I saw that yesterday, he/she paid 202 quid for SPM which I had an eye on ... fair play to them.

The thing is though, it's not worth that much, even if there were people bidding against him/her
Went to the JobCentre today, and the Army were there going "Be the Best" ... now T-Mobile just told me I didn't have the qualifications to sell phones, Microsoft said I didn't have the qualifications to answer the phones, and the Army want to let me loose with a machine gun?

yeah, that's what I was trying to say ... £50 for IWINSTS is far too much. It's worth about 20 tops. While SPM isn't that good as an album, that is roughly the going rate these days. I have noticed it getting more and more expensive over the past 5 years though. The first couple that were coming up when I joined the board 5-6 years ago were around the 125 mark ... so holding on to them is a good idea.

That is a lot of money to spend on something that will never be opened. I mean, once you pop the seal on that CD it is no longer worth the money.
I used to be into collectibles, but they are basically useless. The value of things is all speculation...well, you all know about Ebay...it sucks.
I'd much rather spend my money on something I can use. And who knows...Beth may someday decide to re-release SPM, leaving all those collector copies without any value at all.
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me, than a frontal lobotomy.

i can see both sides of the coin really - i've been a record collector for years now (a generic affliction passed onto me by my dad) and have bought several copies of teh same record / cd on occassions (eg normal cd, casstette, vinyl, ltd cd, promo cd, sampler cd, promo cdr etc etc) only for most copies to sit untouched for months on end once the initial interest has gone down - i've also broufght 2 copies of exactly the same thing (very rarely) to keep one sealed and to open one - i know how sad this sounds to some people but ask a stamp collector to explain why a penny black is worth £?,??? or an alcoholic why it's worth risking elements of your life for that next drink (ok bad examples but you get the picture)

i've got almost every vinyl / cd / tape i've ever seen of beth's (a large element from ebay) and that makes those few left more and more appealing - the winnebago cassette and spm being 2 that spring to mind - dilema is to pay £250? for a sealed spm and keep it that way or but a cheaper £200? copy that's opened - or 2 copies - now i'm getting silly and forgetting what i was trying to say

oh well the nurse is back so my medication should help :(

Someone on another forum said that collecting used to be almost an art, and that it used to be a thrill to walk into a crappy second hand record store and find a mint copy of, for example, SPM, and get it for £10, cos the bloke doesn't know how rare it is, and how eBay has stolen that. At the end of the day, it has to a certain degree, but it's not really important how you acquire the record, it's the actual owning that's important.

I am quite a frequent eBayer, (my username is a bit sad and obvious :)), but has anyone noticed how hard it is to get a good deal these days? Often it works out much more expensive than in the shops.

I'm suprised you haven't bought the 2 track Conceived promo with the instrumental version yet then (you built up a reputation for the promo last time too

B) )

I'm not actually alcoholic! It was just a poor choice of Username
