Ok, I was driven by the dark-side (as in the myspace crowd) to actually go back and watch Southlander ... if you haven't seen it, and you have a multi-region DVD player (even if you don't - I can tell you how to play R1 dvd's :)), go get it off amazon ... it's going very cheap. (for any newcomers - this is a film where Beth plays the lead character's girlfriend) There are very few saving graces to this film, Beth and Laura Prepon (the ginger one in that 70's show) aside. Let us all be thankful that Ms. Orton went the singing route, and not acting, or indeed the food service industry (the anorak fans are gonna get that one) You know those films that have a couple of subplots going underneath, to keep you interested? this sure as hellfire doesn't! |

Went to the JobCentre today, and the Army were there going "Be the Best" ... now T-Mobile just told me I didn't have the qualifications to sell phones, Microsoft said I didn't have the qualifications to answer the phones, and the Army want to let me loose with a machine gun? | |

Well, just don't start calling her Ms Whiney! I agree that Beth Orton and Laura Prepon in the same movie is enough to make the worst movie bearable, but barely. When I watched it I fast-forwarded to the Beth parts, then went back to the beginning and watched the film listening to the director commentary, which was actually more interesting than the film itself. The movie had the feel low budget porno film, but without the sex. |

Seriously, I have almost been pissing myself all night over "cheer up a bit love, it's not all bad" ... two days on! And it was probably an off-hand comment. I haven't listened to the directors commentary yet (I have watched this movie 3 times, it's been out 3ish years - it says something), maybe I'll give that a go ... it's gonna be a rainy Sunday afternoon, and I can't face up to watching Leicester play football ... so who knows? (I like doing these asides, so i'll do another: did that 70's show satart again last week? I am up to date, but the official site is useless.) |

Actually, I always thought Bringing Up Baby was the worst movie ever, but then again I haven't seen this one. However, before you start the "worst movie ever" thread, remember that this exists: ![]()

WOOOOOOOA, get on the IMDB before you start throwing around wild accusations! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worst_films From Justin to Kelly was the most excruating drivel I have EVER seen ... Let's keep this on topic at least though, Southlander is so bad ... (as TJ says) the appearance of two very good looking women fails to save it .... Walrus, I urge you to go and buy it from Amazon marketplace, it's like 5 quid ... It's one of those funny, as in funny-scary, plots, where they chase after a magical keyboard ... it really is one step up from what a porn movie would be like (I mean, TJ seems to know about low budget pornos, so he's the expert) |

Hey! Southlander aint all bad. The appearance of Lawrence Hilton Jacobs (who played the part of Freddie Washington on Welcome Back Cotter) is worth the price alone. For those of you not in the know, he's the black guy who's all doped up and drunked up who at the time is in possession of the Mellotron, or whatever that keyboard is called. BTW, that instrument is played to perfection by Robert Fripp of King Crimson. Add to all that a lead character by the name of Ross Angeles and you've got one zany, camp movie. Almost as good as Serial Mom, which happens to be one of my favs.Buy the movie Walrus!

At least I didn't fast forward to the Robotosaurus parts...that would be a real cause for concern!
Don't forget that Rossie "Ross Angeles" Harris also played "Joey" in Airplane! which also made the film almost worthwhile.. |

Well, I liked it. I watched with the directors commentry also, and they had some interesting points about having an actor acting alongside a non-actor (Beth's snog scene), so you should definitely go to that part for interest sake. Oddly, without the 'blowjob' scene, the film could have passed as a '15'. The main fault with the film is like some 'independant' movies, in that they end up being way too long. But, hey there's some great footage of Beck, Beth, and Hank Williams 3 as well. A couple protopromos for tracks that don't have videos, for your Beth Video archive, I'd say. |

Anyone seen Southlander yet? Since I could not go to First Ave on sat. I stayed home and watched that. Shot on video, way wierd. But, it is worth the price to see the Bethonator in a bikini under water. Oh yeah, there are some good rehearsal scenes with her as well.Exc. Sweetest decline scene. |
