So you looked up the translation? Actually when I enrolled on eBay, I had this book nearby which I had recently bought (a really fascinating book...it had been out of print for a decade or more, and had just been re-released back in 2000/01). I opened to the section starting with my first initial, and found that word...and it seemed like a nice concept! |

I did (start) Japanese GCSE, (dropped it for physics) ... Was curious if it was a manga name or something. Sounded Manga. |

Went to the JobCentre today, and the Army were there going "Be the Best" ... now T-Mobile just told me I didn't have the qualifications to sell phones, Microsoft said I didn't have the qualifications to answer the phones, and the Army want to let me loose with a machine gun? | |

Sounds like you guys had a real party last night. TJ, I think you landed a real nice keepsake there. There's no doubt in my mind that the auto is legit. (There are a ton of Beth signatures floating around out there.) You got it for a good price, too. Way to go dude!

My favourite is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohnosecond in hindsight, we probably missed it cos it didn't get listed on the UK eBay |

I like the painting just fine, and anyway I have a thing about rainbows, and double rainbows in particular. In my hallway I have a copy of the US spring tour poster that was actually on the wall at Webster Hall the night Beth played there (care of a kind friend who grabbed it for me after the show!) which features the painting, and it gives me great pleasure whenever I look at it! Someone should tell Beth however that the old varnish on that oil painting is horribly yellowed with age, and that a damn good clean by a professional restorer would reveal what the artist actually intended. Those who think the picture ugly might well change their minds if they could see it in its true colours. |

I have that exact same poster, Ali. I got it at the show in Madison. It was all folded up, so I pressed it under some folders and glued the thing to a piece of cardboard. It looks OK, but under scrutiny you can see the folds and flaws. Sigh... |

I don't think anyone is going to beat me, I have eight Beth posters adorning my walls. And the framed one is on the floor to make way for my dartboard
Got some Simpsons up there too. And 12 speakers. One day, I will grow up and be sensible ... One day ...

Don't do it! Growing up and sensibleness are both greatly overrated. |

Well, it just arrived in a huge box, and .....holy $#!% !!! <-----(Doing my Ian impersonation)Much bigger than I expected. It's 24"x24" (about 61x61 cm for you metric people). They didn't specify the dimensions in the listing, so I assumed it is was about the size of of an LP album cover, but instead it is about four times that size. Instead of sitting it on top of a book shelf I'll have to find some serious wall space to hang it! It is a thin fabric stretched over a wooden frame. It appears to be done with whatever photographic-type printing process they use to make those prints of paintings you find in a mall art & poster shop. It's inscribed: "With all love, Beth Orton, XXX." (Back atcha, babe! )Only problem now is the guilt....at only $10 I feel like a robbed a charity! :ph43r: Guess I'll have to make another donation sometime... |

Interesting sidelight and history about the artwork: The letter that came with it indicated it was donated by Virgin Megastores in Los Angeles. While ripping the box apart for my recycling bin, I peeled off the label to see that it was shipped last May from Virgin in L.A. to the Names Project in Atlanta. Under that label there was a another label from sometime earlier in the year from Astralwerks in N.Y. to Virgin in L.A. So, this poor album art has spent most of the year in the same box bouncing back and forth across the country, incurring shipping charges amounting to some multiple of what I eventually paid for it. Well at least now it's gone to a good home (or a home, anyway..) |

TJ, that little (big) signed piece of artwork has bounced around looking for you. Ya never know, being a one of a kind, it might present some real value some day. Good for you, fella! Peace, Rob |

I'm glad it has found a good home, and I'm sure it will get a prominent site, now just to see if one made it over here... |
