Beam me up, Scotty. There is no form of intelligent life down here. Good luck in all of your endeavors, Sandad. Be sure to give me a call when you land that new job. Rob

Nice. The day I quit my current job is going to be the happiest day of my life. Either that or I'll just get hit by a bus on my way to work one day. I'm cool either way. |

Recommend job quit rather than bus hit!

But if I quit the job, then I have no money to pay rent with. Getting hit by a bus solves both problems. |

I don't approve of cruelty to buses - you might put a dent in it. There has to be a job out there that you would actually enjoy doing, which also pays the rent? Good luck, mate! |

Sorry Ali, all the good jobs are now gone, our children must now work the shittiest jobs available. When I first started working, my job was to shovel shit into a bucket. All the illegal aliens quit because they couldn't stand the smell. I liked it, because they left me alone and I could smoke pot. It wasn't so bad...I just got high and shovelled shit into a bucket. Aint life grand??????

Funny, my first job was designing database apps for the one of the biggest charities in the UK. My second job was working with a NASA project

Went to the JobCentre today, and the Army were there going "Be the Best" ... now T-Mobile just told me I didn't have the qualifications to sell phones, Microsoft said I didn't have the qualifications to answer the phones, and the Army want to let me loose with a machine gun? | |

My first job was pavement artist outside the National Gallery. That was a bit hard on the knees so I became a street seller for a revolutionary newspaper (International Times). That led to a brief appearance in the dock at now defunct Bow Street Magistrates Court! Then I went straight for a while, and worked for a book publisher, where I did all sorts ... designing bindings, proof-reading & copy editing, writing 'blurbs' for jackets, stand-in production manager (handling the progress of forty titles simultaneously, from manuscript to publication). But it didn't take me long to realize I wasn't best suited to taking orders, and I have been self-employed for nearly forty years now (busker, artist, writer, musician, astrologer, antiques & fine art dealer). It wouldn't suit everyone, but it has been perfect for me. I reckon I'm a very lucky man to have been able to do the things I most enjoy, and most of the time make a living at it, more or less! |

That seems like the key to anything. If you can enjoy it, it's worth it. But all too many times in my life I've been put to the task. Perhaps that is why I'm disabled. When others were against doing a certain job, I was always there to give it a try. |

Expensive French pastels ... highly biodegradable! I used to do silly suns with sad faces on them, and sign 'em Picasso ... very sixties! A funny thing happened this summer tho'. I was in London for Beth 'n' Bert at Somerset House, and it was a blisteringly hot day, and I found myself at Trafalgar Square. Kate from Philly who I was going to the gig with was delayed, so I had time on my hands. For a while I sat on the low wall outside the Nat Gal exactly where I used to sit to admire my handiwork on the paving stones nearly forty years ago, and wait for the coins to be tossed into my Dylan cap! Then I went inside and totally spaced out to the genius of the early Italian masters ... Duccio, Giotto, Cimabue, Mantegna, Botticelli! Back outside and sunbathing with squillions of lethargic tourists, when Kate finally arrived. We left Trafalgar Square in the direction of Strand for a pub supper before the gig, when suddenly, on that side of the Square we encountered a group of pavement artists, a cabal, who had just finished a giant copy of a famous Picasso in chalks ... but this is the eerie thing ... they had used, not the colours of the actual painting, but my favourite colours of forty years ago, the very ones I used to use! That blew my mind as much as the Italian masters beforehand, and Beth 'n' Bert afterwards! Life is surely sometimes strange. |

My first job was far less glamourous, packing weighing off and icing boxes of fish fillets, before moving onto doing the filleting myself. Three years and three similar jobs later I moved into hotel/bar work, where I learnt to mop up vomit (mind you the free sampling and quality controlof the gantry somewhat made up for this. |

The hardest job I ever did was loading and unloading ships on the Amsterdam docks. It mostly consisted of lifting & carrying 50 kilo sacks of Madagascan peanuts for hours on end (coming in). Just occasionally they were 100 kilo sacks, which were next to impossible to shift! The perk of that job (apart from being extremely well paid, and in cash too ... 60 quid a week when the average weekly wage in England was about 12 ... we're talking 1970 here!) was that at least once a day there would be a shipment (going out) of Heineken or Amstel beer. By some mysterious quirk of fate the second or third crate would inexplicably but inevitably slip off the ramp on its way to the hold, thereby smashing a bottle or two and rendering the entire crate unexportable! It was great when the beer shipment happened pm, not so good when it was the first cargo of the day, because then we'd all be pissed at six thirty in the morning with a full day's (dangerous) work ahead of us! It's a wonder no one died.
