I love that white and black dress though; she wore it for the whole first daybreaker tour, and she looked great. |

Went to the JobCentre today, and the Army were there going "Be the Best" ... now T-Mobile just told me I didn't have the qualifications to sell phones, Microsoft said I didn't have the qualifications to answer the phones, and the Army want to let me loose with a machine gun? | |

Tracey Emin is a sweetheart of a human being, totally honest, and a brilliant draughtswoman who fully deserves her place in the first rank of living British artists. You might think her face is not the prettiest, but it doesn't offend me in the least, and I can't imagine for a moment why anyone would dislike her, especially since she got a handle on her alcohol abuse years ago. |

Of course, that's what they said about Dubya.

I'm not suggesting Tracey would have made a better Prez than that other old soak! On the other hand I can't imagine that anyone would have been worse. |

Hi Ali, it doesn't surprise me that you would be the one to find her attractive. She's a dog, and just wants to get her ugly mug on film. |

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one, Rob. I don't find her particularly attractive, but I do like her as a human being. She is also a true artist (and a fine writer by the way) and not at all a publicity seeker. The reason she gets attention is because her work deserves it (speaking as a fellow artist) which is why the Tate Gallery has given her a room of her own - a supreme accolade granted to no other living artist. (Alastair means 'defender', so it is my nature to leap to the defence of anyone I feel is being unjustly treated! ) |

Whatever trips your trigger...but if an unmade bed with condoms and cigarette butts on the floor constitutes art, then I am Pablo Fucking Picasso.

Maybe you are Pablo Fucking Picasso?!! I do believe that every man is an artist (or at least a potential artist, if sufficiently motivated and allowed to be) but of course there is good art and bad art, and all the room in the world for disagreements about what is good and what is bad. I, personally, don't think Tracey's bed is in any sense her most important or significant work, but in my book it most definitely is art, and good as well. When it comes to the matter of art, where questions of personal taste and judgment prevail, one can only seek to reach a consensus at a particular moment in time, and the present day consensus in the art world on Tracey is that she is one of the greats. And I am in complete agreement with that appraisal. However it will take the passage of time to confirm or demolish her (or any other artist's) reputation. In the case of Damien Hirst, for instance, another Brit who is now very highly regarded, I personally think he is overrated and that his work will not age well, but again only time will tell! |

Oh dear! More controversy, I'm afraid! Although I like some Seurat very much I have always hated that particular painting, so most of the parodies & pastiches leave me cold. Exceptions: I love the sculptural version on the banks of the Mississippi, and the 'doodle' drawing by Howard Hallis ... oh, and I haven't watched any of the vids yet ... It is probably a bad idea to get me onto the subject of art - because it is what my whole life has been about - and I have so many passionate likes and dislikes, and many heterodox opinions! I believe, however, Rob, that we both share a passion for Picasso. He will always stand the test of time, and was massively influential for decades. However, his influence today is far less than, say, that of another great 20th century master, Marcel Duchamp, whose work (imho) just grows & grows in stature. It is his work that I would recommend studying (and in real life, not in reproductions) for anyone who is perplexed by cutting edge contemporary art (like Tracey). |

I will agree with you, Picasso is the proverbial king of art. I used to date a girl back in the 70's, before I got married...she was a student of art and attended the Art Institute in Chicago. At the time, I was green to art, but she explained cubism to me, and showed me just what Picasso intended to do in each one of his projects. Her parents were both educators, and they had an original Picasso displayed on their wall at home. But don't tell me about Tracy Emin. Her shit literally stinks! God dammit. |

I will concede that Tracey is smarter than I am. Yesterday I left my bed unmade, and not one person came by and paid money to stare at it! |

Let alone sell it to the Saatchi brothers for 150 grand! My bed is probably worth 300 quid, which is exactly what my parents paid for it. |

Okay, since I feel responsible for getting the thread way off topic, here is another photographer with a nice picture (scroll down), which looks to be from the same session as Rob's avatar. His live performances page has one of Amy Winehouse, just for you Ali! |
