IIRC, Whenever and the one after it were sort of fused into one track, and mislabelled. EIther that or Whenever was left out. Hence 10 tracks. Might have only been on sale in the US also.

Think TJ ound out something more definite about it, as I can only remember something like that happened.
Went to the JobCentre today, and the Army were there going "Be the Best" ... now T-Mobile just told me I didn't have the qualifications to sell phones, Microsoft said I didn't have the qualifications to answer the phones, and the Army want to let me loose with a machine gun?

Ade is correct that my original copy of TP has "Live as You Dream" and "Sugar Boy" fused onto a single track, clearly a manufacturing error. I remember this coming up on the original forum and a number of people in the U.S. had the same problem. I don't know how common it was, but I imagine the CD had multiple pressings over the years as she became more popular. I bought mine post-Central Reservation---probably sometime in 2000/2001--- and I recall it took quite a while before I finally found a copy in a physical store in those days. I think after "Stolen Car" became something of a minor radio hit, they had to do more pressings of TP, and probably had the late-nite shift at the CD factory do it! :dies:

I don't think it has ever been remastered previously. But Amazon (US) shows a couple other "import" re-releases, this one on March 19 2007, and this one, the double issue with CR, on Sept 5 2005 and Sept 18 2007. You might be remembering one of those.

I've just done some comparative listening to the new CD and the original, and I think there is a bit of a difference. There sounds like there is slightly better channel separation and a little more "depth" but not a huge difference.

At least the Live as You Dream and Sugar Boy tracks are separated, so I'm glad I never got around to buying a replacement copy of my original. I will only buy a future version of TP if it has a hologram Beth that comes out and sings to me!

There's only so much you they can do to make yet another version desirable. I have three versions of "Dark Side of the Moon" -- A '70s vinyl (mandatory that every college dorm room had a copy), then one of the first CD versions back when you had to go to special audiophile stores to buy CDs, and the 1993 twentieth anniversary CD. I didn't bother with the 30th anniversary edition, and I don't know why I would bother with a 40th anniversary edition, which according to my calculations is only four short years away! :wot:

The 40th anniversary edition will come out right about the time that Roger Waters will need to remodel his villa in the Virgin Islands.

Apparently she really is a goddess!
Quote:

Beth Orton, “Trailer Park” (Legacy). When Beth Orton dropped out of the sky, back in 1997, there really was no such thing as a folk/electronica fusion. “Trailer Park” changed that, simultaneously lending some badly needed sensuality and edge to the acoustic pop idiom, and lending music critics the oft-abused descriptive “folktronica.” Time grants us perspective, and this excellent Legacy edition of “Trailer Park” proves that Orton was not simply going for a gimmick here; she was in fact following the paths her compositions suggested in their stripped-down state, adding loops, cellos and various blips and bleeps like a folkie Bjork run amok. The music has aged incredibly well, mostly because Orton’s melodies— and the achingly sexy voice she uses to give those melodies flight—are more than durable. “Trailer Park” can still surprise after all this time. It might seem to be still water at a casual glance, but there are some strong and dangerous currents running underneath. ★★★ 1/2 ( Jeff Miers)

I still maintain that Bullet is the best song she's ever done (and I have done so for ages.) Forgot how nice Skimming Stones was though.

And I've just seen the video for Best Bit again.

It's a little 'louder' but i don't know if that's an improvement. It's the same thing with the new remaster of Pearl Jam's "Ten"...there's only so much you can do to improve an album that's only 10-15 years old and released in the CD age.

Some of these b-sides I'd never heard before though, so that is nice. Now where's my vinyl reissue?

Another TP-Malarkey-related interview. Nothing really new, but interesting nonetheless.
