OK. So, I was wondering how the rest of you do it. I am sitting here in Paris on vacation and the hotel has free internet. I always try to avoid the media in any form when on vacation, but, this time I find myself using the web almost daily. I have been using it for weather forcasts and directions etc. It actually has been very helpful and I am beginning to rethink my philosophy. It was indespensible today when my son wanted to find a certain record store he had looked up. Well, with a combination of mapquest and alot of metro rides as well as asking directions(my french sucks)we finally found it after it closed for the day. Tha was not so bad after, all cause in our crazed pinball like wondering we found a neighborhood where there were no visible tourists and had a blast. The cafes were all reasonably priced and packed with locals after work. The food was great and the price was right. Beats the hell out of the areas where the attractions are. The prices are always so high and the quality is marginal. Oh, it is hotter than hell in Paris this week but the ladies all look tres cool. |

Strangely enough, I go incognito. I spend far too much time in front of a computer for work. Holidays are a complete break. |

Went to the JobCentre today, and the Army were there going "Be the Best" ... now T-Mobile just told me I didn't have the qualifications to sell phones, Microsoft said I didn't have the qualifications to answer the phones, and the Army want to let me loose with a machine gun? | |

Same here. Life without email is not all that bad of a thing. |

Well, it has been a boon so far. The Paris airport is so damn big the gate status wont show when I check my flight. My time here is at an end and now we are getting ready to head back. My fear is we will spend so much time looking for the proper terminal that we will be cutting it close. I am not looking forward to going home yet. I love this city. Had mussels last night and so many tarts and sweets I feel like it is the holidays. Thanks to the internet we got directions to some record stores that were way off the tourist path and actually found local areas where the prices are so much better. We stayed away from most of the musee's this time as we will be in D.C. in a week and will be museumed out there. I did have an encounter in the Marais. I was ordering a falafel and turned around to see Greg Proops standing behind me waitng to order as well. We had a short talk about the falafels in the area and I was on my way. The wife chewed my ass for speaking to him. I didnt care. If you are a celebrity it is part of the life as far as I am concerned. I did not look for any Beth stuff but did get Kelly Jones new solo disc and a few Johnny Halliday discs. My son spent all his money on punk vinyl as the store had so many out of print discs. What the hell is wrong with americans to feel so superior without knowing what is in the world? The one thing I miss tho is a decent toilet. Well, off to get le petit djeuner then the airport. |

Sounds like you had a great trip, Scott. I did all my travelling when I was younger and had the money to do it. I won't get on a plane untill they quit treating people like criminals. My friend Mark has a son who lives in Paris and is married to a French girl...(ooh, la la). He said he could live there in a hearbeat. He said the place is fabulous. As for the bathrooms...those long toilets with the water shooting up in the air...they're for washing the giggy. Hope you didn't make a deposit instead.Shades of Tropic of Capricorn... |

Tell me about it. Once, I flew from Chicago to Phoenix...laid over an hour in Phoenix, six hours to Honolulu...another hour to Maui...didn't eat anything all day. My teeth felt like they had little sweaters on them. Got a dip in the pool and dinner late. Woke up after six hours of crazy sleep. Never again!!!
