than simply saying "for the greater good" (in response to brian) Edited by BURNOUTFREAK, Nov 14 2012, 10:35 AM.

human emotion is rather simplistic-- there is just cause and effect. Personally, my emotions tell me that if the human race is to exist and prosper, we must structure ourselves both politically and economically in a manner that as many as people as possible can be as happy as possible. At the same time I'm aware that the word 'possible' includes limitations. So, my question is, what is your ideal "way of the world"? Ideally? Well, Theoretical Communism where everyone works together and everyone knows everyone and everyone is happy and everyone has money forever and everything is beautiful and nothing ever hurts too bad. But even if it does, you have unlimited friends... you don't have to go through it alone. But that isn't an option. That's a human invention. You see, proc, 'human invention' is a term to stray from because it opens up the door to ancient philosophy and people saying irrelevant things like "NOTHING IS REAL WE CAN'T SEE REALITY SO LIKE EVERYTHING IS OPINION SO EVERYTHING IS TRUE OR A LIE AND NOTHING MATTERS BUT EVERYTHING DOES AT THE SAME TIME." That is impractical. We must view ideals through the scope of pragmatism-- a word coming from 'practice' and 'practical'. Pragmatism isn't a 'belief', really, it's an understanding of potential and the proper use of that potential. Should those who decide they they're done working just die without any attempts at prolonging the inevitable, and their would-be retirement fund sent back into circulation and/or to the government? In a perfect economic system... yes. They would die after they're of no use. That's what Stalin did. That's impractical, though. We aren't just cogs in a machine because cogs are selfless and humanity is selfish. The retired people should continue their selfishness, the retired people should have savings, should learn to invest, should keep working and learning to the best of their ability. Would the same concept apply to anyone fatally wounded as a victim of a crime, or, only if they're able to generate more money than they cost the country upon recovery? Fatally wounded? Then they'd be dead, regardless of medicine. I think these people should be taken care of, bro. They should have to pay a fraction, and the government should pay the rest. HOWEVER. To be able to help these people, we need to cut entitlements for all those who aren't in dire situations. What if our vitality wasn't due to modern medicine, and people simply started mimicking the Chinese diet (which would hypothetically reduce the demand/need for said expenses)? Our lifespan and over all health, you mean? Well, that would be good because then hospitals could drop their costs due to reduced demand, and people who REALLY needed it would be able to afford it. I think improving the country's diet is a BRILLIANT CONCEPT. But doubt it will happen. |

Side note, I hate it when people/my peers say Communism is bad. Communism as it has been applied in history is bad. Then again, perhaps I am speaking from a position of ignorance and it is untenable. |

I mean, it really depends what you're subscribing to. In theory, idealist or theoretical communism is just a giant community of sharing and caring. Marxist communism, doe, is violent proletariat revolution. Das pretty shit. We saw this happen in Russia. See, the hard part of communism is not everyone is willing to give up a part of themselves for the sake of anyone but themselves. So the only 'practical way' of creating that regime is by force. And that always ends poorly. If one day everyone in the world wakes up selfless, then it'll work. |
