Why do they need two LPs for an average length album? Do they space the grooves further apart for audiophile purposes, or does it have extra tracks, or...???

Yikes....a bit out of my price range, but would be awesome to have. Maybe if they sell out the Trailer Park reissue they'll do an affordable CR one.

As for the 2-LP thing....unfortunately a LOT of albums in the CD age tend to fall in this area where they're JUST too long for a single LP without compromising sound quality. CR runs about 58 minutes (including the remix). What I WISH they'd do is do 3-sided releases, balancing sound quality with convenience. Jenny Lewis' "Acid Tongue" is like that. I have "Morning Glory" on vinyl and it's really only about 12 minutes a side, even with the bonus track....kind of silly. But since the target audience of these reissues is audiophiles who listen on high-end equipment, they err on the side of sound quality versus practicality. There's a few LP's I've skipped over for this reason, because I know i'd be too lazy to play an album with two songs on a side (the new Doves album was like this).

There ARE LP's that push this limit...I found a copy of the Manics' Know Your Enemy on vinyl (here in Nashville, no less, for $9) and the whole 65 minutes is squeezed on there...it's okay, but won't win any audiophile awards. (it does look really cool tho :))
