I know the album isn't due out for a bit, but would it be okay to post our thoughts? I mean, she is already flogging it at her shows... |

You have my permission, FWIW! As it happens, I'm currently listening to the album streamed on NPR's First Listen: http://www.npr.org/2012/09/23/161272941/first-listen-beth-orton-sugaring-season Edited by TJ, Sep 26 2012, 06:15 PM.

Magpie and Candles good, Dawn Chorus is pretty much Paris Train 10 years on and therre is one that sounds like the opening to a circus (which I am going to tomorrow, believe it or not) |

Went to the JobCentre today, and the Army were there going "Be the Best" ... now T-Mobile just told me I didn't have the qualifications to sell phones, Microsoft said I didn't have the qualifications to answer the phones, and the Army want to let me loose with a machine gun? | |

I will write a more in depth review at some point. Personally I think Sugaring Season is second only to Central Reservation. I love it. |

Is that "See through Blue"? My first thought is that it sounded like some incidental music on the soundtrack of a '60s Italian film, maybe Fellini or someone like that. I have only listened to it in the background today, not closely. I can't really say what I was expecting (since I didn't know what to expect) but my first reaction is to be pleasantly surprised. The production quality is much better than Comfort of Strangers (a low bar to clear, to be sure...) and the arrangements and instrumentation are great. I found myself thinking on a couple numbers that "her voice is aging well." Maybe she's been working on that as well as her guitar picking, or maybe its just a natural occurrence. |

I absolutely adore it, from start to finish! There are a bunch of truly great songs there, as good as anything she has written before, with totally original melodies & cadences, and absorbing lyrics. The arrangements are scintillating, the accompanying musicians superb, and, maybe best of all (like the great albums of the 1960s) each track sounds almost as if recorded in one take or maybe two, resulting in the most fabulous fresh live sound! And her voice is as wonderful, if not better than ever. ![]() Who ever said that happiness does not produce great art? They were of course quite wrong. My one criticism? It's not long enough! But there is a solution to that. I go right back to the start & play it all over again, just like all the others when they first came out! Can't imagine I'll want to listen to anything else for weeks! |

Review from All Music Guide: http://www.allmusic.com/album/sugaring-season-mw0002410239 Interesting to look at the "Credits" tab too. I noticed that Laura Veirs is credited with a background vocal, so Ade should be happier with this album than he lets on!
