Wishing a Happy New Year to all my friends here on the forum. What are your individual plans?
We will be spending the night at home, and hopefully the weather will cooperate enough to allow some friends over.
The Bears game vs Green Bay was pushed from the noon spot to the 7:00 PM spot to accomodate the TV audience. Little did they know (or care) that in doing so they messed up a lot of people's New Year's celebrations. There are people here in Packerland who would literally drive off the earth to watch their team play. Likewise in Chicago. Luckily, we never go out on NYE. We leave that to the amateurs. Besides, it is supposed to be icy, snowy, and foggy...making it all the more dificult to dodge the cops and the snowmobiles.

Happy New Year everybody!

Peace :peace:

Happy New Year likewise, mes amis!

Not sure what I'll be doing later - the weather is appalling & likely to remain so tonight, but our little town mostly comes out to play at New Year's! There are something like twenty pubs, plus wine bars and restaurants - even though it's a tiny town - and we have a great street party centred on the market square come midnight, with fireworks, live music & wild dancing, which attracts people from miles around. In recent years it has become a rival to the famous Dartmouth street party, but my guess is that it won't be huge tonight on account of the weather.

Have fun everybody, be safe, but do all the things I (probably) won't be doing! (I'll leave that to your imagination!) :P

Sounds like you live in a swinging little town. My town rolls up the sidewalks at seven 'o clock!
Our town usually builds an ice castle every New Year, but the weather for the last two years has put the kibash on that.
I would visit more bars, but there is such a vendetta on drunken drivers it is not advisable.
Stay safe, and don't get all those pretty girls in trouble!

It's 3.20pm, i'm lying in bed, still utterly dying. It's pissing down and freezing cold, so I am staying tucked up. I am supposed to be out looking for a new car too

Putting the beers in the shed I think.
Went to the JobCentre today, and the Army were there going "Be the Best" ... now T-Mobile just told me I didn't have the qualifications to sell phones, Microsoft said I didn't have the qualifications to answer the phones, and the Army want to let me loose with a machine gun?

Get well soon, you poor thing!

I prescribe hot tomato soup, and concentrated vitamin C (for everything!)

Trust me, I'm a doctor (of bullshit!) :)

Ade, you mentioned eating lots of turkey on Christmas. Are you sure that bird wasn't contaminated? It sure sounds like a case of food poisoning to me.

Stay in bed, and try to eat something light. I know it sounds like an old wives tale, but chicken noodle soup cures what ails you.

Nah, not too much turkey.

I cleaned my wardrobes out on Christmas night to make some space for the new clothes and stuff, and there were some things in there I never touch, dusty as hell, and it got into my throat.

First came the sore throat, then came the cough, and being no saliva in my mouth, it burns like hell, and then came the sinustis. Really have to get sorted for Tuesday.

Any rodent droppings in there? Could be hantavirus, in which case it's been nice knowing you... (yikes) But seriously, get well Ade, we couldn't function without you! :urock:

May I be the first to post in 2007? Hi Ali, I see you lurking! :D

Are you guys trying to kill me off, or something? Thinking of unpleasant ways for me to die (yikes)

It's only a simple cough, with a few side-effects, and a massive lack of sleep, but it is doing my head in. It seems my friend's wife and daughters are down with it too, and box said he has the sniffles, so it's probably a cold outbreak.

Anyway

I hope whatever kind of 2006 you all had, it gets topped by 2007. And if the 30 regulars and the other members all have a better year, then all will be well with the world.

Delighted to report that it was a magic start to the new year in little old Totnes! This was the year when the sixteen year olds (and there are a huge number of them) finally wrested control of the market square party from us 'oldies', who were hardly anywhere to be seen! But I am also delighted to report that the very special intergenerational love vibe that is one of the main reasons I so adore this town was everywhere in evidence, and I didn't feel in the least bit old or out of place! If the last couple of hours is anything to go by, 2007 is going to be a classic!!!

As for mouse piss & droppings, I spent a large part of October and November breathing in nothing else, as I was (partially) clearing Dad's attic. I knew nothing of possible diseases, but it didn't feel good. However, I lived to tell the tale, so there is hope for us all!

Have a great year, everybody!
(I was serious about the vitamin C, btw. Anyone who is under the weather should dose up with 500mg or 1gm a day for several days. It will do you no harm, and is as good as a week of sunshine! Your body will thank you.)

Bunged up with Ibuprofen (this shit is the greatest invention ever ... the pain just is non-existent, now), cough syrup, a scarf, countless cups of tea, and 12 hours sleep on the sofa (7am-7pm!), and as much orange juice with lemonade (obviously, because of the sugar - can't drink too much) I can muster, I am tentatively ready for my first day at work!

And late again, but a happy new year to you all.

Ade I was afflicted by dodgy sinuses and heavy cold all weekend, but some sudafed max got me through and seemed to mean that i didn't have a hangover either on new year's eve or new year's day.

Certainly a busy weekend with a mate's wedding on the 30th, and obvioulsly much too much festive cheer than is good for you :drunk:
